THE PHILIPPINES has P21 billion worth of un-used household items that could still be sold, according to a study by classified ads website

    OLX Philippines.Formerly Sulit.com.ph, OLX

Philippines (olx.ph) has recentlylaunched its Yesss, Yaman!campaign in its commitment toeducate Filipinos on the hid-den wealth inside their homes

and the value of selling pre-owned items online.Magbawas ng kalat sa ba-

hay para gumaan ang buhay, said OLX Philippines managingdirector RJ David.

Pre-owned items that arestill in good condition could besold to others who may findthem useful, said David.

The study was conducted forOLX Philippines by global re-search company TNS in June toJuly this year.

TNS has a presence in over80 countries and is part of Kan-tar, one of the worlds largestinsight, information and consul-tancy groups.

The first of its kind in thecountry, according to OLX, thestudy showed that householdshave a vast number of itemsthat are no longer in use yet arestill in good working condition.

Preloved stuffDone on a random sampling

    of 500 households in urban

cities in the country, the studyasked the respondents to listdown household items they

were no longer using but werestill in good condition.

    The data gathered from the

sample was then projected tothe population to estimate theaccumulated value of unuseditems in households in thecountry.

Based on the studys projec-tions, TNS was able to computea total of more than P21 billionin pre-owned items that are stillin good working conditionfound in households in thePhilippines.

These items include electron-ics, clothes and fashion acces-sories, vehicles and automotivemerchandise, home appliancesand other collectibles.

Old but still functional com-puters are estimated to be

worth P3.8 billion; mobilephones, P3.5 billion; unusedclothing may be worth P1.5 bil-lion, while kitchen appliancesare at P1.08 billion, accordingto the statement released byOLX Philippines.

    The study also measured the

    participants willingness to sell

searches more localized. Forusers who live in Cebu, for in-stance, their searches wouldshow them results within theirown vicinity instead of givingthem results from Metro Manilaand other cities.

600,000 usersThe website has so far more

than 600,000 users that haveposted their items for sale.

OLX also has a mobile appfor iOS and Android, as it seesthat up to 90 percent of traffic

to their site will come from mo-bile users in the future.

Apart from online transac-tions, OLX helps those who arenot yet familiar with how the

website works through a teamgoing around neighborhoodsand villages asking people ifthey have second-hand stuff forsale, according to Me-anne Bun-dalian, OLX Philippines head ofbusiness development, sales andmarketing.

Called brand ambassadors, they go around places in MetroManila and Cebu equipped withtheir own mobile phones withInternet access or hotspots sothey can assist potential sellersin posting their items onlineand getting instant feedbackfrom possible buyers.

First-time online sellers canalso send requests to OLX forpersonal assistance in doing aninventory of their stuff to deter-mine their potential selling value.

    SHOWBUZZ WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2014 7ROMEL M. LALATA, Editor

    Celebs share chilling tales

Gabby ConcepcionI was 10 years old when it

happened. In our ancestralhome in San Juan, I took ashower. The water was verycold. Suddenly, the ceiling man-hole door (small entry point toceiling) suddenly opened. Ablack figure with huge blackeyes peeked and stared at me. Ifreaked out! I stood frozen, still

and silent. Then like a flash, theceiling door shut and the figuredisappeared. I ran out of theshower half-naked. My parentssaw how frightened I look. Sothey had the security check theceiling but nothing and nobody

was found. Did I freak out or didi freak IT out? To this day, I cantfigure it out.

Rita AvilaI woke up hearing someone

    sneezing behind me. I had

goosebumps right away becauseI was alone that night. Then Isaw a boy, about two years old,

sitting on the pillow. He waswearing a whitekamiseta. Hetried to reach out for my hand,as if he wanted to play. I triedto shout but no voice came out. This happened before I gotpreggy.

Jed MadelaIt happened in a majestic

Spanish house converted into ahotel in Bohol. I stayed at the

master suite. While I was rest-ing, I hung my jacket on the

wooden chair. Then I s aw thejacket move like it was beingblown. I thought it was the air-con. But suddenly the chair alsomoved. I just froze. Then nextthing I felt was that, I was be-ing pinned down by someoneon top of me and breathinginches away from my face. Itried to turn away but I couldstill feel it following the direc-

tion of my face. I prayed aloudto St. Benedict (protectoragainst evil spirits) and then it

moved away. From then on, Inever leave home without themedal of St. Benedict hangingaround my neck.

Aiko MelendezNo major ghost story. Just

paramdam. A friend of minecommitted suicide. I was pray-ing that God would forgive him

for taking his own life. Then Igot goosebumps. It felt like acold wind was hugging me.

Ronnie QuizonIt happened in our vacation

    house in Baguio. Epy, Eric,

Donna, our friend and I werefooling around. We all knewthat there were dwarfs andghosts in our house. We couldhear all sorts of noises likebanging and knocking. It musthave been the beings that didntlike the ruckus we were mak-ing. When the rest went to bed,my friend and I had a fewdrinks with our driver. Weheard creepy noises, which weignored. My friend asked me toaccompany him to the bath-room because he was scared. Ifound it so ridiculous. I teasedhim about being a coward. Then we heard a mocking kindof laugh, like the laughter ofold witches in movies. It scaredthe hell out of us!

John ArcillaOne gloomy day, I fetched

my sis, who stayed at a dorm inSta. Ana. While we were walk-ing to the car, somethingprompted me to look back at

    the dorm. A 40-something guy,

standing in the veranda, waslooking at my sister. I can vivid-ly remember [how he looked].It felt like my sister broke hisheart. It was a ladies dorm so Iassumed the guy I saw was the

owner. When I told my sisabout what I saw, she said thatthere was no guy in the dormand nobody can stand in the ve-randa because its filled withempty cases of beer. It stillsends chills down my spine

    when I remember that creepyexperience.
