Police foiled an attempted armed robbery inKraaifontein last week.“At about 11:10 on Tuesday morning,

members of theCapeTown flying squad anddog unit received a tip-off concerning aplanned robbery,” says Lieutenant ThembiGwe, spokesperson of the Kraaifontein poli-

ce station.Two vehicles were about to drive into the

premises of local company SA Metal in In-dustrial Road for an armed robbery.“On following up on the information,

occupants of both the vehicles jumped outand ran away. Police gave chase and arre-sted all six the suspects. Upon preliminaryinvestigation police found a 9mm pistol inone of the vehicles. Both the vehicles werereported stolen last month.”The suspects were charged with possessi-

motion to the City’s health portfolio,requesting funding to build additio-nal consultation rooms where TB/HIV patients can be served.Funding was made available in

the following year, and earlier thisyear notable refurbishments weredone at the clinic.“I am pleased to say that apart

Die 2 km-verlengingspad wat Okavang-oweg met Wellingtonweg verbind, is verle-de Dinsdagoggend amptelik deur wyks-raadslid Gerhard Fourie geopen.Die projek het belastingbetalers sowat

R43 miljoen uit die sak gejaag.“Die opening van die pad is met sowat

Ingevolge artikel 49(1)(a)(i) van die Wet op Plaaslike Regering: Munisipale Eiendomsbelasting, Wet 6 of 2004, hierna die “Wet” genoem, worddaar hiermee kennis gegee dat die sewende aanvullende waardasielys (SV07) van die 2012- algemene waardasielys vir die 2015/16-boekjaarvanaf 21 Julie 2015 tot 31 Augstus 2015 vir die publiek by die lokale hieronder ter insae lê. Eiendomme word ingevolge artikel 78(1) van die Wet op die sewende aanvullende waardasielys (SV07) van die 2012- algemene waardasielysgeplaas indien dit: a) foutiewelik uit die waardasielys gelaat is; b) na die laaste algemene waardasie by die munisipaliteit ingesluit is; c) na dielaaste algemene waardasie onderverdeel of gekonsolideer is; d) ’n wesenlike toename of vermindering in markwaarde ondergaan het sedertdie laaste algemene waardasie; e) in die laaste algemene waardasie aansienlik verkeerd gewaardeer is; f) om enige ander buitengewone redeherwaardeer moet word; g) waarvan die kategorie verander het.

Ingevolge artikel 49(1)(a)(ii) van die Wet kan enige eiendomsbesitter of ander persoon wat wil binne die gemelde tydperk ’n beswaar bydie munisipale bestuurder indien oor enige saak wat op die waardasielys verskyn of daaruit weggelaat is. Besware kan slegs ten opsigte vaneiendomme wat op die SV07-lys gewaardeer is, ingedien word. Die eienaars van hierdie eiendomme sal skriftelik van hul SV07-waardasies inkennis gestel word by die posadres wat tans op die Stad se databasis is.

Aandag word spesifiek gevestig op die feit dat ’n beswaar ingevolge artikel 50(2) van die Wet met ’n spesifieke, individuele eiendom verbandmoet hou en nie teen die aanvullende waardasielys as ’n geheel ingedien kan word nie. Die vorms vir die indiening van besware is by die lokalehieronder genoem beskikbaar en kan van die webwerf afgelaai word. ’n Afsonderlike beswaarvorm moet vir elke eiendom ingevul word.

The City of Cape Town proposes the construction of a pilot scale pyrolysis plant at the existingKraaifontein IntegratedWaste Management (IWM) Facility, located off Sandringham Street. The project focus is theconversion of plastic waste into a biofuel bymeans of the pyrolysis process. The plastic waste will be recovered fromthe tailings of the existingKraaifontein IWMFacility. The plastic wastewill then go through a pyrolysis process, wherepressure and high temperatures are used to chemically convert the waste plastic into light-grade heating oil. Theproduct (oil) will then be stored or used for on-site equipment.

The Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning: Directorate AirQuality Management has granted the City of Cape Town an Atmospheric Emissions Licence for the proposedconstruction and operation of a pilot scale pyrolysis plant at the City of Cape Town Kraaifontein Integrated WasteManagement Facility in terms of theNational EnvironmentalManagement:AirQualityAct, 2004 (ActNo. 39 of 2004).

Acopy of theAtmospheric Emissions Licence can be obtained fromResourceManagement Services.

AnAppeal may be lodged against the decision in accordance with Regulation 4 of the NationalAppeal Regulations 2014 to the appeal administrator, within 20 (twenty) calendar days from the date of thisnotification.

A decision by the Cape High Court lastweek, declared garnishee orders madefrom thewages of employees unconstituti-onal.“This a great victory for workers that

have for the longest time been subjectedto the most vicious exploitation throughemolument attachment orders issued bythe courts in respect of the amounts ofmo-nies that employers are ordered to deductfrom their wages,” said provincial secre-tary of Cosatu in the Western Cape, TonyEhrenreich in a media statement lastweek.According to Ehrenreich the poorest of

the poor at times had to sacrifice their en-tire salaries to such garnishee orders.

“Declaringmany sections of the law un-constitutional stops these kinds of deduc-tions, which have really seen companiesplunging workers into destitutionthrough these emolument orders. Thisshould serve as a lesson to debtors whogrant ill considered credit to workers, inviolation of national credit regulationsthat are meant to protect vulnerable sec-tors of the community,” he stated.He called on workers to become aware

of the rights that they now have in respectof this judgement.“Cosatu would like to see the courts ur-

gently defining the maximum amountthat can be deducted from workers wagesby these types of orders in the future.”

KennySolomon,markedhis return to com-petition on South African soil, which wasalso his first tournament onhome soil afterofficially receiving the title of grandmasterearlier this year.Solomon, originally from Mitchell’s

Plain and a previous winner of the tourna-ment, placed fourth in this year’s tourna-ment with a score of 8.5.“It was a tough tournament with a lot of

strong players. I am happy that we wereable to have four grandmasters participat-ing this year,” he says.“It is important that foreign grandmas-

ters participate in South African chessevents – this is how chess can grow in ourcountry.”The tournament also incorporated the

SA schools individual chess champion-ship. The championship saw some of thebest junior players in the country come upagainst each other.Former national junior team coach Cal-

vin Klaasen believes young players have

an opportunity tomake a career of thegame if the support shown at the SAOpen continues to grow.“It’s important for young players to

identify with heroes, to have some-thing to strive for.“There are limited opportunities

for young players in South Africa toprogress to a professional level at themoment, but that can change if we aresupported correctly. Kenny’s grand-master title is just step one in SouthAfrica becoming a powerful chesscountry,” he says.Solomon, who now lives in Italy, be-

Short emerged victorious at the end of the11-round event. He gained the title basedon a tie-break system, after ending on ninepoints alongside grandmaster AleksaStrikovic from Serbia and India’s grand-master Abhijit Kunte.Short has been playing with the best

since he became a grandmaster at age 19.He was regularly placed in the top ten inthe world between the late 1980s and late1990s.He became the first English player to

play for the World Chess Championship ti-tlewhenheplayed againstGarryKasparovin 1993.Solomon will next travel to Gauteng

along with Short to play in a qualifier forone of the biggest chess tournaments in theworld taking place in Las Vegas.

The inaugural Cape TownCup will set the MotherCity alight with two inter-

The City of Cape Town has an-nounced that the Cape TownCup soccer tournament will seehost team Ajax Cape Town wel-come Portuguese team SportingClub de Portugal as well asCrystal Palace FC and Super-Sport United at the Cape TownStadium on 24 and 26 July.

The first game on Friday,which kicks off at 17:45, will seeSuperSport United FC taking onCrystal Palace.

Following shortly after this at20:15 will see Ajax Cape Townand Sporting go head to head.Sunday’s action will start at13:00 with the losers of Friday’sdouble headers challengingeach other.

The final, at 15:30, will be con-tested between the winners ofthe games played on Friday.

There will be a penalty shoot-out to decide the champion,should there be a tie after regu-
