To deliver counselling services to affected individuals, other members of their families and sickle cell trait carriers.

To sensitize the public on the preventable nature of the disorder and promote health seeking behaviour.

To serve as reference service centres for reliable diagnosis of the sickle cell disorder

The Foundation commenced Sickle Cell service provision in July 2008 with 40 registered patients.

Sustainability Challenges The numbers;- the increasing numbers from 40 patients in

2008 to 18,245 by June this year over stretches existing

provisions and available human and material resources.

SCORE SC Cohort Research has assisted with skills

capacity development and laboratory.. The inadequacy and

low capacity of the medical and non medical personnel is

still a major challenge

The major challenge is, despite the 3 additional clinics

commissioned last year, congestion. There are usually over

five hundred patients per site on clinic days.

What is at stake

The existing structures;- the 6 clinics, the HPLC Machine, and well established system Over 18,000 registered patients from 6 states that include Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa in Nigeria and Maradin and Zinder states in Niger Republic The capacity in terms of skilled and experienced manpower The existing synergy in form of our established partnerships Government commitment and political will. International recognition, linkages and partnerships.

The needed support

The support of SCORE Sickle Cell Cohort Research is

well appreciated. The Foundation will continue to count on them and any other willing patner for human resources capacity development.

The Foundation has acquired a government allocated land for the sole purpose of constructing a clinic and diagnostic laboratory in Katsina township to further address the congestion and ensure the sustainability of the programme. Financial and material support for the construction work and equipping of the proposed additional clinic
