Site Specific Hazards

Electrowinning receives residue slurry from the Nickel Refinery IPC Area and processes it to obtain a precious-metals rich residue slurry. Remaining precious metals and other products are recovered throughout the process.

At Electrowinning, workers need to be aware of site specific hazards and their related controls. These include but are not limited to:

• Arsine• Electrical Hazards• Reagents• Mobile Equipment• Hydraulic Equipment• Overhead Cranes

Vale uses the hierarchy of controls to mitigate risk.

INVAC (Sheltering in Place)

The Safe Assembly Areas for Electrowinning are:

Dry Area• If accessing from outside, proceed to Door 60.• From inside, the dry is located at the north end of the utilities

building.

Electrowinning Lunchroom• The Electrowinning Lunchroom is located on the 3rd floor inside

the Electrowinning plant, adjacent to the center stairwell.

PS&S Building• Is located east of the Electrowinning Gatehouse (not shown).

Electrowinning Gatehouse• Located at the entry gate on Power Street, coming into

the property.

INVAC identified by a PA announcement followed by an intermittent tone. Upon receiving notifications to INVAC, proceed to the nearest Safe Assembly Area.
