The fan coil units are shipped in standard packaging which consists of expanded polystyrene foam and cardboard.

PACKAGING

WARNING: The fan coil unit is connect-ed to the power supply network and the hydraulic circuit. Any intervention by per-sonnel not technically qualified can result in injury to the operator and damage to the unit and the surrounding environment. WARNING: Do not allow the unit to be used by children or incapacitated people without suitable supervision. It is reminded that the unit must not be used as a toy by children. ONLY PROVIDE A POWER SUPPLY OF 230V ~ 50HZ TO THE FAN COIL UNITUsing other power supply ratings can cause irreparable damage to the fan coil unit. DO NOT USE THE FAN COIL UNIT IMPROPERLYDo not use the fan coil unit in animal hus-bandry applications. VENTILATING THE ROOMPeriodically air the room in which the fan coil unit has been installed; this is par-ticularly important if the room is occupied by many people, or if gas appliances or sources of odours are present.CORRECTLY CONTROLLING THE TEMPERA-TUREThe room temperature should be controlled in order to provide maximum comfort to the people in the room, especially if they are elderly, children or ill, avoiding sudden

changes in temperature between the out-side and inside above 7 °C in summer. A too low temperature will lead to increased electrical consumption in the summer.CORRECTLY ADJUSTING THE AIR JETThe air coming out of the fan coil unit must not strike people directly; in fact, even if at a temperature that is higher than the room temperature, it could cause a cold sensa-tion and resulting discomfort.DURING OPERATIONAlways leave the filter in the fan coil unit during operation otherwise dust in the air will dirty the surfaces of the coil. WHAT IS NORMALDuring cooling, water vapour may be pre-sent in the air discharge.During heating it might be possible to hear a slight hiss around the fan coil unit. Sometimes the fan coil unit might give off unpleasant smells due to the accumula-tion of substances from the air of the room (especially if the room is not ventilated regularly. Clean the filter more often).During operation, there could be noises and creaks inside the unit, due to the ther-mal expansion of the various components (plastic and metallic), but this does not indicate a malfunction and does not cause damage to the unit unless the maximum input water temperature is exceeded.

MAINTENANCEDO NOT USE TOO HOT WATER Use a soft cloth or sponge with water at a maximum of 40 °C to clean the fan coil unit. Do not use chemical products or sol-vents on any parts of the fan coil unit. Do not splash water on interior or exterior surfaces of the fan coil unit (it could cause short circuits).PERIODIC FILTER CLEANINGFrequent filter cleaning ensures a better operating efficiency. Check if the filter is very dirty: in this case increase the cleaning frequency. Clean frequently by removing the accumu-lated dust with a vacuum cleaner. When the filter is clean refit it to the fan coil unit reversing the removal procedure. SPECIAL CLEANINGThe possibility of removing the fan coil unit inspection panels (carried out only by per-sonnel suitably qualified) allows detailed cleaning of the internal parts, particularly for installations with high occupancy or requiring elevated hygiene standards.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND MAINTENANCE

Refer to the control panel manual for operating use and installation.

USE

If the fan coil unit operates continuously in cooling mode in a room with high relative humidity, condensate might form on the air discharge and unit casing. This condensate might be deposited on the floor and on any objects underneath. To prevent the formation of condensation on the exterior of the unit

while the fan is operating, the average water temperature should not drop below the operating limits shown in the table below, determined by the room ambient conditions. These limits refer to unit operation with fan at minimum speed. In the case of prolonged periods with the fan

switched off and cold water passing through the coil the formation of condensate on the unit casing is possible. In this case the installation of the 3 way valve accessory is recommended.

In order to avoid air stratification and therefore achieve better mixing it is advised not supply the fan coil unit with water hotter than 65°C. The use of very hot water could cause

creaking due to the thermal expansion of the different components (plastics and metals). This does not cause damage to the unit if the maximum operating temperature is not

exceeded.

Fan coil unit with controlled discharge

Comfort everywhereOptimal distribution of the air in the space as a function of operating mode. In each season the temperature of the air in the room will be homogenous at all heights avoiding the unpleasant effect of stratification. In winter operation the flow of air is

directed towards the floor, in summer operation the flow of air is directed towards the ceiling. The user can decide at any moment where to direct the flow of air.

Low noise operationThe extremely low noise ventilation take the Aermec fan coil units to the pinnacle of acoustic comfort through the absence of noise peaks.

VMFAll the DUALJET fan coil units are equipped with VMF (Variable Multi Flow) thermostat; the control and management system of hydronic installations for the conditioning, heating and production of domestic hot water. The VMF system allows complete control of every component of a

hydronic installation both locally and in a centralised way and, using the communication between the various components of the installation, manages the performance without ever ignoring the required comfort of the final user, achieving this in the most efficient way with consequent energy savings.Adding the advantages of such an innovative controller to the flexibility of

a hydronic installation gives a more effective and efficient alternative to variable refrigerant flow installations (VRF).The VMF system is extremely flexible to the point of allowing various steps of control and management, expandible at any time.

DUALJET: Comfort everywhereOne of the main causes of discomfort is the perception of a non-homogenous vertical distribution of temperature in the

space. This is the situation that can happen in heating, during the winter season. The innovative DUALJET fan coil unit is capable of offering a pleasurable feeling of comfort directing the air in such a

way as to offer a uniform distribution of temperature throughout the space. In the winter season the warm air is directed towards the floor, in the summer the cool air is directed towards the

ceiling.

• Operation in TTL networkThe VMF-E0DJ thermostat is designed to

communicate with other thermostats through a dedicated serial network based on the logic standard TTL. Such serial communication is indispensable for the exchange of information within small networks of fan coil units (up to a maximum of 6) for a maximum network length of 30 metres. This has been conceived to satisfy small zones where there are several fan coil units which require control from a single point.

Specifically in this network there is always a master to which the user interface (VMF-E2, VMF-E4) is con-nected, which controls the operation of the slaves connected to it, based on the settings made on the user interface.

The slave fan coil units are without con-trol panel and can be Dualjet or fan coil units equipped with a VMF type electronic board.

All the fan coil units on the TTL network have to be of the same configuration type. For example: all standard or all with the additional water coil.

The electronic board on each slave fan coil unit, as a function of the set-tings received from the network and the ambient conditions read by the sensors, autonomously from the other fan coil units ensures the ventilation is switched on or off to meet the user's desired conditions in the space.

• Operation in coolingThe operation in cooling requires a

water circuit with chiller.

• Operation in heating The operation in heating requires a

water circuit with boiler, heat pump or solar installation.

• Change Over (Seasonal change)The change of season is determined by

the user, opening or closing the louvres determines the operating mode:- louvres open = cooling mode- louvres closed = heating mode

To optimise the operation of an installa-tion with units connected on a network it is recommended to duplicate on the Slave units the position of the louvres on the Master unit.

Installation with 4 pipes appropriately position the louvres on the Slave units which have a different operating mode to the Master unit.

The operation is permitted with the following settings if the water sensor reads the following temperatures:

Ventilation

Range CoolDead band

Heat

Normal 17° 22° - 35° 39°

Reduced 22° 25° - 31° 35°

Water temperature in °C

If the anti-freeze function is set the unit is forced to operate only in heating mode.

- Control on water temperature Ventilation enabling on water side is

active only with water tempera-ture sensor. The thermostat identifies the limit enabling the ventilation in Heating mode (Minimum Control) and

in Cooling mode (Maximum Control), through the dip-switch it is possible to select between two temperature rang-es.

- Control on temperature air sideWhenever the measured ambient tem-

perature is below the set point by a value equal to the Dead band the unit operates in Heating mode.

Whenever the measured ambient tem-perature is above the set point by a value equal to the Dead band the unit operates in Cooling mode.

In networked fan coil units the dead band values are those configured on the master fan coil unit.

• Stop by loss of powerAfter a stop from loss of power the unit

will restart with the settings active before stopping.

• Delayed startingThe unit can delay the start of the venti-

lation after switching on, normally up to 2’40” (pre-heat function).

• Anti-freeze protectionControl in switched off position (OFF).

The fan coil unit can restart in heating mode (set point 12°C) if the ambient temperature drops below 7°C and the temperature of the water systems is appropriate.

In networked fan coil units the slave fan coil units can activate the anti-freeze protection independently from the set-tings of the master fan coil unit.

If anti-freeze protection is active on the master fan coil unit then even the slave fan coil units will assume the set point

Description of functions

The evolved electronic thermostat type VMF-E0DJ installed on the unit requires an internal interface to the fan coil unit (VMF-E2) or wall mounted (VMF-E4).

The thermostat is composed of:

• Type VMF thermostat board fitted within a protective box, complete with fused protection, dip-switch for configuration and connectors for connection to:- power supply - earth connection- valve control- fan-motor control- space temperature sensor- water temperature sensor- control panel (user interface)- external contact

- micro-switch connected to the louvres of the fan coil unit- fan coil unit serial network (TTL).

The thermostat allows control of:

• Three speed manual fan speed control.• Automatic fan mode as a function of

load.• Continuous or thermostatic ventilation

through control of the valves.• Display of season.• Display of alarms and ventilation

demand.• Up to two valves of ON/OFF type as

two or three way.• One sensor for air temperature.• One sensor for water temperature with

minimum and maximum temperature function.

• The change of season is decided by the user; opening or closing the louvres determines the operating mode:- louvres open = cooling mode - louvres closed = heating mode.

• Input for "external contact". This is a digital input with the following logic: - open = on - closed = off.

• Anti-freeze protection.• Communication with other thermo-

stats through a dedicated serial network based on the logic standard TTL.

12°C, independent from their ambient conditions.

During the anti-freeze protection opera-tion the fan coil units are always forced to work in heating mode.

In the case that the water temperature sensor is absent or if continuous venti-lation, the fan is always enabled.

In the case that the valve is present with water sensor mounted upstream, the pre-heating of the heat exchanger is still carried out.

• Ambient temperature sensorThe ambient temperature sensor is not

required on the slave because they can use the sensor on the master, although the ambient temperature sensor can be used on the slave to avoid the creation of a micro-climate.

If the ambient temperature sensor on the slave fan coil unit is faulty then in its absence the temperature read by the master sensor is used.

If the ambient temperature sensor on the master fan coil unit is faulty then the slave fan coil units not fitted with sen-sor will operate in emergency mode, whilst the fan coil units fitted with ambient temperature sensor will con-tinue to operate normally.

• Water temperature sensorThe unit is equipped with a water tem-

perature sensor in the heat exchanger. The fan coil unit can operate without

water sensor, and if absent (or faulty) the ventilation is always enabled.

- Installation in TTL networkThe slave fan coil unit can operate

without water sensor, and if absent (or faulty) the temperature reading is taken from the sensor on the master, in which case the slave fan coil unit ven-tilation is always enabled.

- Installation with valveTo position the bulb of the water tem-

perature sensor on the outlet tube upstream of the valve, the standard water sensor must be substituted with the accessory sensor VMF-SW.

The water temperature sensor can be positioned downstream or upstream of the control valve, and as a conse-quence the dip-switch on the board must be set. The difference consists in the control of ventilation of the fan coil units with valve.

Setting the dip-switch as sensor down-stream of the valve the ventilation is started based on the ambient air tem-perature.

Sett ing the dip-switch as sensor upstream of the valve the ventilation is started based on the water temperature of the system. This setting activates the pre-heating function and delayed start-ing of the ventilation, variable between 0” and 2’40”.

• Ambient sensor correctionTo obtain the best ambient temperature

control the thermostat applies correc-

tive algorithms of the ambient sensor mounted on the fan coil unit, which is influenced by being mounted in con-tact with the casing.

The dynamic correction is a corrective algorithm of the ambient sensor which takes into account the operating status of the fan coil unit. There are two pos-sible dynamic corrections available:

- Dynamic Correction B: for systems wi thout valve (or wi th sensor d o w n s t r e a m ) t h e c o r r e c t i o n depends on the water and ambient temperatures.

- Dynamic Correction A: for systems with valve and sensor upstream the correction depends on the valve and the water and ambient temperatures. Wi th respec t to the prev ious correction, this uses different time constants in calculating the correction to be applied (because the casing is affected differently).

• VentilationThe three speed ventilation can be con-

trolled both manually and automati-cally.

- Manual, selecting the speed V1, V2 and V3. The fan is cycled on-off at the selected velocity.

- Automatic, with selector in AUTO position. The speed of the fan is con-trolled as a function of the ambient conditions and the configuration of the fan coil unit.

Thermostat settings:- 3 level thermostat. AUTO selection. The ventilation speed

is maintained between the 3 prede-termined settings as a function of the difference between the ambient tem-perature and the set point. Once the set point is reached the ventilation is switched off.

- Modulating capacity thermostat. AUTO selection. The ventilation car-

ries out alternating velocity cycles as a function of the difference between the ambient temperature and set point. Once the set point is reached the ven-tilation is switched off. This setting is not compatible with continuous venti-lation control.

• Ventilation ControlVentilation settings:- Continuous ventilation. The ventilation

is always enabled. Temperature control is through interruption of the water flow to the fan coil unit.

WARNING: This function requires the water valve (accessory) and can-not be activated at the same time as the Modulating capacity thermostat option.

- Thermostatic ventilation. The ventila-tion is switched off on reaching the set temperature (set point).

• Valve control logicWith the settings Thermostatic ventila-

tion or Modulating capacity thermo-

stat the valve is controlled with the following logic:

- Heating, the valve is controlled to exploit the stack effect of the fan coil unit and distribute heat even with the ventilation switched off. These settings reduce the number of valve openings and closings, circulating hot water in the fan coil unit, and at the demand of the thermostat, ventilation is immedi-ate.

- Cooling, to best exploit the cooling capacity of the unit and effect more accurate control of the ambient tem-perature, the opening of the valve is phase-shifted with respect to the ven-tilation.

• External contactAn external contact is available on the

board to connect to. With the external contact closed the unit is configured as in the OFF position of the thermostat (except in the case of the thermostat being in Anti-freeze protection or that the ambient thermostat is absent or faulty). This contact can be used to as an input from a remote ON-OFF sig-nal, occupancy sensor, window con-tact, circulating pump failure signal, etc.

In networked fan coil units only the external contact of the master is ena-bled. When the input to the master is closed all the slave fan coil units on the network are switched off.

• Emergency functionIn the case of an ambient sensor failure

the electronic board is capable of automatically detecting it and adopt and emergency function, in order to avoid discomfort to the user whilst signalling the fault (illumination of the LED).

- Operation with water temperature sensor failure

The ventilation is always enabled. The enabling of operating mode is as a

function of the difference between the set temperature and the ambient tem-perature.

If the ambient temperature exceeds an interval equal to the dead band set in heating then it goes to cooling mode.

If the ambient temperature drops an interval equal to the dead band set in cooling then it goes to heating mode.

- Operation with ambient temperature sensor failure

Selector in OFF/Aux position:- ventilation is switched off- valve is closedSelector in AUTO, V1, V2, V3 position:- valve is always open- ventilation carries out On/Off cycles

of variable durations as a function of temperature setting position. The maximum duration of the cycle is 5'20".
