Twenty-Fifth Sunday In Ordinary Time

Dear Friends, Today, rather than reflect on the scriptures of the day, I’m going to look ahead to what’s coming this week. And so I ask, “Do you believe in Angels?” I remember as a child being taught that I had a special angel that watches over me…a Guardian Angel. That made me think I was pretty special that God assigned me an angel. Now I believe there are two types of angels, heavenly and human, as I have experienced people who seemed to be God’s special people who care for others. During this week ahead, we will have the opportunity to celebrate angels of both types. Wednesday, September 27th is the Feast of St. Vincent de Paul, who lived in France in the 1600’s, and along with his female counterpart, St. Louise de Marillac, was an ‘angel of mercy’ to the poor, orphaned, and slaves of his time. Their work of showing God’s loving care for the less fortunate was the impetus for the founding of Religious Orders to be out of the cloisters, and in the streets with the people who needed to see God’s love made visible. Seems to me that’s what an angel does…makes God’s Love Visible. We know his work continues to this very day through the Daughters of Charity and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, of which we have our own branch at St. Anthony Parish. The feast of Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, the Archangels comes on September 29th. These are the ‘biggies’ of the heavenly angels and ones we have heard of in Scriptures. Michael is the war-rior of God in the war of the angels, Gabriel the messenger to Mary and Zechariah, and Raphael the guardian and healer in the book of Tobit. These angels as seen in the scripture, are a positive sign that God interacts with His people here on earth. We can be certain we are not alone and celebrate that great love God has for His children by showing His love through messengers from heaven. As we step out into a new week ahead, keep your eyes open for the angels in your life and when you just might be called to be a visible sign of God’s love, an angel to someone else. Remember God thinks all His children are special and that means YOU! May God Bless You,

Donna Schlager Pastoral Asst. for Administration P.S. Have you noticed the different writers for the weekly bulletin letter? Various Pastoral Team members will be sharing this space with Fr. Jack, offering their reflections throughout the year. We hope you enjoy the variety.

Thank you for your generous support last week to the collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development! As a par-ish, we raised $2,192.71 to support those on the margins living in poverty. If you missed the collection, it’s not too late to give! Visit www.usccb.org/nationalcollections and click “How to Give” on the left.

Kick of the Fall Season with an Automated Giving Schedule

To ensure that St. Anthony receives your steady support throughout the year, consider starting an automated giving schedule. Automated contributions provide much needed dona-tion consistency, now and throughout the upcoming holiday season ahead, and during traditionally down months. It’s the easiest, most reliable way to give steady support! To get start-ed, visit www.st-anthony.cc. Go to Give/Serve and click the “Donate” button. Many blessings!

The Standing with Haiti Committee is pleased to announce that we will receive again this year, a Rice Bowl grant of $450, for the purchase of additional kitchen supplies for Ste. Anne’s School in Haiti. With the addition of a 9th grade this year, this gift is a blessing to acquire the needed supplies to prepare and serve meals to their growing school. Thank you for your pray-ers!

DID YOU KNOW YOUR GIFT COULD BE DOUBLED? Many companies MATCH gifts to the Annual Catholic Appeal! Check if your employer has a Matching Gift program and help us maximize our Annual Catholic Appeal Rebate for our parish project. Once your payment has been received OR gift has been paid in full, you can apply for the match per your employer’s instructions. The Annual Catholic Appeal, Archdiocese of Seat-tle, is a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Tax ID # 91-0778147. Call 800-809-4921 if you have any questions. Mailing address: Annual Cath-olic Appeal, PO Box 14964, Seattle 98114 Thank you!

Our Suffering Sisters and Brothers A few weeks ago, we collected for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Little did we know then that there were to be more trials to test our sisters and brothers. Hurricane Irma hit Florida and Hurricanes Jose and Maria are waiting in the Atlantic as this is written. Mexico has endured two different earthquakes in the last weeks. We will not forget the need of those who have been tested. On October 7th & 8th, St. Anthony Parish will have a second collection to help send relief to those in the USA and Mexico, who have suffered from these natural disasters. The money collected will be divided and sent to Catholic Charities for the USA relief and to Catholic Relief Services for the International support. An additional $2000 will be added to each of those totals from the Parish Stewardship-Donations to Others ac-count, to help in these disasters. Please remember to bring ad-ditional money that weekend. Thank you for continuing to give to those with great need. God Bless You!

~HOSPITALITY~

This Saturday, Sept. 30, from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, is your last chance to create your own hand-crafted Christmas lantern or parol. The class will be held in the Fr. Lane Room at the Parish Ministry Center and all materials will be provided. The star-shaped lantern symbol-izes the star that guided the wise men to the baby Jesus, and is a cherished Filipino tradi-tion. During Christmas, it can be seen every-where in the Philippines lighting up the night. Brighten up your home with your own hand-crafted parol this Christmas! Don't forget to bring your lantern to the Sim-bang Gabi Mass on Wednesday, Dec 20th at 7:00 pm, to have it blessed prior to Mass and to join in the entrance procession.

Formed.org is designed to help adults, children and families grow in their faith at all levels – how we think, how we pray, and how we live. Better yet, access is FREE to all St. Anthony parishioners and their families anywhere, anytime on computers, tablets, or phones. Check out the new items!
