Claude Monet was a founder of French impressionist painting, and the most consistent and prolific practitioner of the movement's philosophy of expressing one's perceptions before nature. Most of his paintings from 1883 until his death 40 years later were of scenes within 3 kilometres of his home. X is one of his most famous works.
