Tao is shapeless but can take any shape. Tao is invisiblebut can create any object. Tao is extremely profound as itcreates the universe; it enables the sun, the moon andthe stars to move in orbit. Tao creates the earth. Theearth gives life to all beings. Life on earth changes withthe cycle of the days, months, years and eras. Endless isthe cycle of birth, growth, sickness, and death in thisworld. This is the reality of all living beings on earth.

1

Tao is the principle that we shouldcultivate. Tao is the Road that leads usback to Buddhaland.

Everything that follows its natural cycleand principle is Tao. Having good orderand principle is Tao.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 12

2

Tao is the ultimate principle that rules the universe, and Tao is also abroad roadway for human life. Tao exists in the sky. Without it, thestars would not shine and the planets would go out of their orbits.Tao exists on earth. Without it, the wind would not blow, the waterswould not flow, and nothing would grow. Tao also exists in humanbeing. Without it, the True nature of a human being would not showand human relationships would be confused and distracted. Thosewho cultivate and consummate Tao realize and enlighten their truenature eternally. Tao thrives in them constantly with endlessstrength. They will become Angels and Buddhas. Therefore, only bypracticing Tao with your true nature can you achieve perfection.

Tao is beyond mere words. Tao is like a key that canunlock the door of mystery of life and death. Oncewe obtain this precious key we can unlock the door.We can enter and, if we have faith in Tao andpractice it well, we can understand the mystery oflife and death.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 14

4

In Buddhism, “the Diamond Sutra” is your “non-destructive True Self”. When you receive Tao theHoly Teacher opens your Mystical (Heavenly) Gatewith the hand of the Tao-transmitting Master. He isshowing you the Diamond Sutra before your eyes.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 24

5

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 17

Tao has no boundary, no racial and nationaldiscrimination. Tao prevails over the entire world. It isjust that we have forgotten its existence.Where is Tao?It is in you, in your daily life. Everyone has Tao buteveryone forgets it. That is why we need to receive Taotoday. The Holy Teacher shows us a path towardenlightenment. If we follow this path we will be able togo home. Where is our home? It is where you cannotsee but you can feel.

6

You can feel Tao when you are tranquil. When yourthoughts are confused you cannot experiencetranquility. Therefore, to cultivate Tao is to cultivateour mind. Tao does not exist in the present only. Taolets you speak, do things, make a living, transcend allworries, and frees you.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 18

7

By cultivating Tao we eliminate our evil thoughtsone by one and keep our good thoughts, that is Tao.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 13

7

Tao is more than mere words。 Sometimes itmay be expressed simply, but it can never beexpressed entirely. Take a flower, for example.A flower does not live forever. It blooms; itwithers, just like all living things. Therefore, weshould cherish every moment.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 20

7

When you bear Tao in your heart you find Taoeverywhere you go. Always remember not to loseTao in your heart. If you always bear Tao in yourheart then Tao will be a part of you, like yourshadow is to your body. Will you exist if there is noTao in you? No. Tao is everywhere. It is notnecessary to seek Tao somewhere far away.Similarly, dhamma is everywhere. It is notnecessary to seek dhamma somewhere far away.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 23

8

What is “Buddha Dhamma”? Dhamma is aliveand so is Tao. What you are looking at around youis also alive. If you try to stop your mind fromthinking, from having a single thought, it isimpossible and meaningless. Your heart has to bealive, then your thought will be alive. Therefore, those who realizes Tao can only be truly alive.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 23 & 24

9

You have to realize the concept between ‘alive’ and‘dead’. A thing that is alive has a life; does a thing thatis dead has a life? What is alive is you yourself, what isdead is the chair you are sitting on. You must realizethoroughly life and death, once you realize andunderstood, at that very moment you are not aphysical thing, but a living bodhisattva.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 23 & 24

10

Tao is nature, without any artificial additives andcan be applied freely anywhere. It is just like whenwe behave naturally at all time without any artificialmotives, we feel free, without any pressure and wealways feel comfortable wherever we go. We shouldcontinue to be good by helping others and domeaningful deeds everywhere. We cultivateourselves to be good people and treat others well. Thus, others will like us wherever we go. Does thisnot make us feel well and comfortable?

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 21

11

Our Tao is most natural, natural taste is the mostdurable. You go round saving others, doingmeaningful things everywhere, you have done wellin cultivating yourself and handling matters. Thus, others will welcome you wherever you go. Does thisnot make you feel well and comfortable?

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 21

11

When we are comfortable, we will feel happy. On the other hand, when we areuncomfortable, we will not be happy. If we areunhappy we will feel pain. We will feelheartless, as though our hearts are dead.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 21

12

The meaning of life is to have a life worth living. We should work hard every day and live our liveswell. Thus, our lives will be filled with energy andprosperity, just like a Buddha. We should alwaysbe a little living Buddha. As such, recite the sutrasproperly. Sit straight and write orderly. This is Tao;being balanced and righteous, unbiased andimpartial.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 21 para 2

13

Can Tao be described? Tao is beyond description. You canonly feel it with your heart. Just like the satisfactiongained from work, you need to feel it with your heart. You may have a better chance of expressing Tao whenyour mind is truly and be sincere about Tao. Still, youcannot truly express your exact feelings in words sincethere is always a constraint. Hence, Tao cannot truly beexpressed with words, and there is no benefit in talkingtoo much about it. The best way is to sincerely feel itwith your heart.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 19

14

Tao is preached only to express what it is. The words andlanguage used today in attempting to describe Tao arenot the true Tao. Words help us understand the meaningof Tao, but we should not attach ourselves to thesewords, shapes or physical forms. That is why our HolyTeacher said the true Tao cannot be expressed with just afew words. No matter how much or how little he tries totalk about Tao, there is always a constraint. Only whendisciples feel it with their true hearts can they attain Tao,and what they have attained is true.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 19 & 20

15

Where is Tao? Tao is in our hearts, and just as everyone hasa heart everyone has Tao. Tao is natural. We eat when weare hungry; we rest when we are tired. Everything isnatural. “Being natural is Tao.” We lose Tao if we areunnatural. We get sick because we violate the law ofNature. That is not Tao. If we do not follow Tao we goagainst Nature and will have problems. Therefore, humanbeings have to follow the Principle of Nature. Violating Taois violating Heavenly/Nature Principles. “Those whocomply with Nature will thrive and those who go againstNature will perish.”

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 16 & 17

15

Understand yourself here and now. Understand whereyou are, which position you are in, and whatresponsibilities you should shoulder. Be good to othersand others will be good to you. This is Tao.For example, when you eat, you naturally usechopsticks or cutlery because that is what you aresupposed to use; this is Tao. Another example, whenserving others, you serve them first and then yourself. The manner in which you decide who is served first isTao, too.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 14

16

Tao exists in our daily life in Principle. In Nature itis similar. Everything has its Principle, which hasorder and rule. Therefore, we should follow thePrinciple. If we are not clear about the Principle,we may go astray. Then we will misunderstandTao.

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 15

17

Zhi and Tao are Chinese words. Zhi means, “toknow.” Tao means “the way, the path.” Hence, whenwe say “Zhi Tao” it means, “to know the way, thepath.” Why should we know the path? Why gothrough a ditch when there is a path? Is there not apath for us to follow to inspire us in our daily life? Why not use a crosswalk when there is one? Isn’tthat Tao?

Bright Wisdom “About Tao” … Page 15 & 16

18

There is a saying: “Those who comply withHeaven/Nature will thrive and those whogo against Heaven/Nature will perish.”Buddhaland relies on us to practice moralityand to cultivate our True Self. Therefore, Taois wherever we walk, stand, sit, and sleep. Ifwe follow the principles of Tao in our dailylife, we are cultivating Tao.
