English through Mythology – Robin Hood (로빈후드)

Robin Hood: Creative Dialogue

로빈후드 : 대화

Instructions:

Please read the sample dialogue (대화) about Robin Hood (로빈

후드). After reading the sample dialogue, please make up a new

dialogue (새로운 대화) about Robin Hood. Good luck!

Sample dialogue: Ji-hye and Cheol-su talk about Nottingham

Ji-hye and Cheol-su are travelling in the UK. In this dialogue, Cheol-su suggests visiting Nottingham in order to find out about Robin Hood.

Ji-hye: I’m really enjoying our trip to London!

Cheol-su: Me too! We’ve seen Big Ben, the British Museum, and Buckingham Palace. I also enjoyed walking around the botanical gardens at Kew.

Ji-hye: Yes, that was fun (재미있었어요). Well, what shall we do next?

Cheol-su: I really want to visit Nottingham. Robin Hood, the

legendary hero (전설에서 있는 영웅), was from Nottingham. He

lived in Sherwood Forest (셔우드 숲) with a band of outlaws (무

법자들). They robbed (약탈했습니다) the rich in order to feed the poor.

Ji-hye: Robin Hood sounds admirable (훌륭한). But how about

Sherlock Holmes? Sherlock Holmes was a genius (천재). He solved many crimes. He lived here in London. If we stay in London, we can visit Sherlock Holmes’s house.

Cheol-su: Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character. The writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote stories about the detective, but Sherlock Holmes didn’t exist in reality.

Ji-hye: Well, how about Robin Hood? Did Robin Hood exist?

Cheol-su: Robin Hood is a legendary hero (전설에서 있는 영웅). A similar person probably existed, but we can’t be sure.

Ji-hye: I’m very curious about Robin Hood. If we visit Nottingham, what can we do?

Cheol-su: If we visit Nottingham, we can see Nottingham Castle

(노팅엄의 성곽). The Sheriff of Nottingham (노팅엄의 보안관) lived at Nottingham Castle. We can also catch a bus from

Nottingham to Sherwood Forest (셔우드 숲). At Sherwood Forest, we can have a good walk and learn more about Robin Hood.

Ji-hye: Is there a Robin Hood museum (박물관)?

Cheol-su: There isn’t a museum, but you can see a statue (동상) of Robin Hood.

Ji-hye: If you ask me, Robin Hood sounds similar to Hong Gil-dong. When we return to South Korea, we can visit Hong Gil-

dong’s birthplace (홍길동 생가). There’s no need to go to Nottingham.

Cheol-su: Maybe you’re right. There are many interesting places

here in Britain. We could go to Oxford (옥스포드) or York (요크)

instead of Nottingham (노팅엄). Let’s read our guidebook and consider where to go next…
