SASSA: VROU OOR FOON LEI BEJAARDES OM BOS; MOONTLIK DEEL VAN SINDIKAAT

    Bedrogspul knou oues

    RICHARD ROBERTS

    @richardjohn_rj

n Bejaarde egpaar van Kuilsrivier tel van-

dag onder die talle pensioenarisse wat

weens n bedrogspul armer gelaat is.

gesamentlik R600 minder sal ontvang geld

    wil bly, verlede week vertel.

    Diemanenvrou is tweeondermeer asdui-

sende ander wie se staatspensioen- en toe-

laes vanjaar besteel is.

    skaplike Sekerheid (Sassa) is.

    Volgens die Kuilsrivier-bejaarde is daar

verlede Woensdagmiddag n oproep na hul

huis gemaakenhet n vrouhaar as eneChar-

    datum.

Onwetend verskafmyvrou toe al haar in-

    verskaf.

Hulle het agterdogtig begin raak en het

    VrydagdieKaapsekantore vanSassa gekon-

    so n persoon werk nie.

Ek enmy vrou is nou so gestres oor die

    weer sal gebeur.

man. Die kaarte van albei is gelukkig ver-

    lede Vrydag geblokkeer.

    by n landwye maatskaplike toelae-be-

drogsinidikaat betrokke is.

egpaar in Kuilsrivier se verlies verant-

    woordelik is.Die groephetMaandag saam

met ses ander in die Bellville-landdroshof

    verskyn.

nis geneem is, werknemers by Sasssa is,

bevestig ons siening dat Sassa se stelsel

korrup is. Die slagoffers is mense wat toe-

laes ontvang die samelewing se mees

    kwesbares, s Albert Fritz, provinsiale

    minister vanmaatskaplike ontwikkeling.

    RICHARD ROBERTS

    n

Senior burger van Kuilsrivier is on-

langs uit R15 000 bedrieg glo nadat

    hy n glasbottel met diamantstene

daarin by drie onbekende mans gekoop het.

    klein klippies is.

Volgens kapt. Isaac van Niekerk, Kuilsri-

    vier-polisiewoordvoerder, het die pensioe-

naris op Donderdag 19 Mei eers twee mans

    n saamrygeleentheid vanaf die middedorp

tot in Highbury en Sarepta gegee.

Die mans sou hom R100 betaal vir sy

    barmhartigheid.

Daar het n derde onbekende man hulle

mante daarin begin gesels, vertel VanNie-

    kerk.

    diamante daarin.

Hulle het hom gevra of hy daarin belang

sou stel om dit te koop. Die man het bank

    toe gegaan enkontant getrek.HyhetR15 000

As dit ander persone was, kon hy dalk

    so n persoon werk nie.

Ek enmy vrou is nou so gestres oor die

    weer sal gebeur.

man. Die kaarte van albei is gelukkig ver-

    lede Vrydag geblokkeer.

    by n landwye maatskaplike toelae-be-

drogsinidikaat betrokke is.

egpaar in Kuilsrivier se verlies verant-

    woordelik is.Die groephetMaandag saam

met ses ander in die Bellville-landdroshof

    verskyn.

nis geneem is, werknemers by Sasssa is,

bevestig ons siening dat Sassa se stelsel

korrup is. Die slagoffers is mense wat toe-

laes ontvang die samelewing se mees

    kwesbares, s Albert Fritz, provinsiale

    minister vanmaatskaplike ontwikkeling.

Senior burger van Kuilsrivier is on-

langs uit R15 000 bedrieg glo nadat

    hy n glasbottel met diamantstene

daarin by drie onbekende mans gekoop het.

    klein klippies is.

Volgens kapt. Isaac van Niekerk, Kuilsri-

    vier-polisiewoordvoerder, het die pensioe-

naris op Donderdag 19 Mei eers twee mans

    n saamrygeleentheid vanaf die middedorp

tot in Highbury en Sarepta gegee.

Die mans sou hom R100 betaal vir sy

    barmhartigheid.

Daar het n derde onbekende man hulle

mante daarin begin gesels, vertel VanNie-

    kerk.

    diamante daarin.

Hulle het hom gevra of hy daarin belang

sou stel om dit te koop. Die man het bank

    toe gegaan enkontant getrek.HyhetR15 000

As dit ander persone was, kon hy dalk

    seergekry het.

    AMilnertonwomanwhohadbeenabducted

following a house robbery, survived a gun-

    shot attack this past weekend.

    Mfuleni police spokesperson Captain No-

mathembaMuavha says the victim was ap-

parently thrown out of a vehicle and shot

at in Rotterdam Road near Mfuleni on Sun-

day. A passerby found and assisted her.

    Apparently the 37-year-old womanwas a

victim of a house robbery that occurred in

    the Milnerton police area earlier.

    The victims household contents were

stolen and she was also taken along, says

    Muavha.

Mfuleni police are investigating a case of

    attempted murder.

The police were alerted of the woman at

about 04:00, says Muavha, but no arrests

    have yet been made.

. Police are also investigating a second

attempted murder following an attack on a

man in Nqubelani Street in the Bardale in-

    formal settlement.

    The victimwaswalking with this brother

when two other men walked past them and

one of the men started slapping the victim.

The victimhit back at the attackerwho took

out a firearm and shot him in the abdomen

    as well as the shoulder.

The two unknown men are still at large,

    police say.

. A murder case is also being investigat-

ed by police in the Mfuleni area following

    the stabbing ofman inExtension 6,Mfuleni.

The deceased was walking with his

friend when they started arguing. The one

friend stabbed the other numerous times,

    says Muavha.

    A

    group of former inmates recently

    taught teenagers from Eerste River

    that crime does not pay.

The group, all members of the Prisoners

of Christ Ministry, are former convicts who

take it upon themselves to encourage teens

inmostly impoverished areas to stay on the

    right path.

They recently visited Eerste River Sec-

ondary School and the Axios School of

Skills in Faure. At Eerste River High on 25

May, they again brought hope to learners

and conveyed a message of turning back if

you do the wrong thing, says Kleinvlei po-

    lice spokesperson Captain Florina Muller.

    Ministry members Petrus Hendricks and

his wife Sophia and Willem Adriaan Samu-

els shocked the learners with their stories

about their experiences of a life behind bars

the result of living on the wrong side of

    the law.

The learners listened carefully to every

word this group told them. They were also

provided the opportunity to ask questions.

One learner asked the group what crimes

    theyhad committed andhow long theywere

in jail for. The answer to the question was

that they committed murder and smuggled

firearms for which they were sentenced to

jail for 15 and 17 years, says Muller.

Another learner wanted to knowwhat in-

mates should do if they were assaulted in

prison. The learnerswere told that it could

be reported to the warder in charge, but

once you taste jail life, you will know when

to keep yourmouth shut andwhen to speak.

Your freedom does not count, because there

    are gangs in prisons.

The learners were also taught about the

different types of ranks in these gangs and

told that jail is no place to relax.

The idea, she said, was to tell the learners

that when they join a gang and become a

    criminal, there is no future.

    The ministry reached around 1200

    learners from different grade levels.

The event was organised by the ministry

in conjunction with the police and local

Community Police Forums (CPFs) as part

of the Department of Educations Safer

    Schools project.

    AMilnertonwomanwhohadbeenabducted

following a house robbery, survived a gun-

    shot attack this past weekend.

    Mfuleni police spokesperson Captain No-

mathembaMuavha says the victim was ap-

parently thrown out of a vehicle and shot

at in Rotterdam Road near Mfuleni on Sun-

day. A passerby found and assisted her.

    Apparently the 37-year-old womanwas a

victim of a house robbery that occurred in

    the Milnerton police area earlier.

    The victims household contents were

stolen and she was also taken along, says

    Muavha.

Mfuleni police are investigating a case of

    attempted murder.

The police were alerted of the woman at

about 04:00, says Muavha, but no arrests

    have yet been made.

. Police are also investigating a second

attempted murder following an attack on a

man in Nqubelani Street in the Bardale in-

    formal settlement.

    The victimwaswalking with this brother

when two other men walked past them and

one of the men started slapping the victim.

The victimhit back at the attackerwho took

out a firearm and shot him in the abdomen

    as well as the shoulder.

The two unknown men are still at large,

    police say.

. A murder case is also being investigat-

ed by police in the Mfuleni area following

    the stabbing ofman inExtension 6,Mfuleni.

The deceased was walking with his

friend when they started arguing. The one

friend stabbed the other numerous times,

    says Muavha.

    group of former inmates recently

    taught teenagers from Eerste River

    that crime does not pay.

The group, all members of the Prisoners

of Christ Ministry, are former convicts who

take it upon themselves to encourage teens

inmostly impoverished areas to stay on the

    right path.

They recently visited Eerste River Sec-

ondary School and the Axios School of

Skills in Faure. At Eerste River High on 25

May, they again brought hope to learners

and conveyed a message of turning back if

you do the wrong thing, says Kleinvlei po-

    lice spokesperson Captain Florina Muller.

    Ministry members Petrus Hendricks and

his wife Sophia and Willem Adriaan Samu-

els shocked the learners with their stories

about their experiences of a life behind bars

the result of living on the wrong side of

    the law.

The learners listened carefully to every

word this group told them. They were also

provided the opportunity to ask questions.

One learner asked the group what crimes

    theyhad committed andhow long theywere

in jail for. The answer to the question was

that they committed murder and smuggled

firearms for which they were sentenced to

jail for 15 and 17 years, says Muller.

Another learner wanted to knowwhat in-

mates should do if they were assaulted in

prison. The learnerswere told that it could

be reported to the warder in charge, but

once you taste jail life, you will know when

to keep yourmouth shut andwhen to speak.

Your freedom does not count, because there

    are gangs in prisons.

The learners were also taught about the

different types of ranks in these gangs and

told that jail is no place to relax.

The idea, she said, was to tell the learners

that when they join a gang and become a

    criminal, there is no future.

    The ministry reached around 1200

    learners from different grade levels.

The event was organised by the ministry

in conjunction with the police and local

Community Police Forums (CPFs) as part

of the Department of Educations Safer

    Schools project.

    The accident happened at Melkbos

    RICHARD ROBERTS

Kleinvlei police are investigating a case in

which a 49-year-old woman from Black-

heath was defrauded out of a large sum of

    money a total of R139 300.

    Police spokesperson Captain Florina

Muller said earlier this week this incident,

however, was not the first of its kind they

    have encountered.

According to the police the suspect preys

on single and vulnerable women before

    stealing their hard earned cash.

The suspect allegedly informs the women

    that hewill send themapackage fromCana-

da and that they need to pay for the parcel

    before receiving it.

It is still unclear what the package sup-

posedly contains, as this information was

    omitted from thevictims statement,Muller

    said.

    Shemet the person onlinewho informed

her that hewill sendher aparcel fromCana-

da. During this period she received an

e-mail saying that she can no longer receive

the package unless she pays a certain

    amount of cash.

That was when she started depositing

    the money, Muller said.

According to the police the latest victim

made payments for the package in stages.

She first paid an amount of R2500 into the

bank account provided to her. This was fol-

    lowed bymore paymentswhich included to-

    tals of R25 850, R6 850, R7 850, R17 850,

    R24 850, R19 850, R12 850 and a final amount

of R20 850 paid into the account on Monday

9 May. The bank account used in this case

    is untraceable.

    The investigating officer has confirmed

that there is no name attached to the ac-

    count number provided, Muller said.

    The paymentsweremade betweenFriday

8 April and Monday 9 May.

It is still unclear as to where the suspect

is located. We still do not knowwhether he

is in SouthAfrica or overseas,Muller said.

The person introduced himself as an

agent of the United Nations anti-terrorist

    department.

We want to warn the community to be

aware of such scams, Muller said.

The police said the suspect wins thewom-

ship with his victims before performing the

    fraudulent scam.

Kuils River residents have been urged to

safeguard their wheelie bins and be more

careful when putting it out on refuse collec-

    tion days.

Rather put it out on the day and store it

away as soon as the refuse had been collect-

ed, Logan Frieslaar, chairman of the Vrede-

    lust Neighbourhood Watch, humbly re-

    quested this week.

His request follows the weekend arrest of

two men by the Kuils River police who

caught them in possession of a 240 litre

    wheelie bin containing suspected stolen

    items.

The items were allegedly taken from a

    house inKavalierStreet, Jagtershof, during

    a house break-in incident.

    Neighbourhood watch members stopped

and searched the two men on Saturday 28

May, says Frieslaar. The two men, both 27

years old, were spotted in an open field near

the bush behind Vredelust at about 17:00,

    dragging the wheelie bin.

    The Vredelust team confronted them

and got suspicious when they saw clothes

and numerous items not expected to be in

a bin. The team then found two cellphones,

shoes, cell phone chargers, a flat screen tele-

vision and a hi-fi inside the container,

    Frieslaar said.

The Kuils River police were called out to

the scene. They informed the Vredelust

    teamof thehousebreak-in incident inKava-

lier Street. The police arrested the men and

the stolen were positively identified by the

    owner of the house.

Frieslaar says this sort of crime serves as

a good reason as to why it is important that

    more people join neighbourhood watches.

    RICHARD ROBERTS

Kleinvlei police are investigating a case in

which a 49-year-old woman from Black-

heath was defrauded out of a large sum of

    money a total of R139 300.

    Police spokesperson Captain Florina

Muller said earlier this week this incident,

however, was not the first of its kind they

    have encountered.

According to the police the suspect preys

on single and vulnerable women before

    stealing their hard earned cash.

The suspect allegedly informs the women

    that hewill send themapackage fromCana-

da and that they need to pay for the parcel

    before receiving it.

It is still unclear what the package sup-

posedly contains, as this information was

    omitted from thevictims statement,Muller

    said.

    Shemet the person onlinewho informed

her that hewill sendher aparcel fromCana-

da. During this period she received an

e-mail saying that she can no longer receive

the package unless she pays a certain

    amount of cash.

That was when she started depositing

    the money, Muller said.

According to the police the latest victim

made payments for the package in stages.

She first paid an amount of R2500 into the

bank account provided to her. This was fol-

    lowed bymore paymentswhich included to-

    tals of R25 850, R6 850, R7 850, R17 850,

    R24 850, R19 850, R12 850 and a final amount

of R20 850 paid into the account on Monday

9 May. The bank account used in this case

    is untraceable.

    The investigating officer has confirmed

that there is no name attached to the ac-

    count number provided, Muller said.

    The paymentsweremade betweenFriday

8 April and Monday 9 May.

It is still unclear as to where the suspect

is located. We still do not knowwhether he

is in SouthAfrica or overseas,Muller said.

The person introduced himself as an

agent of the United Nations anti-terrorist

    department.

We want to warn the community to be

aware of such scams, Muller said.

The police said the suspect wins thewom-

ens trust and forms an intimate relation-

ship with his victims before performing the

    fraudulent scam.

    RICHARD ROBERTS

    @richardjohn_rj

Kuils River residents have been urged to

safeguard their wheelie bins and be more

careful when putting it out on refuse collec-

    tion days.

Rather put it out on the day and store it

away as soon as the refuse had been collect-

ed, Logan Frieslaar, chairman of the Vrede-

    lust Neighbourhood Watch, humbly re-

    quested this week.

His request follows the weekend arrest of

two men by the Kuils River police who

caught them in possession of a 240 litre

    wheelie bin containing suspected stolen

    items.

The items were allegedly taken from a

    house inKavalierStreet, Jagtershof, during

    a house break-in incident.

    Neighbourhood watch members stopped

and searched the two men on Saturday 28

May, says Frieslaar. The two men, both 27

years old, were spotted in an open field near

the bush behind Vredelust at about 17:00,

    dragging the wheelie bin.

    The Vredelust team confronted them

and got suspicious when they saw clothes

and numerous items not expected to be in

a bin. The team then found two cellphones,

shoes, cell phone chargers, a flat screen tele-

vision and a hi-fi inside the container,

    Frieslaar said.

The Kuils River police were called out to

the scene. They informed the Vredelust

    teamof thehousebreak-in incident inKava-

lier Street. The police arrested the men and

the stolen were positively identified by the

    owner of the house.

Frieslaar says this sort of crime serves as

a good reason as to why it is important that

    more people join neighbourhood watches.
