The variations of burr size, surface quality, cutting force and torque have been investigated in detail for different cutting and cooling conditions. Besides, the wear mechanism and wear type of micro drill were also examined. The experimental results show that the cooling method does not affect too much the burr size at the exit point of drill. However, it is possible to say that the burr size is minimum when using cryogenic cooling. Additionaly, the roughness of input surface of the drill is greater than the value of output surface. The dominant wear mechanism is abrasive wear in micro drills and built-up formation was observed in all cutting enviroment. Abstract

This paper presents a series of experimental study on the influence of cutting parameters and cooling conditions on the efficiency of micro drilling of Ti-6Al-4V. The variations of burr size, surface quality, cutting force and torque have been investigated in detail for different cutting and cooling conditions. Besides, the wear mechanism and wear type of micro drill were also examined. The experimental results show that the cooling method does not affect too much the burr size at the exit point of drill. However, it is possible to say that the burr size is minimum when using cryogenic cooling. Additionaly, the roughness of input surface of the drill is greater than the value of output surface.
