VIRGIN OF CISNE

The Virgin of Cisne is a Marian advocacy of the Catholic Church, its image has its primary center of worship in the Basilica of Cisne, in the parish of Cisne, in the province of Loja, Equador. The Virgin of Cisne has millions of devotees which meet from all parts of the world to pay homage to Mary “The Mother of God”, whom appeared for the first time in Cisne on the 12th of October 1594, date in which the parish of Cisne was stricken by a “big drought and rat plague that devastated all the crops; consequently there was a terrible famine that obliged the indios on one side to emigrate in search for better lands and on the other they did it fleeing from the ones that where trying to impose on them the Catholic religion.” The indios found themselves in this situation, when the Most Holy Virgin appeared to a young indigenous girl that was used to go out to the fields to shepherd her sheep and on her way she encountered “a beautiful Lady crowned with fragrant roses” that accompanied her while she was in the fields with conversations about God and this is what she told her… “Go and tell your elders to build a church here so that I will assist them so that they will hunger never again” …

Here is the promise of the Most Blessed Virgin: “Trust in me, because I am going to help you and protect you so that never again you will experience hunger. Here I want to assist you erect in this place a temple, that I will be there always with you.”

The Holy Father speaks…

Only when we experience God's forgiveness are we truly reborn. We start again from there, from forgiveness. It is there that we rediscover ourselves: in confessing our sins.

The way of Jesus, which leads to peace, passes through forgiveness, for one evil never corrects another evil and no resentment is ever good for the heart.

In the midst of all those passing things in which we are so caught up, help us, Father, to seek what truly lasts: your presence and that of our brother or sister.

GIFT CARDS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED At Christmastime, we always ask you to donate store Gift Cards so that we can help families in need of items to sustain them. We have already run out of them and we are asking for more. Those most needed are grocery and food store cards. When you shop, think of the poor and pick up a gift card. Simply place it in the collection basket when you come to Mass. You don't have to wait for Christmas to help those in need. Your generosity will be rewarded.

St. Rosalia Feast on 18th Avenue

As usual, we remind everyone that the Feast of St. Rosalia held every year on 18th Avenue has nothing to do with our parish.

We do not benefit in any way from it, nor is it under our sponsorship.

Have you spent time in Eucharistic Adoration lately? When asked, "What would save the world?" ... Mother Teresa replied: "My answer is prayer. What we need is for every parish to come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament in holy hours of prayer." The Eucharist is the Sacrament of unity, Jesus unifying His people. Through the personal love, that one shares with the Savior, one is more able to grasp the reality that we are the whole Body of Christ. Jesus waits for us in the Blessed Sacrament. He waits for our little acts of faith, adoration, love, thanksgiving, repentance, reparation and charity that we can offer Him as we contemplate -- His Divine Majesty -- in the Blessed Sacrament.

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: Every Friday from 9:00AM. to 7:30PM

in St. Joseph’s Chapel.

“One cannot know the Lord without the habit of adoring, of adoring in silence. I believe — if I am not mistaken — that this prayer of adoration is the least known among us; it is the one we engage in the least. To waste time — if I may say it — before the Lord, before the mystery of Jesus Christ. To adore, there in the silence, in the silence of adoration. He is the Lord and I adore Him.”

-Pope Francis
