ACADEMY OF

ARCHITECTURE AND

CONSTRUCTION

The Academy of Architecture and Con-

struction at Huffman High School is one

of seven academies offered in the Bir-

mingham City School System. The

Academy at Huffman is a small learning

community of students who have

shown an overwhelming interest in the

areas of architecture and/or construc-

tion. The academy students are co-

horted in both their career and aca-

demic classes. Academy teachers work

together to ensure that all academy

students are equipped with the neces-

sary tools to take what they have

learned in the classroom setting out

into the world of work, either through

job shadowing experiences, paid or un-

paid internships, or volunteer work

throughout the community. Students

have the opportunity to gain industry

certifica-

tion, college

credit

through du-

al enroll-

ment clas-

ses, and

true hands-on work experience. The

ultimate goal of the academy is to

make sure that each student is college

and career ready.

The Huffman Experience About our program Course of Study

to prepare young people for college and

career success. For nearly 30 years, NAF

has refined a proven educational model

which includes industry-focused curricula,

work-based learning experiences, and

business partner expertise . NAF fosters

partnerships between the business and

education communities to provide op-

portunities to underserved students.

NAF’s 90% graduation rate and network
