Jack finds a photographic opportunity in an unlikely place

T H E N E W S L E T T E R

Jack 藍立傑, a fourth year student of

Industrial Design 工業設計 at DYU,

tells us about one of his favourite places on campus.

This picture was taken from the roof of the Design & Art College building at DYU. Despite being a rather desolate place for grass to grow, the grass you can see, in the foreground of the photo above, gives me a really strong optimistic feeling. This is because it only took a few small gaps in the concrete and some rainy weather for this grass to thrive here.

I see this as a metaphor of opportunity. We all need to be like this grass and look for our own gaps of opportunity in which to thrive. Furthermore, this photo teaches us that in life we often find beauty in the most unlikely of places.

Yolanda’s artworks P A G E 3

Last weekend my sister and I went to Japan.

First, we went to Fukuoka 福岡. There were many famous local noodle and soup

dishes. Then for the next few days we went to the capital of Japan, Tokyo. While in Tokyo we visited many famous places. Japanese culture has many very unique customs. This was a wonderful trip. I really hope that I will be able to visit Japan again sometime soon.

Yolanda, 游嬅蓉, a second year student from DYU’s Department of Visual Communication Design shows us two of her artworks.

These two pictures are my artworks. Our class learnt how to layout a book. This included drawing pictures and using design soft-

ware. Our team’s story was about environmental pollution. I hope everyone can treasure our earth.
