Holy Name of Mary Mission Statement

FROM THE PASTOR SEPTEMBER 10, 2017 3

BE GRATEFUL FOR WHO THEY ARE AND ARE BECOMING. TELL THEM YOU ARE.

HONOR THE BLESSED DIFFERENCES IN THEM OF NOT BEING WHO YOU EXPECTED.

PUBLICLY PROCLAIM THE GREATNESS OF YOUR CHILD.

PRIVATELY REVEAL THE BROKENNESS OF YOURSELF SO THEY KNOW IT’S OKAY TO FAIL.

NURTURE THEIR SPIRIT WITH MODELING THE ROLE OF FAITH IN THEIR LIVES.

ACKNOWLEDGE THE FACT THAT YOUR CHILDREN CAN TEACH YOU.

ADMIT YOU CLEARLY DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND ASK FOR HELP.

MAKE A DELIBERATE CHOICE TO LIVE EACH DAY OUT OF THE REALITY THAT YOU DO LOVE YOUR CHILD.

NOURISH YOU HEART AND MIND TO BE WHO YOUR CHILD NEEDS YOU TO BE.

HEAR GOD CALL YOU HIS BELOVED SON AND DAUGHTER. BELIEVE IT. LIVE OUT OF THAT REALITY. MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN HEARS FROM YOU THE SAME REALITY SO THEY CAN COME TO BELIEVE IT IN GOOD TIMES AND BAD.

YOU ARE WHERE YOU ARE, DOING WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED TO DO WITH THE PEOPLE YOU ARE WITH. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. GOD AND OUR COMMUNITY WALK WITH YOU INTO THE UNKNOWN.

REMEMBER THE NAME YOU GAVE YOUR CHILD AND CALL THEM BY IT.

MAY THE INTENSITY WITH WHICH WE LOOK AT SCREENS BE CHANNELED INTO THE WAY WE LOOK AT OUR CHILDREN. MAY THE WOUNDED-NESS OF OUR OWN HEARTS CALL US TO USE THE SALVE OF UNDERSTANDING WHEN OUR CHILDREN REVEAL THEIR BROKENNESS. MAY THE HOPE OF A GOD THAT HAS BEEN WITH US, IS WITH US AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN WITH US ENABLING US TO GET UP EACH DAY RENEWED TO TAKE THE NEXT STEP INTO THE HEART OF YOUR CHILD.

GUIDELINES FOR PARENTING BY FR. RICH DANYLUK

REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE.

HOW DO YOU GIVE FOCUSED LOVING ATTENTION TO YOUR CHILD?

PLUG INTO THEIR HEARTS.

SCAN THEIR MINDS TO KNOW THEM EACH DAY.

TOUCH THEM TENDERLY OFTEN.

CREATE AN ATMOSPHERE WHERE AT HOME IS WHERE THEY FEEL THEY BELONG.

BECOME WHO THEY NEED.

YESTERDAY IS NOT TODAY. THEY AND YOU ARE BOTH MORE FOR EACH OTHER.

BE AWARE OF THE VALUES THEY ARE CATCHING FROM YOU BY WHAT THEY SEE.

SLOW DOWN AND SLOW THEM DOWN TO SEE EACH OTHER’S BEAUTY.

ASK FOR FORGIVENESS AND FREELY, FULLY GRANT THEM YOURS.

HAVE EXPECTATIONS THAT ARE GROUNDED IN LOVING ACCEPTANCE OF WHO THEY ARE.

LET THEM KNOW YOU BELIEVE IN THEM.

WATCH YOUR TONE OF VOICE AT ALL TIMES IN SPEAKING WITH THEM AND ABOUT THEM.

FEEL THEIR FEELINGS.

Hurricane Harvey $21,931

Amid the immense devastation left behind in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of Galveston-Houston as-sured the people that God is with them in their suffering. “When we survey the loss and devastation, it is natural to wonder how such calamity fits into God’s plan. The problem of suffering is a mystery that is always with us,” Cardinal DiNardo said in a Sept. 2 opinion piece published in the Houston Chronicle. “However, our Christian faith reminds us that the Lord is never distant from us but is intimately close,” he continued. Hurricane Harvey tore through the Gulf Coast of Texas late last month, devastat-ing thousands of homes with catastrophic flooding and winds. At least 60 people were killed and more than 30,000 displaced, with billions of dollars reported in property damage. Cardinal DiNardo offered words of comfort to the devastated communities in Texas, saying that God “hears the prayers of His faithful.” The Texas cardinal quoted Psalm 69:1-3, which says, “Save me, God, for the wa-ters have reached my neck. I have sunk into the mire of the deep, where there is no foothold.” “The cry of the psalmist speaks to the danger and distress of recent days along the Texas coast, which have tested the faith of all of God’s children,” Cardinal DiNardo said. “When it seems that we are on the verge of perishing, we must wake up the Lord in our united prayers for personal need and for all of our brothers and sisters who are suffering.” While many communities are overwhelmed with the storm’s aftermath, the state has also seen an outpouring of rescue efforts, charitable donations and humanitar-ian aid. “In the midst of our darkest hour along the Gulf Coast, the people of Tex-as have shown humanity’s best face as we step up to the challenge before us,” Cardinal DiNardo said. “This already can be verified by the overwhelming re-sponse of help and charity from the human family as people of every race, class, religion and way of life have united in assistance for one another.” Although many families and individuals face a long road ahead, the cardinal voiced confidence that God’s providence will ultimately bring about good, despite the suffering and loss that was caused by the storm. “With the grace of our God, we will run the race before us with energy and joy,” Cardinal DiNardo said, and “we will win.”

SPECIAL SECOND COLLECTION FOR VICTIMS IN TEXAS Last weekend we took up a special collection to aid the victims of Hurricane Harvey, your generous donations totaled $21,931 we will quickly send these funds to Sacred Heart Parish in Rockport, Texas. This parish and area was heavily damaged in the storm and flooding that followed. We have been receiving additional donations all week; your donations are still needed and will be appreciated by those benefitting from your continued generosity. Our ongoing plan is to take up a special collection when there is a disaster that needs our support. We will continue to provide special envelopes for this type of event, but remember that you can bring your donations in any envelope marked with your intentions. This goes for other causes that you wish to send to the parish for a special need or cause – just mark your envelopes accordingly. 100% of these donations goes directly as you instruct us - no portion is kept in the parish or Archdiocese. There is also an Online Giving option for Hurricane Harvey relief, simply go the parish website at WWW.hnmparish.org and click on the Online Giving button.

ATTENTION MILITARY FAMILES ...WE NEED YOUR STORY! Each year at our annual Veterans Day Mass & Celebration, we honor the service of all our veterans. We also try to remember the service of a specific group. This year we would like to pay tribute to the families of those who served. If you are a family member of a veteran or someone currently serving and would like to share your story, please contact Joe Martinez at 909-418-4386 or [email protected].

DO YOU WORK IN THE HEALTH CARE AND WELLNESS FIELD? If so, then we’re going to need your brains, hearts, and hands soon. We are in the beginning stages of starting a “health ministry” and we’re looking for you if you have this expertise. At this time, we need input from you about what you think our community needs from a ministry like this. You’re the experts and we’re hoping you’ll share your gifts! Feel free to give me a call or send me an email if you have any ideas or thoughts about what our parish could do with a ministry devoted to health care needs! Thanks for all you do in service to those who need you, each and every day! Lani – 909.599.1243, ext. 111

SPOTLIGHT ON ST. VINCENT DE PAUL AT HMN

Following is another example of how the support of Holy Name of Mary Parish is changing lives for the better in our community through our St. Vincent De Paul outreach. Some time ago, we interviewed a young woman who had returned from a stay in Arizona and was destitute. She had few clothes, no food, no money, no place to stay, but did have two job interviews scheduled for the next day. Thanks to parishioner contributions, we were able to provide her with some acceptable business attire, food, toiletries and a motel for the night to clean up and prepare for the interviews. We encountered her six weeks later as a new parishioner at Mass. She had landed a job, found a place to stay and had a smile on her face. The change was so pronounced, we almost didn't recognize her. This type of assistance occurs many times throughout our volunteer work week. For more information about how you may become more involved in this worthwhile work, please call the parish office, extension 138 and a volunteer will contact you.

Hello Holy Name of Mary, My name is Leanne and I was a visitor at your parish on Saturday's 5:00 mass. I worked for 20 years at the Diocese of Orange and recently left to care for my mother suffering from Dementia. It the hardest vocation of my life, but the biggest blessing. On Saturday, I was at a baby shower with my mom on Walnut and when the shower ended, I thought let's head over to Holy Name for Mass. I've been to your parish before because my Uncle Gino Barbieri and Aunt Penny are parishioners. I have to be extremely honest, I LOVE THIS PARISH!!! It's like a little slice of heaven on Earth. The welcoming greeters, the amazing music, the participation of parishioners, the incredible front page of the bulletin to the homily was a like a sparkling diamond on the throne of Our Savior. I've been at a lot of parishes in the many years of working for the church and" WOW!" I'm truly impressed with HN and pray that one day ALL Catholic churches will become so warm, wonderful and truly the house our Lord. Thanks you for the spiritual recharge of my battery. Signed, A Reformed Jew. (Best homily one liner EVER!)

RECUERDA QUIÉN ERES.

¿CÓMO LE DAS ATENCIÓN ENFOCADA Y AMOROSA A TU HIJO?

CONEC-TATE A SUS CORA-ZONES.

REBUSCA EN SUS MENTES PARA CONOCERLOS MEJOR CADA DÍA.

TOCALOS CARIÑOSAMENTE CON FRECUENCIA.

CREA EN EL HOGAR UN AMBIENTE DONDE SE SIENTAN QUE ELLOS PERTENECEN.

CONVIERTETE EN QUIÉN ELLOS NECESITAN.

AYER NO ES HOY. ELLOS Y TU SON UN TANTO MÁS EL UNO DEL OTRO.

SEAN CONSCIENTES QUE LOS VALORES QUE ESTÁN APRENDIENDO DE USTEDES SON AQUELLOS QUE ELLOS VEN.

VAYAN MAS DESPACIO Y AMI-NOREN LA VELOCIDAD PARA PODER VER LA BELLEZA DE CADA UNO.

PIDE PERDÓN LIBREMENTE, Y TOTALMENTE CONCEDELES EL TUYO.

TENGA EXPECTATIVAS QUE SE BASEN EN LA ACEPTACIÓN AM-OROSA DE LO QUE SON.

HÁGALES SABER QUE USTED CREE EN ELLOS.

CUIDE SU TONO DE VOZ EN TO-DO MOMENTO AL HABLAR CON ELLOS Y SOBRE ELLOS.

SIENTE SUS SENTIMIENTOS.

ESTÉ AGRADECIDO POR LO QUE SON Y EN LO QUE SE ESTÁN CONVIRTIENDO. HAGALES SA-BER QUE LO ESTA.

HONRE LAS DIFERENCIAS BENDI-TAS EN ELLOS DE NO SER LO QUE ESPERÁBAN.

PROCLAME PÚBLICAMENTE LA GRANDEZA DE SU HIJO.

REVELE EN PRIVADO, LAS FRUS-TACIONES DE SÍ MISMO, PARA QUE SEPAN QUE SE PUEDE FALLAR.

NUTRIR SU ESPÍRITU MODELAN-DO EL PAPEL DE LA FE EN SUS VIDAS.

RECONOZCA EL HECHO DE QUE SUS HIJOS LE PUEDEN ENSE-ÑAR.

ADMITE CLARAMENTE QUE NO SABES LO QUE ESTÁ HACIEN-DO Y PIDE AYUDA.

HAZ UNA ELECCIÓN DELIBERADA DE VIVIR CADA DIA, LA REALI-DAD QUE AMAS A TU HIJO.

NUTRE TU CORAZÓN Y MENTE PARA SER LO QUE TU HIJO NECESITA QUE SEAS..

ESCUCH: DIOS TE HA LLAMAMOS SU HIJO E HIJA AMADA. CREELO. VIVE ESTA REALIDAD. Y ASEGÚRESE QUE SUS HIJOS OYEN DE USTED LA MISMA REALIDAD PARA QUE PUEDAN LLEGAR A CREER EN TIEMPOS BUENOS Y MALOS.

TU ESTAS DONDE ESTAS, HACI-ENDO LO QUE HAN SIDO LLAMADOS A HACER CON LA GENTE QUE ESTÁS. TU NO ESTÁS SOLO. DIOS Y NUESTRA COMUNIDAD ESTAN CAMINAN-DO CONTIGO AUN EN LO DESCONOCIDO.

RECUERDE EL NOMBRE QUE ASIGNÓ SU HIJO Y LLAMELO POR NOMBRE.

QUE LA INTENSIDAD CON QUE MIRAMOS LAS PANTALLAS PUEDAN CANALIZAR NUESTRA FORMA DE VER A NUESTROS HI-JOS. QUE LAS HERIDAS DE NUES-TROS PROPIOS CORAZONES SEAN LAS LLAMADAS COMO SALIDA DE ENTENDIMIENTO CUANDO NUES-TROS HIJOS NOS REVELEN SUS PROPIAS CAIDAS.

QUE LA ESPERANZA DE UN DIOS QUE HA ESTADO CON NOSOTROS, ESTA CON NOSOTROS Y HA ES-TADO SIEMPRE CON NOSOTROS NOS PERMITA LEVANTARNOS CA-DA DÍA RENOVADOS PARA TOMAR EL SIGUIENTE PASO EN EL CORA-ZÓN DE TU HIJO.

DID YOU KNOW? SAFETY PRIORITIES There are different safety priorities for children of different ages. The “My High 5” awareness campaign by Safe Kids Worldwide makes it easy to identify the safety actions that make the most sense for you and your family. Visit www.safekids.org/my-high-5 for tips on creating safety priorities for children and youth from newborn to 18 years old. YOU ARE INVITED to join The Human & the Holy (H&H) spiritual formation community Sun-day, SEPT. 17. H&H is an ecumenical community that comes together once a month to explore the deeper meanings and implications of Jesus’ invitation to abundant life and to encourage one another to live lives of contemplative awareness and compassionate action. Gatherings include simple ritual, silence for prayer and reflection, reverent dia-logue, a spiritual practice, and thoughtful presentations.
