UK: Balls to PovertyDESIREÉ RORKE

Some 70 youngsters fromScottsville hadthe time of their lives when a group offootball coaches from Nottingham in

the United Kingdom stopped by for a visiton Friday.

Using the universal language of sportthese 12 FA-trained coaches reached out tothe vulnerable kids at the Eikendal sportgrounds, helping them to unlock their hid-den potential.

The children not only learned basic ballskills, but were inspired by the changes thissport can bring about in their daily lives.

This visit formed part of the annual Ballsto Poverty programme, run by Sports Step-

ping Stones – a non-profit organisation fromthe United Kingdom. The programme hasbeen running in the Western Cape for thepast nine years and continues to grow.

Balls and kitEach year a group of 35 to 50 students from

South Nottingham College in the UnitedKingdom come to South Africa to hand outsoccer balls to disadvantaged communitiesin the Western Cape.

“The programme started in 2004 whenfounder Joe Sorgisen, the then director offootball performance at the South Notting-ham college, visited a Johannesburg town-ship and saw a bunch of children playingfootball, barefooted andwith a bunch of rags

scrunched into a ball,” says co-ordinator Ju-lie Huby.

He bought them a ball, but returned homewith these images burnt into his heart.

A year later he was back with 30 footballs,some football kit he had stored in his houseand a group of students for the first of thesecoaching projects.

Since then the organisation has deliveredcoaching sessions for up to 38 000 young peo-ple and distributed 26 000 footballs and rug-by balls across 32 townships in Cape Town,the Western and the Eastern provinces ofSouth Africa and four slum communities inUganda, bagging thema decoration from theQueen of England.

Amassive new R121 million electricalskills training centre is set to open itsdoors in Brackenfell come April next

year.Funded by the City of Cape Town, con-

struction has already started on the premis-es behind the traffic department and fire bri-gade and the modern building should becomplete by January 2014.A long-time vision of the city, this centre

will finally house all the apprenticeship pro-grammes, which were reinstated by the cityin 2008, training young electricians for a ca-reer in the industry.According to project manager, Warren

Kindo, the first intake in 2014 will accept 100applicants who have completed their insti-tutional training for the two-year long ap-prenticeship. Thereafter, 100 applicants willbe enrolled each year, to double up the ca-pacity.

Trained staff“After completing the apprenticeship the

electricians will work for the City of CapeTown. The city will first train up enoughstaff to satisfy its own need and thereafterwe want to flood the market in the WesternCape with trained electrical personnel,” hesays.The centre will also partner up with Es-

kom in terms of training insofar as different

skills levels are concerned.“The city will handle the lower and medi-

um voltage training while Eskom will takecare of the high voltage,” he says, ensuringa comprehensive cover of training.According to head of training Selwyn

Scholtz, the 4 440 square metre multi-levelbuildingwill house three bigworkshops are-as for practical training and a testing centre.Outside the building there will be an over-

head line training facility between the na-ture reserve and fire station.“We are also planning an outside gym to

ensure our trainees are fit in body andmind,” he says.Hopefuls for this programme will be able

Residents in Northpine are fed-up with anew spate of illegal dumping in their streets,compelling the city to take action.Says ward councillor Grant Twigg: “We

are currently printing thousands of pam-phlets for distribution in the area to informpeople about the aspects of illegal dumping.”Illegal dumping is regulated by city by-

laws and perpetrators can be heavily fined.Twigg has already referred one case to law

enforcement for prosecution and appointedtwo new law enforcement officers who willstart work in the area soon.“In one instance we found the name of the

perpetrator in files anddocuments thatweredumped and we could trace him to hishome,” he said.A new trend is developing by which resi-

dents pay the “trolley men” or “bergies” inthe area a small fee to remove garden rubblefrom their properties.“Surely these residents realise that the

trolley men dump the rubbish illegally?They can’t possibly push it all to the legaldumpsite inKraaifontein,”he concludes em-phatically.

The Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court tem-porarily withdrew the case of drunkendriving against police commanderMosesMamela, pending the outcome of a blood-alcohol report.Mamela, the cluster commander of

Brackenfell, Kraaifontein and Durban-ville police stations, was arrested in con-nection with drinking under the influ-ence in August last year after his Mer-cedes-Benz crashed into another car, inKhayelitsha.The accident took place on the N2 turn-

off between Mew Way and Spine Road inthe direction of Cape Town and Mamelawas released on a warning a few hourslater.At the time of the accident deputy Met-

ro Police chief Yolandi Faro said a MetroPolice officer on the scene of the accidentnoticed thatMemelawasnot stable onhisfeet. Memela, reported admitted to hav-ing “a few glasses,”she said.He was then taken for an alcohol test

at the Shadow testing centre in Athlone

where he was later arrested.He was suppose to appear in court on

the Monday following the incident butthe case inexplicably postponed to Febru-ary this year whereafter it was with-drawn.Captain FC van Wyk from the provin-

cial police’s media office, confirmed thatthe case will be replaced on the court-rollas soon as the relevant report is received.Van Wyk did not respond on the status

quo of an internal investigation.

The City of Cape Town is all systems goto fight the proposedN1-N2WinelandsToll Highway project.

If it gets the go-ahead this project is likelyto leave everyone living along, or using theN1 out of pocket.It lastweek filed anurgent application for

an interdict, which will be heard in theWestern Cape High Court on 16 May.This interdict if granted will provide the

city with an order to prevent Sanral fromtaking any steps towards implementationof the project, pending the review applica-tion by the same court.This review application was brought by

the city on 28 March last year, to seek re-view of the decisions taken by the environ-mental and transportministers to grant au-thorisation for the project; and Sanral whodeclared the highways as a toll road.

ApplicationAccording to Brett Herron, mayoral com-

mittee member for road and transport, thecity has been unable to bring the exchangeof pleadings in the above review applica-tion to a close because Sanral has refusedto provide them with a complete record ofdocuments relevant to the toll road project.This includes how much the project will

cost andwhat toll fees are likely tobe levied.

“As a consequence of this, the city alsobrought an application to compel Sanral todisclose these documents.”This application was instituted against

Sanral on 1 March this year and will, by di-rection of the acting judge president and atthe request of the city’s legal team, be heardat the same time as the city’s urgent inter-dict application on 16 May.

Groundless“Sanral’s notice to the city that it intends

to implement the toll road project was re-ceived on 6March – a few days after the cityinstituted the High Court application tocompel it to provide those documents thatare absent from the record and which San-ral has refused to provide,” says CouncillorHerron.According to him, Sanral gave as the rea-

sons for the sudden need to implement thetoll road project, the need to upgrade andmaintain the roadand toaddress safety con-cerns.“Through our own investigation, those

purported reasons have proven to begroundless and exaggerated,” he adds.“We believe that the true reason for ter-

minating the undertaking is to manufac-ture a situation whereby the time the re-view application is heard the court will bepresented with a fait accompli, as was thecase inGauteng,” saysHerronwhobelieves

that the city’s application to compel the dis-closure of the missing documents triggeredSanral’s notice of implementation.“Despite Sanral’s claims that it is willing

to engage with the city, the facts speak forthemselves. Sanral is a public agencycharged with managing and maintainingSouth Africa’s national road network.“It is our view that Sanral’s refusal to ful-

ly disclose all the relevant information onthe Winelands Toll Road project to the cityand to the residents of Cape Town, placesit in breach of its constitutional duty of ac-countability, responsiveness, openness,transparency and co-operative govern-ance.”

Not legitimateHerron says Sanral has no legitimate rea-

son for withholding any information relat-ing to its decision to toll portions of the N1and N2 or what the impact will be for thepeople of our city and our country.“Its alarmist and exaggerated claims that

the N1 and N2 are in danger of falling apartunless the toll road project is implementedis shocking and opportunistic,” Herronsaid.Reacting to this application Sanral stated

that there is no basis for the city to interdictthem but should it go ahead, they will op-pose the interdict and seek a punitive costsorder against the city.

After the publication of the story “Newname push” in TygerBurger 20 March –advocating a name change for Kraaifon-tein – much public comment was re-ceived, some positive and some negative.Clearly indicating a public interest in

this matter, a string of suggestions fornew names were also put forward – CapeGate City, Brighton Ridge, Ravenzichtand Brighton Mews.Theo Burgess, who initiated the afore-

said article and the recipient of harshcriticism from some quarters, had the fol-lowing response.“The reason for the name change is to

remove a negative stigma. Think of namechanges for places like Tiervlei nowParowValley andVasco nowVrijzee. Theobject of this is for the upliftment and toremove the perception of Kraaifontein ofold,” he says.“This is not about me, it is about our

town. The idea about the name changeproposal is about economic growth andnew investments. Yes, the last 10 yearshave seen slow growth, but nowhere nearto what is happening with our neigh-bours, namely Pinehurst and Uitzichtand again ask yourself why?” he asks andadds that except for Buhrain Develop-ment, big business is currently hesitantto develop in Kraaifontein.

Burgess continues to say that bymeansof his proposal he does not intend to“break down” the integrity of all the goodresidents of Kraaifontein.“My vision is only a positive and pro-

spective outlook for our town.”“Thenamesput forwardby residents in

the TygerBurger, 27 March, were all goodsuggestions. With a good name changeyouwill no longerhavea ‘mental connect’to the previous name and all the connota-tions attached to it.”In a lighter mood and in response to

those who said he must leave town if heis not happy, he says: “I’ve been living in‘Crowstantia’ for 36 years and Iwill neverleave, it’s a great town!”

Children don’t read any more, unless it bethe inconsequential texting jargon on theircellphones or computers.This is a worrisome situation in a coun-

try where illiteracy was found to be thenumber one obstacle in basic education.Motivated by this, the City of Cape

Town’s Library and Information Servicesrecently launched a reading competition tobecome an annual event on the city calen-dar.Bergdal Subcouncil chairperson, Grant

Twigg, has thrown his support in backingthe Eikendal Library. “Many school-goingchildren were found to be unable to read,resulting in them continually failing in thehigher standards,” he says.Its hard to comprehend a Grade 10 or 11

learner being unable to read, but accordingto statistics this happens often as learnerswho never mastered reading in the lowergrades, slip through the system in lateryears.In our ownWestern Cape Schools, Grade

10 and 11 learners who fail twice are nowput through to the next grade by the educa-tion department on appeal.According to Veniwe Robo of the Eikend-

al Library, the aforesaid reading competi-tion was developed by the City of CapeTown’s Library and Information Services

to address the reading challenges in localcommunities.“With this competition we want to sup-

port the reading skills of children and culti-vate a reading culture,” she says.The competition will focus on Grade 7

learners from the surrounding schools.According to Twigg it is at this transi-

tional stage of leaving primary school andentering secondary levels when readingplays in integral part.In round one, each school residing in a

specific library geographical area canenterthe competition in three languages, namelyAfrikaans, English and Xhosa. At theEikendal Library this event will take placeon 23 April.The winners of round one will then take

on winners in other libraries and in roundthree the winners from the district roundwill compete for the inter-district Grade 7reader of the year position.Participants will be expected to read a

part of a book or an article to the best oftheir ability. All three languages will beconsidered in the final round.Participants will be judged on compre-

hension, spelling, presentation and speed.According to Veniwe schools in the area

Watch out for a sisterhood that wants tochange the world for disadvantaged youth.

Society Sistas, headed by Chevon Samu-els and Paula Faria, is an organisation ofyoung people getting together to make a ma-jor difference in the lives of young peopleat risk.

Samuels explained that a chance meetingof the two of them as adults made them real-ise that although, as children, they grew upin different “societies” they shared a pas-sion to help those less fortunate.

“We realised that there were so manyyoung people out there, from different com-munities, who have dreams that could bedestroyed by circumstance,” she said.

“We know there are many like us hopingand praying for a chance to make someone’slife much brighter and happier by havinga profound impact on them to make somesort of change in those that are less fortu-nate. That is why we started working to-gether to make that change happen.”

When these two friends identified theirpassion for reaching out they put that pas-sion into action by forming the group tomake that difference for those at risk in pov-

erty, abuse and hunger.For some time now they both accom-

plished extensive work in different commu-nities with the help of friends who sharetheir passion in those communities.

Their current projects consist of commu-nity outreach in Mfuleni, Atlantis, Philippifarm households, Eureka Estate, localchurches, creches and senior citizenprojects.

“While many of our project involve longterm plans, there are immediate actionsthat we do to make a difference in the livesof youngsters in disadvantaged areas,” ex-plained Samuels.

“These include taking children to a res-taurant, like we are doing today, or to amovie, to the beach or a picnic, but it’s justsomething to show them that there are peo-ple out there who care for them and wantthem to succeed in life.”

Balloonman makes soft landing

He came, he soared, he tinkered.The ever optimistic Matt Silver-Vallance

attempted the ludicrous stunt to drift calmlyfrom Robben Island westward to the coastwhile being attached to 160 helium-filled bal-loons on Saturday.He drifted, but not particularly calmly.Matt’s pellet gun wasn’t powerful enough

to pop the balloons in order to descend...Thankfully Bob Dylan was right when hesang: “The answer, my friend, is blowing inthe wind”.This answerwas tomanually drag the bal-

loons closer towards him whilst airborne sothat he could pierce them by using a make-shift long handled knife.If not for this, Matt might still be drifting,

probably somewhere above the IndianOcean.The flight, which has been planned for

nigh on four years, was organised to raiseR10 million towards the building of the Nel-son Mandela Children’s Hospital in Gau-teng.There was no fixed date for the stunt, but

last week Thursday the team got the go-ahead for the Saturdaywhen it was forecast-ed that a gentle wind would blow in a north-easterly direction and that it wouldn’t startraining.That morning the wind blew in a south-

easterly direction and the mist and rain al-most spoiled the party.Of course, the weatherman was nowhere

to be seen.In a perfect world Matt was supposed to

land just beyond the breakers at Eden on theBay, but the cantankerous wind instead car-ried him to Sunset Beach – more than anhour after he lifted off from Robben Islandat 11:45.The social network, Twitter, was both a

blessing and a curse for those who had ac-cess to it.Some 20 minutes before he touched down

it was tweeted that Matt is heading towardsSunset Beach.An army of journalists and photographers

raced to their vehicles and were stuck intraffic until the tweet came through thatMatt has landed andwill head towards Edenon the Bay with the boat crew.This news was greeted with several exas-

perated u-turns on Marine Drive.At long-last Matt arrived at Eden on the

Bay on a rubber motorboat.Fervent journalists – armedwith cameras,

notebooks and voice recorders – flockedaround the visibly drained “Balloonman”.Matt confirmed at that moment that he

will not be answering any questions beforethe de-briefing in half-an-hour...The tease!TygerBurger’s pre-flight interview with

him, which was printed in last week’s TableView and Milnerton editions, stated that hewould be using the “best bb gun in theworld” to shoot the balloonswhen he neededto descend.Patience was never my forté, so I jumped

the gun, introduced myself and asked Matthow the best bb gun in the world worked forhim.He put his arm around my shoulder and

said: “Dude! It didn’t! That bb gunwas stolenfrom me on Friday night!”Suffice to say he didn’t want to elaborate.It was later revealed that at his highest

point during the flight,Matt soared 1 000me-tres above sea level, before landing 300 me-tres offshore from Sunset Beach, MouillePoint.Says Matt: “After lift-off, I soon realised

that thiswas not a scene out of amovie – thiswas serious.“The fairytale landing that we had envi-

sioned where I would drift gently down infront of the crowds at Eden on the Bay didn’tmaterialise. I am, however, overjoyed thatwe managed to successfully complete themission.”With the “Balloon Run” completed, the

Waterweek: Die Afrikaanse Taalmonument het op Dinsdag 19 Maart in samewerking metCapeNature ’n spesiale opvoedkundige program ter viering van internasionale waterweekaangebied. a total of 98 cars at five differ-ent stop streets and found thatonly one car actually stopped.At four-way stop streets thecars stopped only if there werecars at the other stop streets,but did not stop if the otherstop streets were clear. Thismeans that 99 % of drivers donot stop at stop streets.There is an enormous differ-

ence between not stopping at astop street, and driving atspeed through a stop street.This should not be confused.Enforcing drivers to stop at

stop streets will not eliminatedriving-through accidents.

Three young and aspiring artists, all learn-ers of Parow North Primary School, havebeen selected to showcase their talent in thenew international production of Verdi’sOtello.The production has been on the planks at

the Opera House, Artscape since 6 April andruns until 13 April.Tenille Cannon (13), Nicole Smith (12) and

Jessica Arendse (12), all Grade 7 learners atthe school, have among the three of themshown great interest in singing, dancing,modelling, making music and acting for thepast five years.The three girls are best friends, have huge

and bubbly personalities and they do every-thing together, which included respondingto TygerBurger’s questions in chaotic har-mony.“We sing in our school choir and we have

danced together before, but nothing comesclose to this experience. Otello is truly anawesome, amazing and spectacular experi-ence,” says Tenille.“This (the Otello production) is a much

bigger stage and you have a huge audienceof about 1 500 people who are watching youperform,” says Jessica.“We are using our voicesmuch differently

than what we do singing at school,” addsNicole.In this dramatic and gripping production,

the girls are part of agroup of 15 children, withan overall cast of about100 people.“We play the roles of

poor flower sellers, whilewe are singing an Italiansong that we had to learn.“And we have to wear

the weirdest clothes,” saythe girls laughing.According to the girls,

they have been selectedby their choir teacher onrequest from the choirmaster at the Artscape forthe cast of Otello.“We had auditions in

February and immediately started rehears-ing for Otello. We had our final dress re-hearsal on Thursday night (last week), infront of an audience that included our par-ents and high school learners in their schooluniforms who are doing Otello as part oftheir curriculum,” says Jessica.The girls say, although the production is

about three hours long, they only had a cur-tain call of about two minutes.“It is short, but so worth it all. The re-

hearsals, adrenaline rush and the nerves be-fore going on stage... It’s just an awesomefeeling,” says Tenille.In synchronisedharmony the girls all sing

about their cool dressing room. “We evenpitch an hour earlier for rehearsals just to

hang out and have fun and dance in ourdressing room. It has cool lights, mirrorsand a stunning view,” says Tenille.The future looks bright for these “three

stooges”, as they are lovingly called by theirfamily and friends because they are insepa-rable. They all have big dreams for the fu-ture.Tenille would like to be a singer or doctor

one day, while Nicole wants to be a singerand model.“I would like to be a film or music produc-

With the City of Cape Town’s Liquor Tra-ding Days and Hours bylaw having come in-to effect this month, the city’s Liquor Enfor-cement Unit conducted focused operationslast Wednesday night.

The unit inspected 67 off-consumption pre-mises in Goodwood, Parow, Bellville, Dur-banville, Kuils River and Brackenfell. Of thepremises inspected, 63 were found to be com-pliant with the bylaw.

Four written warnings were issued to es-tablishments for not complying with the tra-

ding hours stipulated, as per their location.Through operations like this, the city

seeks to educate liquor licence holders aboutthe stipulations of the bylaw to ensure thatthey operate legally. There is a focus on issu-ing warnings and fines before taking moredrastic action, so that establishments are gi-ven an opportunity to rectify any faults. TheLiquor Enforcement Unit will continue toconduct inspections and create awarenessaround the bylaw in residential and busi-ness areas across Cape Town.

The City of Cape Town’s Liquor TradingDays and Hours Bylaw came into effect on1 April. Anyone trading in liquor must the-refore abide by the new trading hours from1 April, regardless of their type of licence.

Communication with stakeholdersThis comes after extensive communicati-

on and engagement with a range of stakehol-ders about how best to oversee the hours wit-hin which liquor may be sold in the city.

The default trading hours for the sale ofliquor on licensed premises in the bylaw is02:00, but premises can apply for an extensi-on until 04:00. This exemption only appliesto licensed premises in areas that are zoned

for business or industrial use.This exemption was specifically created to

ensure that traders who operate in promi-nent entertainment districts that are correc-tly zoned are not limited to the default tra-ding hours.

Requirements outlined in the bylaw:V The implementation of revised trading

hours for the sale of liquor for consumptionon licensed premises (such as restaurants,bars and clubs).

V The implementation of revised tradinghours and a Sunday prohibition for the saleof liquor from licensed premises (such asshops and bottle stores).V Visit www.capetown.gov.za.

Keen sport and game lovers who never hadan opportunity to shine on a bigger stagegot together at the Theo Marais Sport Com-plex on Friday to compete against one an-other.

Competitors from areas such as Du Noon,Milnerton, Joe Slovo Park, SummerGreens, Maitland and Atlantis kicked, hitand threw balls, moved checkers, chesspieces and scrabble letters, jumped overand questioned one another.

More than a 1 000 people arrived at theDistrict 1 Games Day, which was organisedby the City of Cape Town’s Department ofSport and Recreation and the District 1sport council (DSC).

These two bodies also provided snacksand cooldrink for the participants lastweek.

Chairperson of DSC James Mills, elabo-rates on the format: “Each division in the

district has its own games and then the bestare selected to compete in District 1’sgames, which was held on Friday. The bestof these teams will then compete against theother five districts on 27 April – most likelyin Kraaifontein. Then the best team in eachcode will be selected.”

The objective of the games is to encouragemass participation and physical activityamongst our youth, to showcase some of theactivities at recreation hubs and communi-ty centres, to create an opportunity for ouryouth to participate in an organised compe-tition, to create an opportunity to interactwith other communities and to promote in-ter hub/centre competitions.

for some time, received an honorary hon-ours lifetime achievement award from theSouth African Wrestling Federation.“From the moment I started amateur

wrestling I fell in love with the sport. Ittaught me a great deal about life. About per-severance, respect for yourself and others,”James said.His career started under the guidance of

coach Hansie Theunissen at the Queens-burgh Wrestling Club in Durban.

Determined“I was wrestling for three years without

a win, I just couldn’t get that first win underthe belt. It just made me more determinedto work harder,” he said.“I will never forget that day I wonmy first

match. It was also the first match my momwasable towatchmeon themat.When Iwonthe feeling was indescribable. Needless tosay it was even more special sharing it withmy mother.”James went on to become a Natal champi-

on.He represented Natal for many years in

various capacities from juniorwrestler, sen-ior wrestler, coach, official, secretary, treas-urer and head coach.In 1982 a new chapter began right here in

Cape Town, Parow to be more exact, wherehe was until 2005 part of Western Provincewrestling.In 1984 he was the founder of the Parow

Swakdissipline,wat ondermeer tot drie geel kaar-te gelei het, het Belhar die wedstryd gekos,terwyl ’n goeie laat aanslag deur Tygerberghomnet-net van ’n oorwinningweerhouhet.In die B-afdeling het Hands & Heart ’n goeiewegspring gehad deur Villager 26-16 te kou,en Kuilsrivier het behoorlik op loop gegaanin sywedstryd teenGoodwoodom ‘nweghol-sege van 60-5 te behaal. Die Kuile het negedrieë ingeryg. Brackenfell het 3-20 in die stofgebyt teen Primrose.

Durbell nou eenvan SA se bestes

Kampioenspan: Die Laerskool Eversdal se o.12-krieketspan het die Laerskool Kenridgeonlangs in die eindronde van ’n ses aan ’n kant-toernooi geklop. Hier is (van links) WynandWessels, Charl Hesse, Tiaan Visser, Keenan Opperman, Wilhelm van der Merwe (kaptein),Juan Lambrechts, Marais Schutte en Rynardt Bester. Agter is Gary du Toit, hul afrigter.

Twee vroue-atlete van die Tygerberg-omge-wing het skitterend vertoon in die pas afge-lope TwoOceans-ultramarathon en -halfma-rathon.Ten spyte van ’n baie sterkwind het Elma-

rie Coetzee (49) die ultramarathon oor 56 kmin ’n uitstekende tyd van 4:24:27 afgelê.Sy het vierde in die veterane-afdeling ge-

eindig enalgeheel 27ste indie vroueafdeling.Sy was ook algeheel die vierde vinnigste

WP-vroue-atleet. Dit was haar eerste ultra-marathon.Die beste vertoning in die halfmarathon is

deur Ulrica Stander (38) gelewer.Sy het teen baie sterk kompetisie meege-

ding en algeheel 14de geëndig in ’n tyd van1:21:16.Sy was ook die tweede WP-atleet oor die

lyn.Beide Elmarie en Ulrica word deur Riël

Hauman afgerig en albei is lede van die NewBalance-multisportklub.’nTotaal van 8 209 atletehet dieultramara-

thon voltooi, terwyl 13 743 atlete die halfma-rathon klaargemaak het.Die ultramarathon is gewen deur David

Gatebe van Rustenburg in ’n tyd van 3:08:54,terwyl die vroue-afdeling gewen is deur dieRussiese atleet, Natalia Volgina, in 3:38:38.

Vroue blink uit in Two Oceans

Elmarie Coetzee (49) is op pad na die eind-streep in die Two Oceans-ultramarathon.

Verteenwoordig SA: Marno Stander van die Privaatskool Curro is vanjaar weer gekies virdie Suid-Afrikaanse skole-tennisspan, wat van 25 November tot 10 Desember in Maleisiëdeelneem. Die toernooie daar is nog nie gefinaliseer nie.

Beste gevaarV De Kuilen het die beste gevaar van die

Tygerbergse o.19-spanne, wat verlede weekaan die Tony Stoops African Bank-toernooiin Parow deelgeneem het. Die Kuile het on-der meer met 21-15 met Despatch afgereken.

Die HS Tygerberg is met oorwinnings inal drie wedstryde by die Bizsport-saamtrekin Durban as die span van dié toernooi aan-gewys. Die Tiere het in hul laaste wedstryddie span van Landbouskool Merensky (Tza-neen) 73-0 kafgedraf. Stellenberg het by die-selfde toernooi twee wedstryde gewen.
