Recently, KSC’s Universal Solutions service

was officially launche - let’s find out

more about the Green Computing- the green,

environmentally responsible eco- technology.

Green Computing refers to environmentally

sustainable computing and maximizes energy

efficiency. Computing might not directly endanger

the environment but its packaging, amount of heat

produced and electricity consumed are undoubtedly

cause environmental impacts. The Green Technology

concept benefits us, our organization and also

the environment. Here are approaches to green

computing;

1. Virtualization Refers to the abstraction of

computer resources, such as the process of running

two or more logical computer systems on one

set of physical hardware. Once a computer is

working overload, the system then consolidates

new operations to other computers that are in

idle mode. This concept is like running a business

in during economic depression period, where the

business manager need to consider the operation

that benefits most at minimum cost and investment.

2. Terminal Servers Using this method, users

terminal in to a central server. All of the computing is

done at the server level but the end user experiences

the operating system. This technology is used in

the services including banking, insurance or in a

large-sized organization. However, the using of

Terminal Server is decreasing and replaced by the

Web Service.

3. Power Management This is directly related to

the Green Technology concept as it reduces energy

consumption and heat produced by IT products. The

concept is similar to the idea of the energy efficient

computer with 80 Plus standard can save up to 20%

of energy consuming.

4. Materials Recycling Even though most of the

computer parts and accessories can’t be recycled,

the we can maximize the use of these devices. No

need to have a new computer to operate the latest

software. A good maintenance that keeps all devices

working is also one of the Green IT approaches that

reduce global warming.

5. Telecommuting This approach is how we adapt

the remote communication technology, including

Video Conference and Teleconference to reduce face-

to-face meeting that consumes gasoline and time

spent on travelling. With Telecommuting, all content

including voice, video and data can be shared.

• Warm Site ระบบส�ารองสามารถท�างานไดเหมอนระบบ

Disaster Recovery Site (DR Site) is not a new thing to Internet users, but still, it’s important for your

organization. Technology Focus in this issue is updating you with basic ideas about the DR Site.

Disaster Recovery is very important to an IT driven business, because if the Internet system is interrupted, suspended or even corrupted from any causes - fire, earthquake, flood, building fell down or by terrorist - These could be great lost to an organization. Therefore the organization that relies on Internet connection usually values the disaster recovery.

One way to reduce the risk and bring the system back is to set up a DR site.

DR Site include these 5 options.

• Hot Site - A backup system that duplicates the main system. All data are kept in both sites. The back-up system is a mirror site to the main system. If any disaster occurs, we can switch to use the back-up system instantly. A disadvantage of this option is that the investment cost is high.

• Warm Site - A back-up system that operates similarly to the main system. With warm site recovery, there may be some data mirroring or replication although mostly restores will be done from a backup. However, it requires time to restore data from the main site.

• Cold Site - is the preparation of elements such as telephone line, floor ground, or the air-conditioner system. The computer installation will be done after experiencing disaster. Therefore it’s not a near-real-time backups for systems.

• Standby Site - An organization could prepare a back-up location but will not invest in computer settings until the disaster happens.

• Nothing - No preparation for disaster situation.

To choose the DR Site option, it depends on how the system is important to your organization and how serious your organization is at risk. You may consider to adapt the idea to implement in your organization.

skin, while 5-6 glasses of water per 1

day keep skin radiant. This is because

water maintains skin condition and

prevent flabby skin that may cause by

weight losing.

Take these food and you will have a

healthy skin. Expensive creams are not
