The Plan and Strategy
Eco city or sustainable city is city designed with consideration of environmental impact, inhabited by people dedicated to minimization of required inputs of energy, water and food, and waste output of heat, air pollution - CO2, methane, and water pollution. The term “eco-city” is widely traced to Richard Register’s (1987) book, Ecocity Berkeley.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sustainable_city)
INTRODUCTION
Lowering carbon emission will be the key of success toward a sustainable city

Global Environment Centre (GEC) – Japan has been supporting the Eco-town project of the United Nations Environment Program/International Environmental Technology Centre (UNEP/IETC) since 2004
Bandung City was selected in 2006 as the one of the pilot cities for UNEP/IETC’s eco-town project in order to respond to environment issues around the Asia Pacific region together with Dalian (China) and Penang (Malaysia) in 4th Asia-Pasific Eco-Business Forum 21-23 January 2008 in Kawasaki, Japan
BACKGROUND
Bandung is a capital of West Java Province, it’s located in 6,9ºS and 107, 6ºE, 791 m above the sea level. It has 167,3km2 and 2.329.929 inhabitant, so the density is 13.679 person/km2. Over the course of a year, the temperature typically varies from 23°C to 33°C

CASE STUDY
PROBLEM
Centralized of economic growth influenced by un-integrated land use set the lack of infrastructure such as: roads, housing, schools and hospitals
The gap ratio between built environment and urban open space
Solid waste management still the main problem for environment
BANDUNG
Figure (a) and (b) The finding didn’t meet correlation between population and density/km2; (c) but the amount of population in one area has significant correlation with the physical condition (urban form) of area.

TARGET
The current government of Bandung has made clear point with regard to its commitment to better improve the environmental quality divided into seven program and breakdown with two term :

Tamansari, as one of overcrowd area in Bandung, selected as Pilot Project, with planning: 1. Restore the river edge2. Provision of facilities and
infrastructure3. Built affordable house to remove
the dense settlement 4. Develop urban open space to
contribute green network of the city
PRIORITY
1. Provide 3-5m building set-back for river edge
PRIORITY
2. Provision of facilities and infrastructure
PRIORITY
3. Built affordable house to remove overcrowd settlement
PRIORITY
4. Develop urban open space to contribute green
network of the city
WASTE MANAGEMENT
The main disposal practice for MSW is open dumping. Very often landfill sites are swamp lands or low-lying areas, the wastes being used for reclamation.
Target of solid waste management by 2013 are: 1. 20% will be treated by 3R
technologies2. 30% goes to landfill3. 40% other technologies
LEARN FROM JAPAN
Takakura method is waste composting in individual level. It was found by A Japanese, Prof Koji Takakura.
The composting process is aerob where air (oxygen) is required as the intake process of outlining the growth of microorganisms
The break down of waste into compost and arise gas odors such as : ammonia gas, methane, sulfuric acid, etc, which harmless.
REDUCING SOLID WASTE VOLUME
PARTICIPATORY
The training process consists of three phases, namely:a. Mapping System and
Infrastructure Facilitiesb. Waste segregation processc. Organic waste treatment
process

CLEAN AND CREATIVE
FROM TRASH TO TRASHION
The emissions from developing countries and countries with economies in transition will
DECREASE in the near future due to integrated of environmental handling
