Own your mistakes. The only way to learn is to make mistakes. The only way to learn from mistakes is to own them. You’ll be surprised how much people will value you for owning your mistakes, no matter how small your role in them. Appreciate what you have before you ask for more. Because there is always someone worse off than you. Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live. But never forget you don’t have a body, you have a soul. Your exterior will never define your interior. Words are powerful. It takes just two to commit your life to another. Words are powerfully good or bad—choose them wisely. Be honest. People will value your opinion if it is raw, honest, and made with consideration. Escape into a film. Bad day? Don’t dwell on it. Escape to someone else’s reality or jump into a fiction novel. Two hours later you’ll have forgotten the trivialities.

2/23/16 BERNICE HARTMAN, Nitram Lodge No. 188, was born in Long Island, New York and at the age of 6 years her family moved to St. Petersburg. Bernice had one sister and brother. Bernice graduated from St. Petersburg High and worked alongside her mother in Blue Ribbon Laundry. There she met her husband of 66 years, Manford, who was an Air Force Veteran and worked as a Plumber. They had twin girls and a son, beautiful grandchildren and great-grands. Bernice served proudly as Worthy Matron of OES, Floral City Chapter #164. Bernice worked 13 years for Sears in Sales and Children Nurseries. Her hobbies include pouring and painting ceramic figurines and porcelain dolls, Sewing, Knitting, Crocheting, Reading, Singing, Dancing and traveling to Memphis on family vacations. Bernice and resident, Runette Vizandiou have been good friends for many years. They reminisce about their times working in Sears, and good times in the Star. We also hear you are marveled at how beautiful the Home is. Welcome Bernice, Room #236A, to our Masonic family!

2/24/16 MANNING “MD” MILLER, St. Petersburg Lodge No. 139, was born in Spartanburg SC. He enlisted in the Navy during WWll at age 17. His ship participated in landings in the Pacific and Philippines that deployed the first Occupation Troops in Japan after the Hostilities. He attended the University of Tennessee under the GI Bill and received a commission in the Army Reserves upon Graduation. He became a Mason in 1949. He was married for 50 years to Bernice. They have two children, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He moved to Florida from Indiana and worked as an Independent Motor Transportation Consultant and was actively involved in many Fraternal and Civic Activities. MD stayed active volunteering at St. Anthony’s Hospital in the Emer-gency Room, and for St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen. He was also President of his Sunday School Class and Past President of the Winston Park Condo Association in NE St. Petersburg. He has a passion for research and history and belongs to The Sons of the American Revolution and The Sons of the Confederate Veterans. Welcome MD to Room #209S, and our Masonic Home family!

3/3/16 MICHAEL “MIKE” & MAREDA ZOUMBEROS, Fellowship Lodge No. 265, are born Floridians! They will be cele-brating 68 years of marriage on May 10, 2016! They have six chil-dren, 13 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren! Mike was in the Navy and in the Air Reserves for about six years. He graduated college with a Business Degree and became a Mason in 1952. He has been a member of Scottish Rite and Shrine since 1956. He worked as a Banker/Financier. He was involved in Commercial Real Estate and was licensed as a Stock Broker and Commercial Property Appraiser. Mike also held a Thoroughbred Horse Racing license too. He retired in 1976. His past hobbies were gambling – cards, horses and casinos. He likes playing cards, especially poker. Mareda worked as a clerk for Madison Drug Store in Tampa and then worked for Ford Motor Company up until her second child was born, then she stayed at home to take care of her family. Her past hobbies included; sewing, knitting and crocheting. She used to play Racquetball, enjoyed exercising and taking different classes and when she was 50 years old she won 1st Place in a weight lifting competition that she had never even trained for! She said she was just very used to carrying kids, grocery’s and big bags of dog food! Welcome to the Masonic Home family and congratulation on your upcoming Anniversary! resides in Room #104B, and her

birthday is February 25th. She

moved to our Masonic Home in

October 2014 accompanied by her husband Mikel ... months later he

passed away. Elaine was born in the Bronx, New York and was

raised on Long Island. Her parents were of Greek descent, her father

was an Accountant, her mother worked as Head Teller in a Bank,

and she has one sister. Elaine had a love for music at an early age

and learned to play the Piano and Organ. She graduated from High

School and attended 2½ years of College, taking Court Recording

courses, then worked as an Executive Secretary for an Ad Agency,

later becoming a Court Recorder. Elaine, had two sons James and

John from her first marriage of 18 years. She moved her family to

Vero Beach, Florida in 1984, to be near parents, then in 1987 she

met Mikel at a Singles Club. Four months later they were married on

January 16, 1988. Mikel helped her raise her two boys and worked

as a Certified General Contractor until he retired, while Elaine

worked 20 years as Paralegal with a Law Firm in the East Coast.

Mikel was a Mason of 25 plus years and was Worshipful Master in

1995 and Elaine has been an O.E.S. Member for over 25 years serv-

ing all chairs. Her lifetime interest was playing the Organ. She was

Church Choir Director for her Greek Orthodox Church. She loves

music and dancing, and loved to cook and bake. She did Crocheting

and Knitting, traveled to the Bahamas and the Caribbean on cruises,

and they had seasonal tickets to Florida Theme Parks and a time

share. She also considered herself to be a “Handy Woman” - there

was no job she couldn’t handle and she had her own personal tool

kit. Her favorite pastimes are reading and computers. Elaine spent

26 wonderful years married to Mikel. Her son James lives in Ohio

and John in New York and she has 4 grandchildren. They are very

supportive, visit when they can, and talk on the phone weekly. She

stays busy organizing her sheet music, and playing the Piano in the

front lobby, for her peers’ enjoyment. Elaine’s keyboard is near her

room door where she plays often - there’s always residents outside

her room listening to her play. Elaine knows they enjoy her music

and that keeps her uplifted. Elaine enjoys the Ice Cream Socials and

her favorite program is, What’s on your mind with Lisa. Congratula-

tions Elaine in being our Resident of the Month for April! May your

Easter be filled with Wonderful Blessings, and we patiently wait for

your next music performance!
