    SUNY Ulster Milestones

    1961 Public referendum establishes Ulster County Community College.

    1963 Classes begin Sept. 23, 1963 at temporary campus in Kingston in the former Ulster Academy at 214 West

    Chestnut Street.

    1965 College graduates first class of 48 students. SUNY Ulsters First President Dale B. Lake presides.

    1965 Construction begins for Stone Ridge campus.

    1967 Stone Ridge campus opens with Macdonald DeWitt Library, Burroughs, Hasbrouck and Clinton buildings.

    1967 - George B. Erbstein named second president and serves until 1974. Joins SUNY Ulster from Orange County

    Community College.

    1969 SUNY Ulster Continuing and Professional Education started.

    1970 College receives initial accreditation by Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association of

    Colleges and Schools.

    1972 Senate Gym, Hardenbergh, Vanderlyn and Algonquin buildings added to Stone Ridge campus.

    1974 Robert T. Brown named third president, having served as Dean of Administration and Financial Officer since1965.

    1976 Ulster Community College Foundation established with initial assets of $70,000.

    1984 - Muroff Kotler Visual Arts Gallery dedicated for Ruth Muroff Kotler, a founding faculty member, first chair of the

    visual arts department and the first gallery director.

    1985 College initiates hosting the Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center.

    1993 Student Life Center, Hardenbergh Science Wing and Learning Center added to campus.

    1995 Business Resource Center opened in Kingston.

    1997Barbara A. Adams named as the colleges fourth president and serves until 2000 .

    2000 Construction begins adding the Ulster Savings Bank Community Conference Center in Clinton Hall, the Hasbrouck

    Technology Wing and the expansion of the Macdonald DeWitt Library.

    2001 Dr. Donald C. Katt inaugurated as fifth president. President Katt began his SUNY Ulster career as Director of

    Student Activities in 1968 and also served as Director of Institutional Advancement, Dean of Institutional Advancement,

    Dean of Instruction and Vice President and Dean of Faculty, among other positions.

    2005 College launches its International Studies Program.2006 Quimby Theater renovated.

    2011 Darlene L. Pfeiffer Center for Entrepreneurial Studies opens. SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher attends dedication

    ceremony.

    2011 Through grants obtained from the NYS Energy Research & Development Authority renovation begins on The

    Kelder buildingthe original structure on the campuss 165 acres -- to transform it into The Center for Building Scienceand Advanced Technology; set to open fall 2013.

    2013 Dedication of the Gary and Janaki Patrik Math Center on Stone Ridge Campus.

    2013 Dedication of the Battle Buddy Center for active and retired military students on campus.

    2013 College partners with SUNY Oswego to establish a permanent biological research station in Brazil.

    Statistics of Note

    More than 20,000 degrees have been awarded in the colleges history . The cost for tuition was $150 a semester when the college opened. Original faculty and staff was 29 in 1963 to 400 full and part-time employees today. From starting with eight degree programs, the college has expanded to offer 64 programs. 70 percent of SUNY Ulster students enroll in transfer programs. Since 1969, 800-plus non-credit courses have been offered through Continuing and Professional Education, 30

    professional certificate programs offered and 250,000 students enrolled.

    The Mid-Hudson Small Business Development Center, hosted at SUNY Ulster, has helped create/save 15,068jobs, assisted nearly 6,000 small business owners and helped produce $ 565,603,093 in economic impact ; SBDC

    staff have received 22 awards for excellence in performance since 1985, including the 2013 SBA New York City

    District SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award.

    Ulster Community College Foundation awards more than $170,000 in scholarships annually; Foundation hasawarded more than $3 million to more than 5,000 students since inception; assets stand at almost $7 million to

    date.

    SUNY Ulster contributes more than $84 million dollars annually to the Ulster County economy in direct andindirect spending.

    The College is one of Ulster Countys largest employers with a $13 million dollar payroll .
