Ms. L. Johnson and many CMES students recently attended a lecture at LSU: “Solar eclipses are awesome, beautiful, and great science” with Dr. Schaefer from the Physics and Astronomy Department at LSU. It was a great combination of science and history with humor.

On October 19th, Rollins Place Elementary joined over two million other people in classrooms, libraries, community centers and homes for the world’s largest shared reading experience. The Zachary High School Boys Basketball Team read the book Quackers by Liz Wong to all classrooms at Rollins Place. The students enjoyed hearing the story.

Mrs. Gallion's 8th grade French students recently attended a field trip to La Madeleine, a French restaurant. They ordered their meals in French and enjoyed a typical French lunch: croque-monsieur, quiche, or chicken friand. They were able to enjoy some delicious desserts afterwards. When they returned to NMS, the taste-testing continued. They were able to enjoy some Orangina, as well as some French cheeses, such as Brie and Goat's cheese.

The third Thursday of every month means one thing: it's time for #passthescopeEDU. This community celebrates teachers, students, and educators by connecting ideas using the hashtag on live Periscope broadcasts. Since Twitter and Periscope are integrated, you can see the broadcast through a Twitter feed. Two Zachary teachers, Margret Atkinson and Aimee' Perrodin, participated in October's #passthescopeEDU. They shared ZCSD's continued successes with student engagement and achievement. You can find more information at www.passthescopeedu.com, educators are welcome to sign up for the November broadcast, on November 16th, for the theme of #thankfullyso.

On Friday, October 20th, a member of an organization called NAYGN (North American Young Generation in Nuclear) led the outreach program designed to get young students (1st and 2nd graders specifically) interested in electricity and nuclear power here at Rollins Place Elementary School. Six volunteers visited our school to read a new children’s book called Marie’s Electric Adventure that was created by one of their sister chapters. In addition to the story, they presented learning activities and answered

questions from the students.

On Tuesday, October 24th, ZHS hosted a Book Fair featuring ZHS Student Author, Chase Gray. He held a book signing for his book titled Four Strength Lions. Congratulations, Chase!

Find out more about what is going on with ZHS Robotics with this Advocate article by Mrs. Frances Spencer.
