Thestorageheatingstoveisafireplacemadeofceramicornaturalstone.Theenergyorheatgeneratedbyburningwoodisabsorbedbytheceramicstor-agecore.Oncethewoodhascompletelyburned,thiscore,asaheatexchanger,radiatesthestoredenergyintheformofheatatacarefullydosedrate,releas-ingitoveritssurfaceforanextendedtimeintotheenvironment.

Thehumanorganismresponds to radiatedheatwithaparticularlypleasantfeeling.Itisphysiologicallybeneficialandsoothing.Since prehistoric times humans have utilised and enjoyed radiated heat. Whetheryouhavecutyourownwoodor bought it, the important thing is:thewoodshouldbedriedforatleasttwoyearsbeforeitisburned!

2.4DRYINGANDSTORING WOOD

DRYING

The water content of firewood has agreateffectonitsburningproperties.Yourwoodshouldbeasdryaspossi-ble.Onlythencanitgiveoffmuchheatand burn without polluting the envi-ronment.Freshlycutwoodcancontainbetween 45 and 60% moisture de-pendingontheseasonandtype.Aftertheoptimaldrying thiswatercontentdrops to below 15%. Depending onthewoodtypethiscantakeabouttwoyears,andevenlongerforsomekinds.

STORAGE

If

firewood is to dry thoroughly, it mustbecutintosmallpieces.Checkthisyourself: thecircumferenceshould be max 20–25 cm. Store thewoodoutofdoors,protectitfromrainandsnow,andmakesureitiswellven-tilated.

Burningorcombustionisarapidoxidationofsubstancesformingflames.Whenwoodburns,theoxygenintheaircombineswiththecarbonandhydrogeninthewood.Intheprocess,energyisreleasedintheformofheatandlight. Intheidealcasetheproductsofcompletecombustionareonlycarbondioxide,ashes(formedprimarilyofthewood’smineralconstituents),andwater.

Thecombustionprocessonfirewoodcanbedividedroughlyintothreephases.

Heatinganddrying– In thisfirstphasethewaterandothervolatilesubstancesstoredinthefirewoodevaporate.

Pyrolysis–Inthissecondphasethefirewooddecomposesattemperaturesfromabout150°C.Actualcombustion–Inthisthirdphasethegasesformedinthefirsttwophasesre-actwithadditionaloxygenfromtheatmospheretoformcarbondioxideandwater.Alsoanyremainingcharcoalburnscompletelywithtimeinthecombustionzone.Onlyashesremainasthesingleresidueofcombustion.Eachphaseofcombustioncanbeobservedveryeasilyonanopenfire.

TheTonwerkstorageheatingstove isfit-ted as standard with a self-closing firingchamberdoor.Thisisanimportantoper-atingandsafetyelement.Thedoorclosesautomatically as soon as it is released.Consequently the Tonwerk storage heat-ingstoveissuitableforconnectiontoflueswithmultipleinstallations(severalModel1stovesconnectedtothesameflue).

3.3 SEALOFQUALITY

On the basis of these tests the Ton-werk storage heating stove has beenawardedthefollowingapprovals:

In these operating instructions wewish to set down each step that youmust take if you are to encounter noproblems when operating your Ton-werkstorageheatingstove.

Readthroughtheseoperatinginstruc-tionscarefullyandkeeptheminasafeplace. Your specialised dealer will bepleased to assist you with any ques-tionsyoumayhave.

5.3.1 WHENTHESTOVEPIPE PAINTDRIESWhenthestoveisfiredforthefirstfewtimesthepaintonthestovepipeemitsanodourwhenitdries.Makesurethatthecombustioncham-ber is completely filled. The Tonwerkstorage heating stove then reachesitsoptimaloperatingtemperatureandthepaintdriesfaster.Alsomakesuretheroomiswellventi-latedduringthisphase.

5.3.2 VENTPIPEANDVEN­ TILATINGSYSTEM

Extractor hoods and ventilating sys-temscanaffect theoperationofyourTonwerkstorageheatingstove.Please make sure that there is ade-quateincomingairformultipleinstal-lations.

5.3 GENERALINFORMATION

Indamporfoggyweather,atoutdoortemperaturesfrom15°C,andduringthetran-sitiontimeyouareadvisedtolightapilotfirebeforefiringthestoveproper.Thisservestodisplacethecold,heavyairinthechimneyandtocreatetherightcondi-tionsfortheoptimalextractionofsmoke.

Thispilotfireislitwithpaperinthechimney’sinspectionapertureuntilextractionisassured.

5.3.4 PREPARATIONSFORFIRING

Havereadyanadequatesupplyofchoppedfirewood,ecofriendlylightingaids,andkindling.Youarebeststoringthewoodinawarmroomforanumberofdaysbeforefiring.

6.FIRINGTHESTOVEPlace thefirewood in thefiringchamber.Placeanecofriendly lightingaidat thecentreandtwohandfulsofkindlingoverthetop.Bearinmindthatthestovemustbefilledwithsmallpiecesofchoppedwood33cminlength.Ifyouhaveasupplyofmixedwoodtypes,youcanburnthesetogether.

Nowignitethelightingaidandlockthedoor.Thewoodburnsfromtoptobottom.

IMPORTANTOnlywhenthereisastrongblazedoesthewoodreleaseitswholeenergythatcanthenbeabsorbedbythestoragestone.

Makesurethatthedoorhandleisat or(combustion45°):thisensuresthatthefirewoodcanburncleanlyandeffectively.Thedoorhandleatthesametimecontrolsthecombustionairaswell.

IMPORTANTKeepthedoorat(combustion45°)duringthewholecombustionprocess.Onlywhenthereisastrongblazedoesthewoodreleaseitswholeenergythatcanthenbeabsorbedbythestoragestone.

6.1 ADDINGMOREWOOD–FORMOREHEAT

Ifyouwantmoreheatsimplyaddanothertwopiecesof firewoodwhilethereareenoughflamesvisible.Theaddedwoodigniteswithinafewminutesandburnsfrombottomtotop.

IMPORTANTOpenthedoorslowly:firstjustagapwidesothatthepressureinthefiringchambercanequalise.Thishelps to reduce flyingash.Once thewoodhasburnedcompletelyandallflameshaveextinguished,movethedoorhandleuptotheverticalpositionandsocloseofftheairsupply.Thispreventstheheatreservoirfromcoolingtooquickly.YourTonwerkstor-ageheatingstovestayswarmlonger.

7.1 CLEANINGTHEWINDOW

7. CLEANINGANDCARINGFORYOURSTOVEWhenthestoveisusedregularlytheashesshouldbeemptiedonceortwiceweekly.Emptytheseonlywhenthestovehascooledcompletely!Roughsurfacesontheoutercladdingcanbevacuumedoffwithanupholsteryattachment.Polishedsurfacesarecleanedwithaspray-wetcloth.Theprovidedcleaningstoneisusedtoremovestubbornsoiling.Undernocircumstancesmustyouusehardbrushesorchemicalcleaningagents.Theoptimalfunctionalitycanbeassuredonlywhenthechimney,stovepipe,andstovearecleanedatleastonceayear.

Ifnecessaryclean the insideof thewindowwithamoist clothandsomeashes.Repeatforstubbornsoilingoruseaspecialfluewindowcleaner.

Whendirthascollectedbetweenthetwopanesremovethetwoscrews(1),openupthepanes,andcleantheseasdescribedabove.Closethepanesandscrewtheminplace.

7.2 CLEANINGTHESMOKEFLUE

Disengagethebar(1)onthemetalpanelandremovethecombustionchambercover.

Warranty claims become valid when the purchase price for thestovehasbeenpaidinaccordancewiththeagreementandthewarrantycertifi-catehasbeencompletedandreturnedwithinthirtydaystoTonwerkLausenAG.If one of these conditions is not fulfilled the minimum warranty of six monthsapplies.
