KALEVALA JEWELRY’S PRODUCT CATALOG Kalevala Jewelry’s product catalog includes the current 2017 collection as well as useful information about our jewelry. Novelties for autumn 2017 will be presented in a separate product catalog which will be published in August 2017.

On Product Groups -section all individual pieces of jewelry belonging to different product groups are presented in ascending order by their product number. On the next section are presented Kalevala Jewelry’s spring 2017 novelties and they can be found also on Product Groups -section. In the following section (Product families) you can find the complete sets of jewelry along with information about sizes and delivery times. Earrings that are mirror images are marked as A/B to help ordering half pairs. Product families belonging to Classic collection are being presented in their own section. KALEVALA JEWELRY

Kalevala Koru Oy (the company) is the largest jewelry manufacturer in Finland. Kalevala Jewelry designs, produces and sells high quality gold, silver and bronze jewelry. Suunnittelija Erja Hirvi sai inspiraation Tunturimarja-mallistoon matkalla työhuoneelle, kun punaista hehkuvat pensaat kiinnittivät hänen huomionsa: ”Otin kuvia marjoista ja keräsin köynnöksiä mukaani. Niitä tutkimalla korusarja sai muotonsa.

Tunturimarja-korujen muotoilu ja hehkuvat lasihelmet toistavat samaa luonnon kauneutta."

The designer Erja Hirvi was inspired for the Mountain Berry collection on her way to her studio when her attention was drawn by beautiful bushes suffused with glowing red: ”I took pictures of the berries and collected some vines to take with me.

The collection found its form when I studied them.” The design and shimmering glass pearls of the Mountain Berry collection reflect the same beauty of nature.

6895 INGERdesign Inger Lindholm

1960-luvulla pelkistetyn, puhdaslinjaisen muotoilun asema vahvistui Kalevala Korun mallistossa. Rohkeaa, ennakkoluulotonta työtä modernin korumuotoilun kehittäjinä tekivät myös Kalevala Korun naissuunnittelijat Paula Häiväoja, Kirsti Ilvessalo ja Inger

Lindholm. Heidän koruissaan aikakauden moderni muotokieli sai mielenkiintoisen tulkinnan. Inger-korusarja on nimetty suunnittelijansa Inger Lindholmin mukaan.

In the 1960's, the reduced, pure-lined designs obtained a stronger position in the Kalevala Jewelry collections. Daring, open-min-ded development work in modern jewelry design was carried out also by female designers at Kalevala Jewelry: Paula Häiväoja,

Kirsti Ilvessalo and Inger Lindholm. Their pieces were intriguing interpretations of the modern idiom of their time. The Inger collection was named after its designer Inger Lindholm.

People used to believe that celestial bodies had an effect on their fate, and they deciphered the future from the positions of the stars. Circles and spirals, the ancient symbols of perfection and eternity, depicted in the Kosmos jewelry, reflect the boundless universe around us in which celestial bodies travel in their own orbs at their own rates. Johan Ludvig Runebergin (1894-1877) “Lähteellä” on kansallisrunoilijamme rakastetuimpia runoja. Sen herkkä kuva kesäisestä luonnosta on piirtynyt suomalaisten mieliin myös sävellyksenä: “Sua lähde kaunis katselen, likellä vettäsi. Kuin pilven varjot

vaeltavat kuvastimessasi.” Runebergin säkeet ovat innoittaneet korumuotoilija Kirsti Doukasia. Hänen Lähde-koruaan koristaa vaaleansininen jalokivi, topaasi. Jalokivi välkehtii ja loistaa kuin kirkas lähde, josta valonsäteet heijastuvat. Lähde-koru

kunnioittaa Runebergin syntymän 200-vuotisjuhlaa.

“By the Fountain” (Lähteellä) is one of the best-loved poems of Johan Ludvig Runeberg (1804–1877), the national poet of Finland. Its delicate imagery of Finnish nature in its summer splendour has also been set to music. “Oh fountain lovely, near thy

side, into thy depths I gaze, as clouds above cast shadowy forms across thy limpid face.” Runeberg’s verse has inspired designer Kirsti Doukas, whose Fountain jewellery features topaz, a gemstone that glitters and shimmers like moonbeams

reflecting from clear water. The Fountain jewellery is a tribute to honour the 200th anniversary of Runeberg’s birth.

Vanamo, Linnaea borealis, on rehevän kuusimetsän vieno kukka. Hento kasvi ratsastaa pehmeällä sammaleella ja nostaa varrestaan kukkavanan toisensa jälkeen. Kaino vanamo on suomalaisen metsän ujo kaunotar. Eino Leinon (1878 - 1926)

rakastettu runo Nocturne hengittää suomalaisen kesäyön ajatonta viestiä: Tuoksut vanamon ja varjot veen, niistä sydämeni laulun teen. Nuoren Eino Leinon säkeet ovat innoittaneet myös korumuotoilija Kirsti Doukasia. Hänen Vanamo-korunsa helmet

hehkuvat vienoa suloa.

Twinflower, Linnaea borealis, is a slender creeping shrublet flourishing in spruce forests. This delicate plant hugs the velvet moss, pushing up stems, one after another, bearing pairs of gentle bell-like flowers. Twinflower is a beautiful feature of the Finnish forest. One of Finland´s national poets, Eino Leino´s lines together with twinflower have inspired jewellery designer

Kirsti Doukas. The pearls in her Twinflower jewellery capture the essential charm of this delicate flower.

Talon sydän on tarina kestävästä rakkaudesta. Muistutus siitä, että koruja on annettu ja kannettu samoista syistä vuosituhannesta toiseen. Talon sydän on samalla kunnianosoitus uudelle Kalevala Kartanolle ja siellä työtään tekeville. Toisen

sydämen suojissa alati liikkeessä oleva pieni sydän edustaa kaikkia talossa liikkuvia ihmisiä, jotka herättävät rakennuksen henkiin. Kuvaavaa on sekin, että kaikenkokoiset sydämet vaativat paljon käsityötä.

Heart of the House is a tale of enduring love, a reminder that jewelry has been given and worn for the same reasons from one millennium to the next. At the same time, Heart of the House is a tribute to the new Kalevala House and to those working

there. According to designer Tony Granholm, the ever-moving small heart within the shelter of another heart represents the people in a house who make it come alive. Also emblematic is the fact that hearts of all sizes require a great deal of

craftsmanship.

This jewellery collection draws inspiration from the Viking-age Thor’s hammer pendant. Thor was the Viking god of thunder who used his hammer as a tool of rule and justice. When it thundered, people believed that Thor was riding across the vault of

heaven in his carriage pulled by goats. The blows of his hammer created the peals of thunder and from the sparks of the hammer came lightning. The pendant depicting the hammer became known as the symbol for Thor and it was believed to

protect its carriers from evil. The fearsome Vikings are known to have worn the pendant.

MARKS

Jewelry marking has been part of jewelry manufacturing for a long time. Different markings indicate the time of man-ufacturing, material or manufacturer. Compulsory markings for precious metal products currently sold in Finland are the maker’s mark and the hallmark for silver products that exceed 10 grams and for gold products that exceed 1 gram.

Hallmarks and maker’s marks are put on all precious metal products of Kalevala Jewelry. A year mark is put on the jewelry in the Classic collection. An inspection mark is also put on Kalevala Jewelry’s gold rings. Some jewelry may also be subject to a procedure that is different from those mentioned above.

JEWELRY KNOWLEDGE

The maker’s mark is a mark that the manufacturer has registered for themselves, and with the mark, the manufactur-er can identify and individualise themselves and commit to take liability for the product and its compliance with the requirements. A maker’s mark register is maintained by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency. KK is the maker’s mark of Kalevala Jewelry and products manufactured by us have this mark.

The hallmark indicates the concentration of the precious metal product. With the hallmark and the maker’s mark, the manufacturer guarantees that the concentration of their products is correct. Kalevala Jewelry’s gold jewelry is made of a gold alloy of 18 carats (75% gold, hallmark 750) or of 14 carats (58.5% gold, hallmark 585). Silver jewelry is made of sterling silver (92.5% silver, hallmark 925).

As a result of EU policy, inspection marking has become optional for products that have a maker’s mark on them. Products with an inspection mark have been tested by an independent inspection body in order to continue to ensure that the requirements set for the product are met. The Finnish inspection mark has a picture of a crown on a heart-shaped background.

The year mark indicates the year the piece of jewelry was manufactured, which means that it continues to indicate the time of manufacture after a long time, and of course already upon purchasing. The year mark is a letter/number combination.

RECYCLED GOLD/ SILVER AND ETHICAL PRINCIPLES

Beginning in 2012, Kalevala Jewelry, the largest jeweler in the Nordic countries, will use recycled gold in its ownproduction of gold jewelry and from the beginning of 2015 recycled silver in its own production of silver jewelry.

Environmental awareness and ethical methods are in the core of Kalevala Jewelry’s basic values. When developing its ethical principles of procurement, the company created an operations model for its key raw material suppliers to renew the practices in the sector and improve the transparency within the procurement chain, and the suppliers have committed themselves to it in writing. The operations model takes into account legislation, national and inter-national regulations and agreements, human rights and the basic rights of working life, material safety and high-level business ethics, among others.

Kalevala Jewelry’s own Jewelry Service offers services for the upkeep of jewelry. Our expert staff are happy to serve you at our premises in the Pitäjänmäki district in Helsinki. The maintenance service also includes the repair of old Kalevala Jewelry models. Older jewelry is brought to its former glory showing proper respect for it. The delivery time for repair and maintenance services is approximately 2-4 weeks.

CARE GUIDE

Gold jewelryKalevala Jewelry gold products are made of 14 carat gold. Kalevala Jewelry gold products can be cleaned with special cleaning agents for gold, available in jewelry shops. We recommend regular care for gold jewelry in which the jewelry is cleaned and polished at Kalevala Jewelry Service for a fee, and the setting of the stones is checked.

Bronze jewelryKalevala Jewelry bronze products are manufactured either clear or colored. Bronze is an alloy that consists of copper, tin and zinc, and it typically oxidizes faster than precious metals. The new bronze jewelry all have a protective lacquer coating, which prevents the dark tone, typical to bronze, from dis-coloring skin and delicate light-colored fabrics. This lacquer coating is eroded by various chemicals and it also slowly wears off in use.

We recommend you take off your bronze jewelry for the time you do sports, take a sauna or swim in chlorinated or salt water. Areas where the protective lacquering has worn off may be buffed with a Kale-vala Jewelry polishing cloth. After cleaning your piece of jewelry with a polishing cloth, you should wash the piece in mild soap water so the detergent from the cloth will not stain any of the clothing you wear. If necessary, the protective lacquering can be restored at Kalevala Jewelry Service for a fee.

Silver jewelryKalevala Jewelry silver products are manufactured in sterling silver either clear or colored. The oxidiza-tion typical to silver may be cleaned off with a Kalevala Jewelry polishing cloth. After cleaning your piece of jewelry with a polishing cloth, you should wash the piece in mild soap water so the detergent from the cloth will not stain any of the clothing you wear. The Kalevala Jewelry polishing cloth is not suitable for cleaning any stones set in silver, and we do not recommend silver polish liquids for any of our silver jewelry. Oxidized silver jewelry can be cleaned at Kalevala Jewelry Service for a fee.

Kalevala Jewelry’s bright silver products are finished/protected with the nSILVER® method, which does not prevent but significantly slows down the discoloration of jewelry when showcased in stores. In the nSILVER® method, a very thin coating provides effective protection against air pollution, heat, gases, and chemicals. Coating can be renewed at Kalevala Jewelry Service for a fee.

PearlsThe best piece of advice for those who wear pearls is this: put your pearls on last and take them off first. It is a good idea to wipe your pearls with a clean, soft cloth after each time you wear them. For jewelry with pearls we recommend regular care, for a fee, in which the jewelry is cleaned at Kalevala Jewelry Ser-vice and the stringing of the pearls is checked.

We recommend washing with water, after each use, for all pieces of Kalevala Jewelry. We also recommend that jewelry items be stored in their original packaging.

GEMSTONES: DIAMOND

Every diamond is unique. Diamond is a remarkable natural product with superior hardness, lustre and scintillation in comparison to other gemstones. Diamond is the hardest known natural substance which makes it an excellent symbol of eternal love.

The commercial value of diamonds is determined by quality. Kalevala Jewelry uses the grading system of the Gemo-logical Institute of America. The system has four quality factors: clarity, colour, cut and carat weight.

Diamonds form in the mantle of Earth under an intense temperature and pressure. The forming of a diamond is something of a miracle in itself, and it is very exceptional that a discovered diamond has full clarity. The clarity grade of diamonds used by Kalevala Jewelry is VS (very slightly included).

A diamond having no colour is more of a rarity factor than a quality factor. Totally colourless diamonds are discov-ered only seldom. Most diamonds sold for jewelry purposes have a yellowish tint. The focus is more on colourless-ness than colour. Kalevala Jewelry uses diamonds of grade H (near colourless).

Kalevala Jewelry uses brilliant and princess cut diamonds. Brilliant is the most common diamond cut. Of the four quality factors mentioned above, the quality of the cut has the most extensive impact on the appearance of a diamond. Well-proportioned dimensions, symmetry, polishing and light bring out the best in a diamond. Kalevala Jewelry uses diamonds of excellent cut.

Diamond size is measured in carats (ct). Carat is a metric unit of measurement, and one carat is 0.2 grams. The size range of diamonds used by Kalevala Jewelry is 0.03 – 0.45 ct.

Kalevala Jewelry purchases diamonds from reliable suppliers who have signed the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme. The purpose of the Scheme is to ensure a sufficiently transparent supply chain from the diamond mine to the end consumers and to make sure that an increasing part of the income benefits the well-being of the legal gov-ernments and local people in the countries of production.

MEASURING RINGS AND BRACELETS

On Kalevala Koru rings the size is the inner diameter of the ring in millimeters. The length of the chain bracelets is in centimeters; basic sizes for women are 18.5 cm and 20.5 cm, for men 19.5 cm and 21.5 cm. On solid bracelets the size is the inner diameter in centimeters. Sizes are normally between 5.7 and 6.3.
