What is Infrared Thermography

Infrared Thermography (IR) operates by measuring the infrared energy

of any object’s surface and producing a detailed visual image showing

its temperature profile.

Since IR operates without physical contact, it offers operators a safe,

on-line, and cost-effective means to evaluate the electrical operation of

any property.

• We associate temperature to

colors, Blue- Cool, Red- Hot etc.

Its non-contact and keeps the user out of danger

Its two-dimensional: pictures are worth 1000 words

Allows for real-time scanning of stationary targets

Why Infrared?

•Why does Infrared Work?

Excessive heat frequently indicates potential problems in

Electrical & Mechanical environments. Corrosion, Resistance

and Friction all create heat…

Why is Infrared a Useful Diagnostic/Safety Tool….

Why Thermal Imaging for Safety?

1. Alerting you of potential Dangers

2. Minimizing potential Fire hazards

3. Eliminating Electric Shock

–Only when working live

4. Identifying hidden moisture or other environmental

conditions

What is NFPA 70E?

NFPA 70E, titled Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace, is a standard of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). The document covers electrical safety requirements for employees. The NFPA is best known for its sponsorship of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)

PURPOSE OF NFPA 70E:

NFPA 70E addresses employee workplace electrical safety requirements. The standard focuses on

practical safeguards that also allow workers to be productive within their job functions. Specifically, the

standard covers the safety requirements for the following:

Electrical conductors and equipment installed within or on buildings or other structures, including mobile

homes, recreational vehicles, and other premise (yards, carnival, parking lots, and industrial substations)
