Year  in  Review  –  Answer  Guide

Reflection  Defined

To        consider      or  ponder  the  former  things  for  the  purpose  of  _learning_,  development,  &  _maturity_    -‐  to  inspect  or  scrutinize,  to  observe,  test,  or  investigate  [II  Pet  3:18]

Key  Scripture:  But  be  ye      doers        of  the  word,  and  not  hearers  only,  deceiving  your  own  selves.  23  For  if  any  be  a  hearer  of  the  word,  and  not  a  doer,  he  is  like  unto  a  man  beholding  his  natural  face  in  a  glass      (mirror):  24  For  he  beholdeth  himself,  and  goeth  his  way,  and  straightway  forgetteth  what  manner  of  man  he  was.  25  But  whoso    looketh_  into  the  perfect  law  of  liberty,  and    continueth        therein,  he  being  not  a  forgetful  hearer,  but  a  doer  of  the  work,  this  man  shall  be  blessed  in  his  deed.  (James  1:22-‐25)

The  word  of  God  is  our  _MIRROR__

King  Josiah  –  An  example  of  not  looking  in  the  mirror

Read  II  Kings  22:8-‐13

for  great  is  the  wrath  of  the  Lord  that  is  kindled  against  us,  because  our  fathers  have  not  hearkened  unto  the  words  of  this  book,  to  do  according  unto  all  that  which  is  written  concerning  us.  (v13)

Not  continually  looking  in  the  mirror  (the  Word)  will  cause  us  to  DEVIATE  from  God’s  expected  end  (Jer  29:11)

Importance  &  Benefits

1.  Value  the  precious  gift  of  time  –  Eph  5:16

2.  It  helps  you  learn  from  your    mistakes  .  If  we  don’t  reflect  on  our  mistakes,  we  are  doomed  to  repeat  them.  –  Read  Jer  3:7-‐8

3.  Gives  creative  ideas  for  Change

4.  Positions  you  to  help          others.  –  I  Tim  4:16

5.  Positions  you  to  fully      maximize          the  gifts  that  God  has  given  –  II  Tim  4:6-‐8,  Matt  25:14-‐30

• Withdraw  from  Busyness  -‐  But  so  much  the  more  went  there  a  fame  abroad  of  him:  and  great  multitudes  came  together  to  hear,  and  to  be  healed  by  him  of  their  infirmities.  And  he  withdrew  himself  into  the  wilderness,  and  prayed.  (Luke  5:15-‐16)

• The  Sabbath  -‐  But  the  seventh  day  is  the  sabbath  of  the  Lord  thy  God:  in  it  thou  shalt  not  do  any  work…  For  in  six  days  the  Lord  made  heaven  and  earth,  the  sea,  and  all  that  in  them  is,  and  rested  the  seventh  day:  (Exod  20:10-‐11)  /  Six  days  may  work  be  done;  but  in  the  seventh  is  the  sabbath  of  rest,  holy  to  the  LORD:  whosoever  doeth  any  work  in  the  Sabbath  day,  he  shall  surely  be  put  to  death.  (Exod  31:15)

o Kill  him  for  not  RESTING!

•    Meditation      o This  book  of  the  law  shall  not  depart  out  of  thy  mouth;  but  thou  shalt  meditate  therein  day

and  night,  that  thou  mayest  observe  to  do  according  to  all  that  is  written  therein:  for  then  thou  shalt  make  thy  way  prosperous,  and  then  thou  shalt  have  good  success.  (Josh  1:8)

o But  his  delight  [is]  in  the  law  of  the  LORD;  and  in  his  law  doth  he  meditate  day  and  night.  (Psalm  1:2)

 • Question  in  the  Bible

o Where  are  You?  (Gen  3:9)  -‐  What  Will  It  Profit  a  Man?  (Matt  16:26)  -‐  Who  Do  You  Say  I  Am?  (Mark  8:29)  -‐  What  is  This  You  Have  Done?  (Gen  3:13)  -‐  How  shall  we  escape,  if  we  neglect  so  great  salvation?  (Heb  2:3)

Dangers  of  not  Reflecting

1. Busy  but  not  _productive_  –  Read  Exod  18:17-‐18,  Exod  18:13-‐24  2. Bury  gifts  &  talents,  underperform,  average  –  Matt  25:23-‐26  3. Incur    unnecessary      consequences  /  repeat  same  mistakes  –  Read  I  Cor  10:5-‐7,  Matt  7:21-‐23  /  Ecc

7:17  4. Lack  of  focus  –  Acts  6:4  5. Don’t  impact  others  –  I  Tim  4:16
