Pulmonary oedema: case reportA 59-year-old woman developed pulmonary oedema during
treatment with verapamil. The woman, who had a long historyof hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, was admittedwith dyspnoea and severe fatigue. She was administeredverapamil 50mg twice daily [route not stated]. On the third dayof admission, she reported worsening shortness of breath andshe developed tachypnoea. Her BP was 90/20mm Hg, and herarterial oxygen saturation was 62%. She received treatmentincluding intubation, ventilation and IV hydration. Verapamilwas withdrawn and was replaced by metoprolol succinate.Her condition improved and she was discharged.
