Foto: Anena Burger Elise Tempelhoff DIE toekoms van die Kgalagadi-oorgrenspark is in die weegskaal nadat die regering van Botswa- na tientalle konsessies vir prospektering of die ontginning van skaliegas óf metaan in die oostelike deel van dié natuurreser- vaat aan mynmaatskap- pye toegeken het. Dr. Jeff Ramsay, woordvoerder van die Botswana-regering, het bevestig die regering het konsessies in die Kgalaga- di-oorgrenspark aan mynhuise beskikbaar gestel. Die suidoostelike deel van die park wat in Suid-Afrika geleë is, word deur SANParke bestuur. ’n Woordvoerder van SANParke wou nie kommentaar oor die toekoms van die Kgalaga- di-oorgrenspark lewer nie en het Volksblad, moeder- koerant van die Kalahari Bulletin, na die departe- ment van omgewingsake verwys. Sy het wel gesê hoewel SANParke en Botswana die Kgalagadi saam bestuur, is Botswana ’n onafhanklike land. Ná talle e-posse en oproepe het die departe- ment van omgewingsake nog nie gereageer nie. Ramsay het vroeër vandeesweek gesê hy meen die Suid-Afrikaanse regering is bewus van Botswana se planne in die ooste van die park. Exxaro, Suid-Afrika se grootste mynmaatskappy in swart besit, het onlangs bevestig hy is by metaanprospektering in Botswana betrokke. Die maatskappy het vyf boorgate “hidrologies gestimuleer”, het Hilton Atkinson, woordvoerder van Exxaro, gesê. Exxaro se prospektering vind nie in enige natuur- reservaat in Botswana plaas nie, het hy gesê. Kitso Mokaila, Botswa- na se minister van minerale, energie en water, het in ’n verkla- ring gesê geen lisensies vir die ontginning van skalie- of metaangas is tot dusver uitgereik nie. Altesaam 88 permitte vir prospektering is wel uitgereik. Mokaila het gesê die internasionale media voer ’n smeerveldtog oor hidrobreking en die ontginning van gas in Botswana. Hy het gesê buitelanders moet besef Botswana is ’n soewerei- ne land en sal sy onaf- hanklikheid met alles tot sy beskikking beskerm, veral weens die soektog na energiebronne tot die beswil van dié land en sy mense. DIE Kankervereniging van Suid-Afrika(Kansa) op Upington het sy takke opAskham, Welkom en Lennertville besoekom aan al die vrywilligers dankie te sê viral die harde werk wat hulle in 2013 gedoenhet.Sonder vrywilligers is Kansa niks omdat

hulle hul harte en tyd beskikbaar stel omkankerpasiënte en hul families te help.Die vrywilligers is met koek en tee bederf

om hulle so te laat weet wat hulle virKansa beteken.Die Kansa-tak op Upington se Relay for

Life vind op 8 Maart 2014 plaas.Kansa nooi alle ondernemings, skole en

organisasies uit om ’n span in te skryf omaan die pret deel te neem en so heelnagteen kanker te veg.Dit is ’n prettige, deurnag-geleentheid wat

fokus op bewusmaking van kanker en waargeld ingesamel word om te help in diegeveg teen kanker. Gedurende die aflos isdaar spanne van 10 tot 15 lede wat deel-neem en die idee is dat een lid ten minsteom die baan loop deur die verloop van dieaflos. Daar word beurte gemaak deur dienag, maar die idee is dat daar altyd tenminste een lid om die baan sal beweeg,want kanker slaap nooit.Elke span betaal ’n registrasiegeld van

R500 as inskrywing vir die Relay For Life.Hulle koppel dan ’n bykomende R3 000

bedrag per span wat hulle dan moetinsamel op enige manier soos hulle goed-dink. Dus beloop die totale bedrag per spanR3 500 wat dan bydra tot die projek se geld

wat dan weer teruggegee word aan dieUpington/Kalahari-streek se kankerpasiën-te.Die rede hoekom Kansa moet staatmaak

op sulke geldinsamelingsprojekte is omdatKansa geen hulp van die staat ontvang nie

en dus alle geld self moet insamel om sydienste in stand te hou en ook uit te brei.Kansa het verskillende dienste wat

gelewer word in streekverband (Upington/Kalahari-streek) naamlik pasiëntondersteu-ningsgroepe, opleiding aan vrywilligers,besoeke aan pasiënte deur vrywilligers,onkologiekliniek-ondersteuning, tussentuis-tes vir pasiënte in groot sentra, borsproste-sebank en pruikbestellings, gratis hulpmid-dels aan kankerpasiënte, klinieke reël virvroeë opsporing, inligtingspraatjies hou,uitstallings en bewusmaking van kanker enkankersimptomebewusmaking aan diepubliek.Benewens dat die geleentheid plaasvind

om geld in te samel is dit ’n ongelooflikegebeurtenis waar die hele gemeenskap kansaamkom om fees te vier vir ’n goeie saak.Hulle het elke persoon se ondersteuning

in die natuurreservaat KalahariTrails by Andriesvale en op diesosiale netwerk Facebookgeheers toe die wêreldbekendemeerkat Kirri eindelik weerhaar opwagting ná bykans tweeweke gemaak het.Honger en uitgeteer het sy by

die huis van haar aanneem-ma,prof. Anne Rasa, aangekom.Kirri het sowat 14 dae gelede

hoog dragtig skielik een oggenddie hasepad gekies.Rasa en die veldgids André

Labuschagne, wat vir haarwerk, het dié oggend hul handevol gehad om haar keer op keerna die werf naby die huis terugte bring waar sy voorheennesgeskop het om vir diegeboorte van haar eerstewerpsel gereed te maak.Sy het hulle later die dag

ontglip en is toe nie weergesien nie.Rasa het oor die afgelope

weke belangstellendes opFacebook op die hoogte gehouof hulle haar al gesien het.Maandag, die 11de dag, berig

Rasa: “Nog niks. Ten minsteweet ons nóú waarom sy (Kirri)die gat-stelsel agter die huisverlaat het. ’n Twee meterlange geelslang het gister uiteen van die gate geseil en isdeur ’n swerm voëls aangeval.’n Belangrike rede om jougeboorte-gat te verander.”Maar toe daag Kirri Dinsdag

14:15 geslaap voordat sy na haarkroos wou terugkeer en sy konnie glo waar die meerkat toegaan nesskop het nie.

Volgens Rasa het Kirri haartuiste in ’n ou springhaasgatsowat 1,5 km weg van dieKalahari Trails se werf gaanmaak. Rasa sê sover haarkennis strek, was Kirri nognooit in daardie deel van diereservaat nie.“Dit was ook glad nie aange-

naam om haar spoor in diesnikhete son te sny nie. Sy hetelke nou en dan onder ’n bos indie skaduwee gaan rus terwyldie son my gebak het.“Ten minste weet ons nou

waar sy is en ons kan ’n ooghou.”Maar Kirri en haar kroos se

avonture en veiligheid is in diegedrang en nog ver van verby.Rasa sê sy weet nie hoe die

meerkat die trek oor so ’n langafstand veilig tot by die huissal maak wanneer sy gaanbesluit om die kleinspan teskuif nie. Sy sê as sy na diesuigmerkies aan Kirri se tepelskyk, behoort daar vier tot seskleintjies te wees. Hul ogiesbehoort nou oop te gaan enhulle sal binne die volgendetwee weke hul verskyningmaak.

KERSTYD kom nader en die kopkrap oor geskenke koop bereik ’n hoogte­punt. Volksblad se 2014­kalender bestaande uit 75 pragfoto’s is ’n nuttigeoplossing. Die foto’s is deur amateurfotograwe in Volksblad se lesersgebiedgeneem en beeld die streek uit. Dit is A3­grootte en is op glanspapier vangoeie gehalte gedruk. Elke maand is op ’n afsonderlike bladsy en vakansie­dae en skoolkwartale word aangedui. Januarie 2015 is ook ingesluit. Slegs500 kalenders teen R70 elk is beskikbaar. Die kalenders is by Volksblad sekantore in Bloemfontein, Welkom en Kimberley en op Kroonstad, Bethlehem,Kuruman en Upington beskikbaar.

Leef ’n dagop ’n slag

TERWYL ons aan die eindevan 2013 staan en begin uitsienna die groot Kersvierings watom die draai is, blyk dit die13de jaar van die 21ste eeu was’n jaar wat gestand gedoen hetaan sy getal se reputasie as ’nongelukkige een. Aan die beginvan die jaar was die vraag ofdit wel ’n ongelukkige 13 gaanwees vinnig beantwoord.

Dié jaar het aangegaan metdie ekonomiese resessie watdie wêreld en Suid-Afrika al ’npaar jaar in ’n wurggreep het.

Hoewel die Noord-Kaapekonomies beter gevaar het asdie ander provinsies, het menseoor die algemeen swaardergetrek om die jaar te oorleef.

Die Noord-Kaap is ook verdergetref deur die opspraakwek-kende Griekwastad-moorde watalmal oor die jaar heen aan diepraat gehad het.

Die uitspraak wat nou eersin 2014 gelewer gaan word, salhopelik die antwoorde op baiemoeilike vrae verskaf.

Dit was egter nie die enigste

opspraakwekkende moord nie.Hoewel die moorde op

Harrismith in die buurprovin-sie plaasgevind het, het dieraakpunte met die Griekwa-stad-moorde ou wonde oopge-krap. Ouers veral is getref deurdie ou vraagstuk oor wat diegrootste rol in die opvoedingvan hul kinders speel.

Is dit nature of nurture watdie vorming van jong volwasse-nes die meeste beïnvloed?

Daarby het die jaar met diedood van Suid-Afrika segrootste staatsman geëindig.

Oudpresident Nelson Mande-la se dood het alle Suid-Afrika-ners geruk en laat besin oorwaar ons vandaan kom enwaarheen ons van hier af moetbeweeg. Die herbevestiging vansy versoeningsboodskap hetegter ’n ligpunt aan dié donkerwolk geheg.

Nou staan Suid-Afrika aandie voet van 2014. Gaan diekomende jaar ekonomiese enpolitieke verligting bring? Wieweet . . . ons sal dit maar dagvir dag moet aanpak.

JESAJA 40 vers 29-31: “Hy gee dievermoeide krag en vermenigvuldigsterkte vir dié wat geen krag hetnie. Die pas van hierdie lewe is nette vinnig. Die tempo waarteen onsleef, maak dat vele van ons op dierandjie van uitbranding en selfssenu-instortings is.

Hier aan die einde van die jaarkan ons nie wag om net ’n ruskanste kan gaan geniet nie. Vir andereis dit nie beskore om weg te breeken te gaan rus nie.

’n Atleet moet hardloop teen ’nsekere pas. Indien hy die pas salversnel, sal hy nie die wenpaalhaal nie; hy sal homself uitbrand.Ons sal moet leer om meer aandagte gee aan ons lewenstempo .

God se tempo is “WAG”. Diemens leef teen ’n tempo van“NOU”. Uitgebrande moeë mens,leer om jouself tot stilstand tedwing. Aanvaar dat die lewe vereisons moet ook STOP. Jy kan nie netaangaan en aangaan sonder om joukrag te vernuwe nie.

Wanneer ons leer om by God setempo aan te pas sal jy soms voeljy hardloop, soms voel dit of jyvlieg en ander kere stap jy of staanjy net stil. Om dan in Sy pas tekom, sal ons in Sy krag beweeg,dan word ons nie moeg nie, dan isdie lewe vir ons ’n uitdaging.

Die STOP-oomblik, die WAG-oom-blik is nie om passief agteroor tesit nie. Dis oomblikke waar jy bid,na Hom vra, en dit is ook dan datSy wil aan ons openbaar gemaaksal word. Koop die tyd uit om SyWoord te lees en laat toe dat Hy totjou spreek deur Sy Woord.

Wanneer Hy deel word van onslewenstempo, dan sal die kleur vanons lewe weer terugkom. Sal onsweer energie kry en sal ons weerdie lewe kan geniet. Matt. 11 vers28: “Almal wat vermoeid en belas is,kom na My toe en Ek sal julle rusgee.” Die lewe behoort vir ons ’nreis te wees en nie ’n wedloop nie.Ons is vry om die lewe te gebruiken as ons wys is, sal ons dit leefmet die ewigheid in gedagte. Genietu vakansie, geniet u ruskans, enpak 2014 met nuwe krag aan.

En volgende jaar draai die koerantwiel weer . . .Ilse Watson

VIR eens het ek geen benul wat omvir ons Kameeldoring-rubriek teskryf nie.

Want dit is die einde van diejaar en ek verwys gewoonlikdaarna as die silly season.

Want baie mense is moeg,gestres, oorwerk, emosioneeluitgeput en ’n mens se verstandwil ook nie meer so lekkerfunksioneer nie.

As ek terugkyk na die afgelopejaar sien ek ’n mengelmoes-deur-mekaar-vrugteslaai – partykeer isdie vrugteslaai met salige vanielje-

roomys voorgesit en ander kere isdie vrugteslaai met suurroombedien.

Elke jaar het sy hoogte- enlaagtepunte. Dit is ’n gegewe. OpNuwejaarsdag glo ’n mens kinder-lik dit gaan nét ’n goeie jaar wees.Maar dit gebeur nie altyd so nie.Die grootste deel van my 2013 isdeur my werk (en lewe) in diekoerantbedryf ingesluk. Sommervroeg-vroeg het ek na die koerant-lewe as ’n hamsterwieletjie beginverwys – want dit hou net nooitop draai nie.

Soms het ek gewens daar wilelke dag ’n bietjie nuus gebeur

sodat ek ordentlike aandag daaraankan skenk, maar nuus kies nie ’ntyd nie – sommer vier goed sal opeen dag gebeur en jy hardloop joubeentjies stomp om by alles uit tekom. En die volgende dag is ditweer doodstil.

Maar dit is ’n lewe wat ek nievir enigiets sal verruil nie – skryfis in my bloed.

My oupa het as subredakteur by

een van die groot koerante inJohannesburg afgetree.

My pa se kunstige streep het indie teken van spotprentjies (oorhomself) gelê. Hy het ook graagpotloodsketse gedoen.

My dogter sing en doen kreatie-we dagboeke oor haar lewe. Sohier en daar skryf sy iets (meestalin Engels) wat my mond laatoophang. En dan wens ek dat ekook sulke mooi kreatiewe storieskan skryf.

Ja, ons het almal ’n kreatiewetalent.

En so sal ek 2014 ingaan metnuwe moed en hoop vir nog ’n jaar

propvol interessante nuus.Ek wil ook van dié geleentheid

gebruik maak om die gemeenskap-pe van Kathu en Kuruman (enomliggende dorpe) te bedank vir aldie nuus wat vir my gestuur isen/of al die dringende oproepe oor“groot nuus” wat pas gebeur het.

Ek wil ook vir al die mense byons hoofkantoor in Bloemfonteindankie sê vir hul geduld, hulp enondersteuning – sonder julle saldaar ook nie elke week ’n KalahariBulletin op straat verskyn nie.

Wees asseblief veilig op onspaaie – seënwense tot volgendejaar.

DIE ATKV verneem metleedwese van die afsterwe vanNelson Mandela, of Madiba, soosdie wêreld ná die eerste demokra-tiese verkose swart president vanSuid-Afrika verwys het.

Nelson Mandela het ’n besonder-se verhouding met Afrikaansgehad. As kind op die plattelandvan Transkei het hy dit nooitgehoor nie, maar in sy 27 jaar indie tronk is hy daagliks daarmeegekonfronteer. Hy moes dit ookverstaan en gebruik tydens dieingewikkelde onderhandelings vir

’n nuwe Suid-Afrika.Ons wil hom vandag daarvoor

huldig dat hy, in sy termyn aspresident en in sy hoedanigheidas leier van die nuwe Suid-Afrika,nooit toegelaat het dat persoonlikebitterheid die demokrasie onder-myn nie, ook nie as dit by taalkom nie. Ons wil dankie sê dat hydie moeite gedoen het om Afri-

kaans en Afrikaanssprekendes asdeel van Afrika beskou het, en dathy Afrikaners nie net as deel vandie apartheidsverlede van Suid-Afrika gesien het nie, maar ook asdeel van die toekoms en dieoplossing vir die land se proble-me. In Suid-Afrika, waar nasie-bou so belangrik is, het ons mensesoos Nelson Mandela nodig.

Hy het in ’n baie kort tydgrense en persepsies, soos dat onsnie saam kan bestaan nie, ver-skuif. Hy sal vir altyd deur alleSuid-Afrikaners en deur die helewêreld onthou word.

Hendrik van Eck Road, a bell mouth at theR380 intersection, paving on the side of theroad, new street light poles, a bus bay andmedian islands.The road surface has also been overlaid

with a pre-mix tar surface.This project also sees Kathu’s first traffic

lights come to life.There is a set of traffic lights at the Ian

Fleming intersection, the R380 intersectionand at the entrance to the mine.“The traffic lights will be operational

after the demarcation of the roads iscompleted. The project was delayed by therecent rain but should be completed by 20December, weather permitting. Please takenote of this and adhere to traffic regulati-ons concerning traffic lights.“We are right on target and within

budget on this construction project,” saysHendrik Smit, civil engineer at the SishenMine’s Small Business Hub and projectmanager of the Hendrik van Eck Roadconstruction.“Kumba is proud to be an investor and

partner in this project to ensure a saferroad for our employees and stakeholders.“On behalf of the mine and the municipa-

kampusse in die Noord-Kaap het vir ’nweek lange indaba op Upington byeenge-kom.Dié dosente van die Kathu-, Kuruman-,

Namakwaland- en De Aar-kampus het saammet dosente van die Upington-kampussaamgetrek om te werk aan die voortgesettegehalte-onderrig wat op al die kampussegebied word.Petro Diedericks, hoofkoördineerder van

dié indaba, het gesê dit was ’n eerste in sysoort vir die kollege, maar dat dit ’nreuse-sukses was en dat die doelwitte vandie indaba beslis bereik is. Die indaba was’n projek om gehalte-onderrig en -opleidingaan al die kampusse van die Noord-KaapseLandelike VOO-kollege in die Noord-Kaap teverseker en om standaardisering tussen dievyf kampusse wat gehalte-onderrig, assesse-

ring en eksamens insluit, reg te kry.“Ek wil graag die passie vir onderwys

terugbring en daardeur ook ons kollege seslaagsyfer verbeter,” het Diedericks gesê.Daar is ook na al die knelpunte op die

verskillende kampusse gekyk, oplossings isgesoek en 2014 se jaarbeplanning is opge-stel. Al die dosente het met ’n volledige engestandaardiseerde jaarplan en gemotiveerdna hul onderskeie kampusse teruggekeer.Sprekers soos Nadine Pote, direkteur van

KURUMAN. – Enkele ure nadat MokwalediAlbert Nthekeng (29) verlede Donderdag diepolisie gehelp het om ’n booswig vas te trekwat R25 000 in ’n winkel gesteel het, is hyop slag dood toe twee swaar voertuie, ’n witToyota-bakkie en ’n wit VW Polo in ’nbotsing op die R380 tussen Kuruman en

Hotazel betrokke was.Vier ander mense is beseer en na die

Kuruman-hospitaal gebring.“Dit is so ongelooflik tragies. Die man het

KERSFEES het deur die eeueheen ’n belangrike plek in diehart van families, kerke engemeenskappe gekry, maar togis die feestyd een van frustra-sie, hartseer en ’n grootlawaai. En aan die eindedaarvan wag die skuldberadersom hulp weens dié onverant-woordelikheid te verleen.

Kersfees is veronderstel omgesinstyd en ’n diepe bepein-sing te wees oor die Wonderwat in Betlehem plaasgevindhet. Maar hedendaags ontbreekdie egtheid van Kersfees inharte en gemeenskappe.

Geen wonder nie dat jaar nájaar soveel ellende, padsterftes,sedeloosheid, selfdoodneigings,losbandigheid, onvergenoegd-heid en leegheid in huise engemeenskappe oor die Kerstydheen inkruip.

Dan wonder ek of Jesus trotssou wees op sulke feesvieringewat in skrille kontras staanmet die eenvoud en betekenisvan die Betlehem-gebeure.

Andersyds word die Kerstydgekenmerk deur die skiet vanvuurwerk. Herhaaldelik is daargeskryf en gewaarsku oor diegevare wat die onwettige skietvan vuurwerk vir troeteldiereen mense inhou, maar skyn-baar val dit op dowe ore.

Slegs mense wat gelisensi-eerd is om vuurwerk te mag

skiet kan dit doen.Wetgewing vereis dat die

skiet van vuurwerk ondertoesig geskied. Dit moet ookongeveer 500 m buite diebeboude gebiede geskiet word.Hier moet die munisipale radehul regulasies in plek hê enmet die polisie saamwerk omdie geraasoorlas te onderdruk.

Myns insiens is dit onverant-woordelik van ouers omvuurwerk te koop sodat hulleen hul kinders op dié manierdie “Stille Tyd” kan geniet.

Hierdie onverantwoordelikeindividue besef nie watterinvloed hul optrede op troetel-diere, bejaardes, babas enfamilies het nie wat ver gereishet om gehaltetyd saam methul geliefdes deur te bring.

Diere word so die skrik opdie lyf gejaag dat hulle oorheinings en mure spring en sóerg beseer word wat grootuitgawes vir eienaars mee-bring.

Vuurwerk is onwettig, maarword steeds jaarliks geskiet.

Maak seker jou hond word in ’nklein, veilige kamer of die motor-huis toegemaak sodat hy nieweens skok oor die heining ofdeur ’n venster kan spring nie.

Maak vensters en deure toesodat hulle nie die flitse kan siennie en speel sagte musiek om dieknal te verbloem.

Die gevulde skaaprol is eie aan dieKerstyd met sy feestydspeserye en diemousse is perfek vir ontbyt of nagereg. Diemosterdvrugte is veral lekker saam met kouevleis.

GEVULDE SKAAPROLVulsel:Braai 2 gekapte uie in 30 ml olyfolie. Voeg 1vet, gekapte knoffelhuisie en ’n knippie soutby en braai tot sag en deurskynend.Voeg by:75 g basmati-rys2,5 ml borrieknippie fyn kruinaeltjies2,5 ml fyn koljander1,25 ml fyn gemmer5 ml fyn komynsap van 1 suurlemoen150 ml waterKook 10 minute teen ’n baie lae hitte.Verwyder van plaat.

Bottel.
