IntheGospelpassage,fromLuke,JesusinstructsSimontolowerhisnetsforacatchdespiteanunsuccessfulnightof ishing.Peterisskepticalbutobeysandisamazedatthecatchof ishthathemakes.HekneelsdownbeforeJesusinastonishment.
ThissenseofaweandreverencebeforeGodshouldmotivateustodeepenourstewardshipwayoflife.AswecontemplatetheholinessofGod,wecometoaheightenedawarenessofwhataprivilegeitisthatHehaschosentoincludeus in His work of spreading the Gospel to others through the grateful sharing of the gifts He has given us. Aware of this privilege, we will then make the words of Isaiah our own: “Here I am Lord, send me!”

Bishopseemedalittleperturbed,butsimplycalledayoungmanoverbynameandgavehimabighug.TheyoungmanhadDownSyndrome.HeaskedhimifheknewwhereJesuswas?Hesaidyesandpointedatthetabernacle.BishopDriscollwenttothetabernacle,heldupahost,andaskedtheyoungman,“Whoisthis?”Hecriedout,“ThatisJesus!”andfelltohisknees.ItwasclearthatthisyoungmanknewwhathewasdoingwhenhereceivedtheEucharist.
Sometimeswemakethingsmorecomplicatedthentheyhavetobe.WhenwebelievethatJesusistheHost,theanswerquicklybecomes,“I’mnotworthy,”whenaskedtohelpdistributetheEucharist.Whichistheexactreasonyouwerebeingaskedinthe irstplace.YourreverenceandfaithmakeyoutheperfectcandidatetobecomeanExtraordinaryMinisterofHolyCommunion.Spendafewminutesinprayeraboutthis,thenlistenforGod’scall.Ifyouhearhim,respondlikeIsaiah,“HereIam,sendme.”
