VI- Reading Comprehension and Summary Making(70 Marks(

Read the following passage carefully, then answer the questions below:

If you dont use your arms or your legs for sometimes, they become weak.

When you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows this and nobody would think of questioning this fact. Yet, there are many people who dont seem to know that the memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by exercising it regularly. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he means that he doesn't give it enough opportunity to become strong. The position is exactly the same as that of the two people, one exercises his arms, and legs by playing tennis; while the other sits in a comfortable armchair or in a motor-car all day. All normal human beings, if they have ordinary bodies and brains, improve their strength and their memory by the same means: Practice.

I've noticed this myself. In the past I used to memorize more than a hundred telephone numbers. I hardly used my telephone notebook to check for numbers However, as soon as I bought a data bank watch that can store up to a hundred telephone numbers, I completely depended on it and I really felt that my memory was getting weaker by the course of time. Have you noticed that people who can't read or write or even those who are blind have better memories than those who can? Those who can't read or write have to remember things; they can't put them down in a notebook. They have to remember dates, times, prices, names and stories. So their memory is being exercised all the time and is always kept active.

A strong memory depends on the health and vitality of your brain. There are many ways through which you can improve your memory.Treating your body well can enhance your ability to process and recall information. Physical exercise increases oxygen to your brain and reduces the risk for disorders that lead to memory loss. sleep is critical to learning and memory in an even more fundamental way. Research shows that sleep is necessary for memory consolidation. Stress is one of the brains worst enemies. Over time, if left unchecked, chronic stress destroys brain cells and damages the hippocampus, the region of the brain involved in the formation of new memories and the retrieval of old ones. Just as the body needs fuel, so does the brain. You probably already know that a diet based on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats (such as olive oil, nuts, fish) and lean protein will provide lots of health benefits, but such a diet can also improve memory

A) From a,b,c and d choose the right answer ( 6x6=36 )
