We’re Not Going Back is about the1984/85 miners’ strike… more or less.
But, in this hard-hitting musicalcomedy there are no miners.Instead, we follow the fortunes ofthree sisters in a pit village, hithard by the Government’s waragainst the miners and
determined to set up a branch of ‘Women Against Pit Closures’
Olive, Mary and Isabel are like any other sisters whose everyday
squabbles became a background hum to the strike that forced them toquestion their lives, their relationships and their family ties.
We’re Not Going Back tackles the resilience of working communities, the make-and-mend fabric of family and the power of sticking two fingers up to a government hell-bent ondestruction… and all with humour, song and a six pack of Babycham.

SANS is the quartet of English multi-instrumentalistAndrew Cronshaw (electric zither, fujara, ba-wu,marovantele, kantele etc), the great Finnish singerSanna Kurki-Suonio, English/Australian multi-instrumental reeds player Ian Blake, and TigranAleksanyan, Armenian master of his country’sheart-rendingly voice-like reed-pipe, the duduk.
Formed by the musicians who made Cronshaw’smost recent CD, The Unbroken Surface of Snow(which spent 3 months in the top 10 of theEuropean world music airplay chart), SANS is aninstrumental and vocal combination not found in
any other band in the world, in which the fourmembers draw deeply on their different butremarkably compatible traditions including theancient Karelian songs that became Finland’sKalevala, the sweeping melodies of Armenia andEnglish folk-song. They combine to make agenuinely new music of extraordinary beauty, intensity and fluidity in which each performance isa new creation. Therefore the band’s debut CDSANS Live, released in April 2014, was recordedlive on its Flanders tour in December 2013.
