problem of the food shortage was not able to solve, the villagers ask for migration to

another area in year 1951 and Sungai Buloh New Village was built up.

In early year, the main economic activities were plant vegetables and

development of the rubbers. In year 1960, the development of the livestock replaced

the development of the agriculture since there was recession of the livestock in year

1980. The development of the factories in Sungai Buloh New Village is affected by

the Subang New Village which is known as “factory village”. This caused big

changes on the social and economic of the village.

There was a serious fire occurred during 5 July 1991. It was caused by the

explosion of the fireworks manufacture factory. Around 400 of the houses were burnt,

100 people were injured and 22 unluckily person were died in this incident.

For the villagers in Sungai Buloh New Village, education is very important

for them. So, they started to build school during year 1928. The primary school at

first name Sekolah Lian Qiao but now is known as SJK(C) Kampung Baru Sungai

Buloh. The school started up with 30 students with only two classrooms. On 1945,

three more classrooms were built in order to face the problems of more and more

students were applying. The classes were divided to two sessions: morning and

afternoon session. Sekolah Lian Qiao was successfully built up a new building with

the donation from government, MCA and those kind-hearted during 1952. That was

the time the school name as SJK (C) Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh.

The extensions of the school were kept continued. On 1989, the second new

building was built with total 12 classrooms. In order to increase the space for the

students to carry out activities, a multipurpose shed was built on 1998. As coming to

20th centuries, the career opportunity in this village was increasing, more and more

TOURISM VALUE

Sungai Buloh New Village is very popular with a variety of food among the

city folks especially during weekends and public holidays. Firstly, it is all about the

Hakka famous bun- “tie ban bao”. It is a soft bun with some ingredients like peanuts,

coconut or sweetened bean paste. Sin Sang Loong is famous with this Hakka fried

bun where thousands of buns are sold per day. Although is just a small stall, the buns

have a long history where now are the 5th generation who do the buns. Last time they

used oils to fry the buns but to match up with the community which is concern about

health issue; they fried the buns without oils. Surprisingly, they found the buns taste

better.

Next, continue with the Chinese New Year famous dishes- “Pun Choy” at

Restoran LYJ. “Pun Choy” is known as Big Bowl Feast where layers of various types

of food like scallops, fake shark fins, tiger prawns, roast duck, suckling pork, Chinese

mushrooms and a lot more plunked in one bowl. This dish is more common in Hong

Kong but recently gained popularity in local shores. Booking in advance at least one

day is needed since there are more than 10 types of foods that need different ways of

cooking like steam and fried. It is not like steamboat that just cook all the food in a

pot.

Jeff Lee’s Kitchen is also another famous place for food. It will be very

crowded especially on weekends and public holidays. Most of the time the waiting

line is very long and yet the crowd continues to come. Reasonable price with big

portion food and fresh ingredients are the reasons make the crowd willing to wait for

the food. The shop trademark-noodle with minced meat on top is a must try dish. The

mixed pork porridge is very delicious with all kind of pork ingredients inside.

Last is Restoran Teochew that serves with seafood like grouper fish, prawns

and cutter fish. During day time, the restaurant is serves with either seafood noodles

PROBLEMS

Due to the continuous development in Sungai Buloh New Village, more and

more lands are developed for commercial purposes. As a result, land shortage has

become one of the major problems in this area. Roads are very narrow and most of

the roads are only one way streets. This problem has also led to serious traffic

congestion especially during peak hours. Moreover, traffic lights at the junction of

Jalan Sungai Buloh and Jalan Welfare has caused inconvenience for Sungai Buloh

New Village’s residents. Cars from Sungai Buloh had to wait too long time to turn

into Jalan Welfare.

Heavy traffic in the morning, noon and evening is also caused by the market

and school located inside the village. In addition, there had been many accidents at

the junction. Another problem is the computer card in the traffic lights frequently gets

stolen. This computer card is very expensive and has to order it from Australia.

Sungai Buloh New Village has quite a lot of job opportunities due to 70% of

this village is built up with factories. However, these factories always bring accidents

to this village, such as firework explosion happened in year 1991 and take away 22

lives. Other than that, those factories bring a big impact to the villagers that. It is

about their safety. More and more foreign workers are hired to help in the factory.

They might be involved in robbery, vandalism, stolen case and many other cases.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Serious action needs to be taken to solve those problems mentioned above.

Firstly, to overcome the serious traffic jam in that area, the timing of the traffic light

had to change to accommodate the heavy traffic in the peak hour. In addition, another

solution to ease the traffic congestion is having another exit into the village and

industrial area from the main road to turn into Jalan Baru Sungai Buloh. It is because

currently, there is the only one entrance for cars coming from the Sungai Buloh. To

overcome the problem of computer card keep being stolen, the police patrol cars are

needed to reduce these incidents.

Other than that, as 70% of this village is filled up with factories, they have to

create some rules and regulations and also check their factories on schedule whether

the machine and workers are worked in a safe condition. They have to take some

precautions to reduce the accidents happened again. As for the problem of foreign

workers, the owner of the factories should limit the number of foreign workers in

their factories. At the same time, hire security guard to patrol around especially when

late in night.
