WHY WE HAVE ITAt jmss, we have this framework to ensure that each student develops the necessary life skills to succeed in life outside of school. It helps students learn to know, learn to be, learn to do and learn to live together. These skills form to make up a well rounded student that can tackle any challenge.

LEARN TO KNOWThis pillar is focused on building students who can ask effective questions and use resources efficiently. It helps build us into students that can conduct research collaboratively, on our own and make use of the information we gather. It encourages us to think outside the box and reflect on our own learning so that we can improve ourselves. Learning to know is an important pillar as it aids in developing new skills which will help us adjust to changes or unforeseen events later in life.

LEARN TO BEThe learning to be pillar is focused on building good people that have learnt to conduct themselves in a well-rounded manner and have acquired a broad range of attributes. These attributes include being optimistic, courageous, passionate, balanced, independent, confident and aspirational.

These characteristics help them achieve their personal best in everything they do. We can study issues from all points of view and act honestly and ethically when making decisions. Outside of school this pillar will ensure that we develop into good people.

LEARNING TO DOThe pillar, learning to do is orientated around creating learners who are adaptable. It teaches us to live with change and to embrace it, we are effective communicators and listeners able to collaborate effectively with the people around us. We are persistent and work through challenges unaffected by distractions. We focus on developing the necessary abilities to further ourselves in specific areas of learning.

These skills will help us to work effectively with co-workers and to work to the best of our ability in order to succeed.

LEARNING TO LIVE TOGETHERFor some people building relationships and working with other people is challenging. This pillar ensures that when students from John Monash leave school they can form strong relationships in the work place or in higher levels of education. As learners we are taught equality and to treat everyone with respect. We value everyone’s opinion and take into account other peoples point of view when making decisions. We celebrate diversity

and embrace all cultures. These are very helpful skills in life as you may not get along with everyone, but being able to work with these people is important as you can collaborate and complete what is required.

CONCLUSIONTogether these four pillars provide a framework which builds students into mature people who can succeed in every aspect of life. With the skills from these pillars put into practice we can overcome any challenge we may face in the near or distant future.
