The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in US decreased over the month to 8.5 percent in December 2011 from a revised 8.7 percent in November 2011 and was below the rate of 9.4 one year ago.
The root causes of unemployment are mainly two aspects, firstly, because of the financial crisis, resulting in relative surplus of labor, then aggregate demand and production shrink, workers lose their jobs; Secondly, the unemployment is structural unemployment, and workers are lack of skills, confidence, social network and experience and they can not find suitable jobs.
