BeethovenWhen Beethoven passed away, he was buried in a churchyard. A couple days later, the town drunk was walking through the cemetery and heard some strange noise coming from the area where Beethoven was buried. Terrified, the drunk ran and got the priest to come and listen to it. The priest bent close to the grave and heard some faint, unrecognizable music coming from the grave. Frightened, the priest ran and got the town magistrate.
When the magistrate arrived, he bent his ear to the grave, listened for a moment, and said, "Ah, yes, that's Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, being played backwards."
He listened a while longer, and said, "ere's the Eighth Symphony, and it's backwards, too. Most puzzling." So the magistrate kept listening; "ere's the Seventh... the Sixth... the Fifth..."
Suddenly the realization of what was happening dawned on the magistrate; he stood up and announced to the crowd that had gathered in the cemetery, "My fellow citizens, there's nothing to worry about. It's just Beethoven decomposing."

A man sick of the outside world joins a temple in Tibet.? One of the stipulations upon entry to this holy order was that he was only permitted to say two words every 5 years. The first 5 years he eats rice, he sleeps on a wooden bed & only has one blanket with holes in it. He tends to the fields & looks after livestock all day. After 5 years the head monk comes to him & says he can use his 2 words to which he replies "more blankets" Now the man is warm at night on his wooden bed with all his blankets but still only eats rice & tends to the fields & livestock everyday.
Another 5 years passes & the head monk comes to him again & says he can use his 2 words.
He replies "more food" He now sleeps on his wooden bed with all his blankets & eats gourmet food every day but still has to attend to his fields & livestock.
Another 5 years passes & the head monk comes again to him & says "You may use 2 words".
The man replies, "I'm leaving". "good" said the head monk, "all you've done is complain since you got here '

Barley to the summit: (This section of the walk is so clearly signed almost making description superfluous!) From the car park pass the toilet block and information centre into a small riverside park. After crossing the stream this leads into the village centre close by the Pendle Inn.
Continue along the main street until you reach a footpath sign on the left almost opposite a chapel. Turn left onto a riverside path.
Keep ahead across meadows to reach a footbridge.
After crossing it turn left onto a farm drive.
Pass the lovely garden of Ing End and the whitewashed house and then turn right through a metal kissing gate.
On a narrow enclosed path make your way up to Ing Head.
On reaching its yard turn right and then left to follow a wall up a slight rise.
The path then dips down to ford a small brook.
From this point the way is unrelentingly up. The path will take you across two large pastures to a gate to the right of Pendle House, a large farmhouse.
Directions
The way then turns behind it crossing to a wall. From this point the way is steep
After an initial section alongside a wall, the path breaks to the right angling its way across the flank of the hill. There are three consolations as you struggle for breath; the path is neatly stepped, though sharp this way is relatively short and the views are superb. After 10 (15, 20) minutes a wall is reached. Here turn back on yourself to traverse the whaleback summit to reach the trig point 557m above sea level. (1827 feet in old money!)
Summit to car park. Continue along the ridge. At a large cairn a choice of routes opens up. Either bear left and follow a rocky track down to the wall where you started the sharp upward climb, or bear right to follow a series of smaller cairns into Ogden Clough. This second option offers a more satisfying round. Underfoot the
ground becomes more peaty as you drop towards Ogden Cl
After a kilometre of gentle descent, the path will cross a stream and then take you sharply down hill to the valley bottom.
From here turn left re-crossing the stream. On an improving path enter pasture by a kissing gate.
As you descend pass first Upper Ogden Reservoir and then Lower Ogden Reservoir to enter the village almost opposite the car park.
to Barley on the P70/P71 Pendle Witch Hopper service route between Clitheroe and Nelson. [See www.transportforlancashire.com for further details]
and an information centre on this site. From the M65 junction 13 take the A682 through Barrowford towards Gisburn. By the White Bear public house turn left into Pasture Lane to the village of Roughlee. At Roughlee turn left then right at the crossroads signed for Barley.

Glass EyeA man who lived in a block of apartments thought it was raining and put his hand out the window to check.
As he did so a glass eye fell into his hand.
He looked up to see where it came from in time to see a young woman looking down.
"Is this yours?" he asked.
She said, "Yes, could you bring it up?" and the man agreed.
On arrival she was profuse in her thanks and offered the man a drink.
As she was very attractive he agreed.
Shortly afterwards she said, "I'm about to have dinner. ere's plenty, would you like to join me?"
He readily accepted her offer and both enjoyed a lovely meal. As the evening was drawing to a close the lady said, "I've had a marvelous evening. Would you like to stay the night?"
The man hesitated then said, "Do you act like this with every man you meet?"
"No," she replied, "Just the ones who catch my eye."

A guide to losing weight for good, with the help of your mind. 'Are you tired of starving yourself silly to get that perfect summer bikini body, only to put a stone back on by Christmas? Fed up of starting the New Year with the latest diet 'craze' only to be back where you started - and more - by March? I was. Until I learned the secret every dieter needs to know - the power of hypnosis. In Mind Over Fatter I'll help to train your mind so you can break free of the diet cycle once and for all. Anna xx'

An Astronaut's Guide to Life on EarthReleased 29th January 2015
Chris Hadfield tells all about his decades of training as an astronaut, logging nearly 4,000 hours in space. During this time he has disposed of a live snake while piloting a plane, broken into a Space Station with a Swiss army knife and been temporarily blinded while clinging to the exterior of an orbiting spacecraft. Hadfield reveals that the secret to his success and survival is due to an unconventional philosophy he learned at NASA: prepare for the worst - and enjoy every moment of it. This refreshing, hard-won wisdom will teach you how to think like an astronaut, and will change the way you view life on Earth.

Columbia Records announced today that Bob Dylan's new studio album, Shadows In The Night, will be released on February 3, 2015. Featuring ten tracks, the Jack Frost-produced album is the 36th studio set from Bob Dylan and marks the first new
hit Tempest.
commented, “It was a real privilege to make this album. I've wanted to do something like this for a long time but was never brave enough to approach 30-piece complicated arrangements and refine them down for a 5-piece band. That's the key to all these performances. We knew these songs extremely well. It was all done live. Maybe one or two takes. No overdubbing. No vocal booths. No headphones. No separate tracking, and, for the most part, mixed as it was recorded. I don't see myself as covering these songs in any way. They've been covered enough. Buried, as a matter a fact. What me and my band are basically doing is uncovering them. Lifting them out of the grave and bringing them into the light of day.

Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Branch Manager Paul Aspin feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although
that obviously helps. Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Blackburn, Preston and Ribble Valley areas
