Angat Damtigil munasa irigasyon

Mula alas-2 ng hapon, tinigilng Angat ang irigasyon sa may27,000 ektarya ng sakahan sa Bu-lacan at Pampanga, mas pinahala-gahan ang pangangailangan ngmalinis na tubig ng mahigit sa 10milyong mamamayan ng MetroManila habang lumagpas sa kri-tikal na antas ang tubig bunsod ngpanahon ng tagtuyot.

Sinabi ni Gladys Sta. Rita, pa-ngulo ng National Power Corp.(Napocor), na sinara ang mga geytng Angat papunta sa mga daluyanng irigasyon patungong Bustos Damnang bumaba ang antas ng tubig sa179.74 meters above sea level(masl) alas-10 ng umaga kahapon.

Nasa 180 masl ang kritikal naantas ng tubig sa dam. Nakadagdagpa sa pagbaba ng antas ng tubig saAngat ang kaunting ulan at lumiliitna nakukuha mula sa mga water-

shed ng kabundukang Sierra Madreat mula sa Umiray River.

Sa kabila nito, tiniyak ng mgaopisyal ng National Irrigation Ad-ministration (NIA) sa mgamagsasaka na hindi agad na matu-tuyuan ang mga sakahan dahil sapagsasara ng Angat.

“Per NIA [Central Luzon region-al] director [Reynaldo] Puno, theystill have impounded water at Bus-tos Dam and still receiving waterfrom the Bayabas River, enough tosustain farmlands until the harvestby the end of the month,” ani Sta.Rita, tinukoy ang impormasyonnakuha noong Biyernes.

Since Buboy, Alvin and I tookthe 5 a.m flight from Manila,we didn’t know if we were half-asleep or half-awake when welanded in Bohol.

Nevertheless, we wentstraight to the build site in Loonalong with thousands of youthvolunteers. Six initial houseswere built. We placed bamboosticks as foundation of thewalls. It was tiring, but worth-while. Coke ensured that wewere all hydrated well in the

scorching heat by putting uphydration stations that dis-pensed cold water.

The YB project, with thetheme “Tagbo. Tukod. Tana!”(Let’s gather. Let’s build. Let’sdo it!), will run for severalmonths. It targets to rebuildover 8,000 homes in 17 munici-palities across the province. YBprojects were also held inDavao, Cagayan de Oro, andCamrines Sur (Naga).

After toiling hard, it wastime to party harder at theyouth convergence at the HolyName University open field withfun games, inspirational mes-sages from youth leaders, and amini-concert top-billed byBuboy and his band, plus Bo-holano talents.

Buboy is truly one of Bohol’sgems.

He shared his thoughts onhis home province: “Boholcould be the country’s besttourist destination. It’s so peace-ful and has one of the lowestcrime rates. Boholanos alwaysflash a friendly smile. There arestill so many places in theprovince that are unexplored. Ijust wish the graft and corrup-tion would stop. Proper garbagedisposal is a must to preservethe beauty of our beaches.”

Before flying to Bohol, Buboytoured the United States with hisdaughter Angelina. The highlightof their trip was watching EllenDeGeneres’ talk show live.

What an ideal dad to Angeli-na and an Ulirang Anak of Bo-hol, he truly is!

Bride’s brodAlvin Anson is excited for the

wedding of his sister, Boots An-son-Roa: “I’m so happy that shewas able to find a good man,”he said of his future brother-in-law King Rodrigo. “Although Imiss my late brother-in-law, Pe-te Roa, I approve of King. He’scool, intelligent and funny. Theyare a perfect match.” Alvin and

I are both single, so he oftenjests that since his sister wasable to find love anew at herage, there is still hope for us.

Brian in the bizBrian Llamanzares is raring

to join show biz. “I know I havebig shoes to fill since my lolo(Fernando Poe Jr.) is an icon,”he pointed out. “I will keep inmind what my lola (Susan Ro-ces) told me: To remain humbleand take care of the good namethat lolo left behind.”

He is more than ready to rollwith the show biz punches à laFPJ.

Cool coupleChris and Clarisse Tiu are

still on their honeymoon stageeven if it’s been eight monthssince they got hitched.

“We are in no rush to have ababy,” said Chris. “My friendskeep badgering me about it, butmy wife and I want to enjoyeach other longer.”

For now, their “baby” isClarisse’s specialty shop, UrbanPantry at Greenhills Promenadewhere rare condiments, spicesand other culinary stuff aresold.

Since Chris is hounded by fe-male fans, doesn’t she get jeal-ous?

“No room for jealousy,” shequipped. “Chris and I go a longway back since we were high-school sweethearts. So ourfoundation is solid. I don’t makebantay during his games. I onlywatch the important matcheslive. Sometimes he would teaseme: ‘But you’re now my wife.You have to come with mewhenever I have a game!’”
