Angel Island• For thirty years, from 1910 to 1940, Angel Island in

San Francisco Bay was the first, often the only, toehold (落脚点) in America for immigrants from China. During the time they spent on the island, as little as a few days, as long as three years, they carved and ink brushed their thoughts onto the walls. One hundred thirty-five calligraphic (书法的) poems survived, first discovered after Angel Island was abandoned( 遗弃 ) in 1940. These tell of voyages (航行) from China, stay (停留) on the island, attitudes towards the first Americans immigration officials and social workers -- and finally their disappointments.

• San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions, and an exciting, interesting part of San Francisco. Famous for the seafood, and some of its individual attractions, Fisherman’s Wharf is fun and a little crazy, and the perfect way to spend a day

the Golden Gate Bridge

• The orange towers of the Golden Gate Bridge-probably the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed bridge in the world-are visible (可看见的) from almost every point of elevation(高地) in San Francisco. The Golden Gate took only 52 months to design and build, and was opened in 1937. It was the first really massive(厚重的) suspension (悬浮) bridge, and until 1959 ranked as the world's longest.
