DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME CHANGE
A reminder to turn your clocks back one hour on
Sunday, November 4.
Gospel: Mark 9:30-37 (What were you arguing about?) Adults: What proof is there in the world that people don’t accept Jesus’ teaching on power and ambition? Children: Why is the wanting of the things that be-long to others is wrong?
PLEASE PRAY FOR THE SICK AND THEIR CAREGIVERS IN OUR PARISH
Pray that these parishioners may find comfort and heal-ing in Christ:
Javier Arreola, Eva Couto, Elise James, Cheryl Pressley-Smith, Ernie Phillips,
Bill Dickson, Audrinna Gardea, Ed Ziller, and Mildred Tucker.
Please call the Ministry Center office at 472-2150 to add or remove names from this list.
“And Jesus said to him, ‘Go your way; your faith has made you well.’ And immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.” Mark 10:52 Faith is believing in something even though you may not be able to see it. Many people think that miracles don’t happen anymore. If you focus on the positive, not the negative and focus on your blessings instead of your hardships, miracles will seem common and you will see God’s active presence in your daily life. “Y Jesús le dijo: ‘Vete, tu fe te ha sanado.’ Y de inmediato recibió su vista y lo siguió en el camino.” Marcos 10:52 La fe es creer en algo aunque no puedas verlo. Mucha gente piensa que los milagros ya no ocurren. Pero, si te enfocas en lo positivo, no en lo negativo, te concentras en tus bendiciones en lugar de en tus dificultades, los milagros parecerán comunes y verás la presencia activa de Dios en tu vida diaria.”
That we recognize all the gifts we are given and see God’s active presence in our daily life. Que reconozcamos todos los dones que recibi-mos y veamos la presencia active de Dios en nuestra vida diaria.

Week 4: Euthanasia What the Church Teaches
To bring about the death of a person in order to ease his or her suffering is always wrong. It is “always a serious violation of the law of God because it is the deliberate and morally unacceptable killing of a human person”
(The Gospel of Life, no. 65).
How we deal with persons in the last stages of life, when they may be completely dependent on others, says a great deal about the kind of society we live in and the kind of persons we are.
We owe to those who are dying or severely impaired the same respect and love we give to anyone else, regardless of condition. And as a Church we must be particularly committed to defending the rights of our most
vulnerable brothers and sisters, just as we are for the unborn and for those challenged by disabilities.
Slogans such as “death with dignity” abound, but miss a fundamental truth: our dignity is in our humanity and how it reflects the goodness of God. When we love and affirm each other even in the most extreme cir-cumstances, we witness to the dignity of persons. Pain and suffering do not undermine our dignity. Abandoning the suffering brother or sister to death does. True compassion means accompanying another person in his suffering, alleviating that suffering with respect for the person’s dignity, and never abandoning him or her. “True ‘compassion’ leads to sharing another’s pain; it does not kill the person whose suffering we cannot bear.” (The Gospel of Life,
no. 65) Copyright ©2018 Catholic News Service / U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
Immigration What the Church Teaches
Opponents of both lawful and unauthorized immigration often inaccurately criticize the Catholic Church as supportive of “open borders” in an attempt to discredit the strength of Church’s voice in the immigra-tion policy dialogue. In the pastoral letter, Strangers No longer: Together on the Journey of Hope, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) recognized the right of the sovereign to control and protect its borders, stating: “we accept the legitimate role of the U.S….government in intercepting undocumented migrants who attempt to travel through or cross into [the country]. “The U.S. Bishops made clear, however, that “…[w]e do not accept...some of the policies and tactics that our government has employed to meet this...responsibility.” No. 78. In Strangers No Longer, the U.S. Bishops made clear that despite the sovereign’s right to control its bor-ders and engage in enforcement of immigration laws, the “human dignity and human rights of undocu-mented migrants should be respected.” The Bishops declared that [r]egardless of their legal status, mi-grants, like all persons, possess inherent human dignity that should be respected...Government policies that respect the basic human rights of the undocumented are necessary.” No. 38.
