Activity 6.6B Maintenance and decommissioning
Answer the questions below.
1 Imagine you have decommissioned an indirect cold-water system in an olddomestic property, in preparation for demolition. The indirect system fed a bath, washbasin and WC; the rising main fed the sink and CWSC.
Write a short report on how you did the job, including how you liaised with othersite workers.
2 How would you remove a circlip from a spindle?
a Use a chisel to prize it off.
b Use a small screwdriver to push it out.
c Use circlip pliers to open and pull off.
d Taps do not have circlips they have SOM clips.
3 If you have a water hammer problem how can this be solved?
a Replace float valve with equilibrium valve.
b Replace float valve with Portsmouth pattern valve.
c Increase pressure to system by opening stop-tap so it is fully open.
d Remove float from arm of float valve.
Note: point d would stop the water hammer but it would cause massive floodingof the house so not a recommended option!)
General point
