14 November 2019.

I wish all a good life. With a glorious path of growth and development, MAIT has established itself

as one of the sought after technological institute in the National Capital Region. As an institute we pay emphasis on outcome based learning and stress the

practical application of the theory in all our courses. Our state of the art labs helpthe students in augmenting their skill set for more goal oriented approaches. Thesuccess of an institute depends on the active co-operation of all our stakeholders;students, staff, faculty, parents and the management. We at MAIT believe inmaintaining a healthy ecosystem at the institute for a more productive symbiosisamong all our stakeholders.

In the words of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee, “Our ideal is to make thewidest provision for a sound liberal education , to find the correct synthesisbetween the cultural, vocational and technical training, remembering always thatno nation can ever achieve greatness by turning its youth into a mere machine-made product with nothing but a material end in view.” We continue to pursue thegoal of quality education in every endeavour at MAIT to build an institute ofInternational repute in future.

IEEE ADGITM, the official technicalsociety of ADGITM organised a 24 hrhackathon : T- HACKS 2.0 incollaboration with the CSE department. This year "Intelligent GreenhouseSystem" developed by the students of theECE Department, Muskaan Kapahi,Sarthak Chhabra, Simran Munjal andTushar Paul, under the guidance of Mr.Hemant Tulsiani secured first positionin the competition.

The competition was hosted by Akhilesh Das GuptaInstitute of Technology and Management, Delhi on 9th - 10thOctober 2019 and more than 35 teams from different collegesparticipated in this competition.Intelligent Greenhouse System

It will monitor the temperature, moisture, humidity andsunlight received by the plant and turn on fan, motor pump andlight bulb accordingly to keep the plant in an optimal condition.

ECE Students gets First Prize in Hackathonat ADGITM/NIEC

We have recorded the data providedby the sensors and prepared a datasetwhich is used to predict future values ofenvironmental variables using linearregression algorithms.

So with a large enough dataset wecan predict the nature of the plant'srequirements without the use of anysensors.

The data acquired is used in real timeto improve the accuracy of the sensors

as well as to expand the dataset. When applied on a large scale the number of sensors

deployed will reduce significantly as compared to a standardsmart green house as the algorithm used would predictcharacteristics of the whole greenhouse by taking minimalinput from the sensors.

This would help in reducing the amount of water consumed, electicity used as well as man-power required.

MHRD along with AICTEorganised SMART INDIAHACKATHON 2019, as a 5days hardware hackathon from8th July to 12th July 2019,conducted in 19 nodal centreacross India. Team FALCON7from MAIT participated in thetheme "Drone and Robotics" ,where they developed a prototype for the problem statement30 KG PAYLOAD CARRYING MULTIROTOR WITH AFLIGHT TIME OF 40-50 MINUTES, this problem statementwas proposed by BHARAT FORGE LTD.

The team's idea was shortlisted from over 150 proposaland they won first prize at the grand finale, winning a cashprize of 1lakh rupees. Team members:

flight time of 25-30 minuteautonomously with the help ofGPS. Vidyut is equipped withhighly sensitive air quality andgas leakage monitoringsystem. It can detect the levelof particulate matter PM2.5which will tell the quality of airin that particular area. Thedata collected can be recordedand transmitted wirelessly over a network and monitored froma distance. It can also detect the amount of particular gaseslike Petroleum and natural gas. The quad can hover near thegas pipelines continuously measure the amount of gas andtransmit it to monitoring station. If the value of gas exceedsfrom a safe amount it will immediately report it to the stationand will tell the exact location of leakage using a GPS. Thus, preventing any major disaster.

For the finals, the team developed an octacopter capableof carrying a heavy payload of 30kg with a high enduranceof 50minute. The octacopter has a unique design andrevolutionary battery system which is one of a kind.

The Upnishadas are ancient treatises, written in Sanskrit, containing the theosophy of the Vedas. They are often referredto as rahasya ,the mystery or secret, as being formerly taughtonly to those who had gone through a special preliminarytraining and given proof of their fitness; they are also calledshruti-shirh or the “head of revelation” handed down to theAryan inhabitants of India. The Vedas, as they existtoday, consist of four great collections:Rig,Yajur, Sama andAthrva Vedas;the word Veda is interpreted as “knowledge”or “science”. Each collection is subdivided into threeparts:mantra or hymns, brahmana or ceremonial codes; whenthey have fulfilled their duties and arnyaka or instructions forthose who in olden times used to retire to the forest (aranya)to follow the religious life. The Upnishads generally belong tothe last class who recite the hymns of all the nine Upnishadas:

1. Ishopanishad2. Kenopanishad3. Kathopanishad4. Prashnopanishad5. Mundkopanishad6. Mandukyopanishad7. Taittiriyopanishad8. Aitareyopanishad9. Shvetashvataropanishad

The Ishopanishad-The ArgumentThe Ishopanishad is so called from the first word of the

text.It forms the last chapter of the later collection of theYajurveda, calledShukla or White. The peace chant declaresthe identity or the universal Self and the individual self. Thoughall individual souls come from the Over-Soul, yet it remainsundiminished. Harih is the name of the Supreme in his aspectof “destroyer” of sins. Om receives full explanation in theMandukyopanishad.

The Upnishad begins by laying down the doctrine of actionwithout attachment to result-vairagya(1,2).

What people slay the Self, is a poetical expression forthose who are dead to the Self, for the Self is deathless ndcannot be slain, (3)

The nature of the Self is described: it ever escpes thesenses as life the scalpel of a biologist. (4, 5)

The state of one who knows this truth. (6,7)The description of the Self continued (8)

The paths of unwisdom andwisdom lead respectively to the heavenof reward within the spheres of rebirth, and to the enjoyment of a state ofexistence beyond this sphere. These arecharacterised respectively as ‘blinddarkness’ and even ‘greater darkness,as it were'as compared to the true stateof the Self; for in the one case,a man isstill under the influence of desire; in the other, although hemay enjoy an almost infinitely prolonged state of bliss as agod, nevertheless he has less chance of knowing the reality, which can only be known by one in the human state ofexistence. The crossing over death means crossing in safetyover the dangerous intermediate state between earth-life andthe heaven world,(9-14)

Next follows the invocation to the Self, addressed to thesun as the most glorious symbol of that Self in the sensibleuniverse. “He who is there, that being there, He is myself”-tradition says that the devotees here pointed first to orb ofthe rising sun,and then to the sky overhead, thus signifyingthat the light of the sun and the light of his soul were bothaspects of the supreme Light of all lights, Paramatman. (15,16)

The concluding mantras are for recitation at hour ofdeath. The last thoughts of a man have a great directingforce in his journey after death.Again it is the mind that carriesover the remembrance of past births. By fixing the mind onthis fact at the moent of death, the possibility of recollectionin the next birth is strengthened, (17-18)

Om! To Brhman that is, all hail!THE PEACE CHANT

Om! Whole is That, whole {too}is this. From whole, wholecometh; take whole from’Whole, (yet) whole remains.Om! PEACE, PEACE, PEACE! Harih, OmGod-ventured, Om! Must all this be, whatever chageth

in the changing (world); renounce it then, delight [in Him];nor covet{aught, for} whose is wealth. (1)

Here (on the earth) such deeds performing, a man shouldpass his hundred years; thus then for thee-there is no otherway-doth action not besmirch the man. (2)

Sunless they call those worlds, wrapped in blind darkness;

to them at death go they, what people slay the Self, (3)The one that moveth not (Though) swifter than the mind;

Who knoweth that all things are Self; for him what griefexisteth, what delusion, when [once] he gazeth on theoneness? (7)

He hath pervaded all, radiant and simple, spotless, pure, incorporate, by sin untainted. He, the seer, the lord of mind, the all embracer, self-existant; fitly hath He disposed theobjects (of all things for everlasting ages. (8)

Into blind darkness do they plunge who bow beforeunwisdom; to (even) greater darkness, as it were, they (go)who yet again in wisdom find delight. (9)

Truth's face is hidden by a disk of gold. Unveil, O thouthat nourishes [the world], that I the keeper of law of truth, maysee [thy face]. (15)

Breath to the deathless breath, to ashes may this bodygo! Om! Mind, [thy] deeds recall, recall,O mind, recall thydeeds, recall.(17)

O fire[divine] lead us by a fair path to our reward; O god

who knowest all our deeds, strip from us crooked evil! Tothee all hail oft nd again we cry! (18)Thus, the Upnishad has ending

In all the hymns we find (as they are meant for Arnyakas)the emphasis is on all good deeds so that not only this life (Ih-Lok) but also you will find salvation in 'Life-Beyond'(Per-Lok).

Frequent prayers are there to save us from the crookedevil ways of the world so our deeds will be sublime.

Prayers are for both movable(char) and immovable(achar) beings. It exhibits the concepts of sustainable worldwhere all beings are same in His eyes.

Prayers also exhibits the philosophy of (Addvait) i.e.oneness with Supreme-Being after leaving this world.Wisdom and Good deeds are the guiding force to attainSalvation.

Case-1On the worst day of the smoke, my college friend Shweta

Aggarwal living in Australia since 2017 remembers watchingambulances rushing through the streets just outside her housein a single hour. Her first thought was, how many people aregoing to die.It was early January. The Australian capital sawdays of poisonous air quality. And researchers say we don'tyet know what the long-term health effects will be.Therelationship between climate change, air pollution and humanhealth is inextricable. According to the studies risingtemperatures from climate change can increase air pollutants, such as ground level ozone. In recent years Australia hasexperienced more frequent bushfires and dust storms becauseof climate change. The most common air pollutants that aredangerous to human health are coarse and fine particulatematter (PM), nitrogen oxide, sulphur dioxide andcarbon monoxide.

What could be done……1. Avoid the consumption of gases

dangerous to the ozone layer2. Minimize the use of cars3. Do not use cleaning products that are

harmful to the environment4. Maintain air conditioners

Case-2New Delhi stands at first placefor having the

world's worst air quality index. Delhi being thecapital of India holds an important place on themap. Unfortunately for itscitizens, New Delhi's

air is fatal and is deteriorating day by day.The statistics are alarming. Specific to NewDelhi, the numbers of vehicles on the roadhave increased by sixty-five percent since2003. The more vehicles on the road meanthat there are more harmful pollutants whichare being released into the atmosphere.Another main cause of Delhi's air pollution is whole lot ofair-traffic passing through the city's atmosphere. Geographyalso plays a role in New Delhi's traumatic air pollution sinceit is surrounded by land from all sides. There is no coastalbreeze which can help in eliminating the pollutants.

Environmentalists suggest that the government mustfocus on bringing down the number of vehicles on the roadand strengthening the public transportation system. Schemeslike 'Odd-Even', 'Smog-Tower' are small steps towardimprovement, a lot more is needed to be done. The air needsto be restrained and it needs to be done now.

What could be done……1. Encourage public transportation2. Use of electrical automobiles3. alternative fuels for coal-fired plants to help reduce

the harmful emissions coal gives off4. strict environmental standards5. More thoughtful use of Solar-energy

6. Alternative for Stubble-burning

Oceans cover three-fourth of the Earth's surface. Marineecosystem provides food, employment, absorbs pollution andregulates the flood on land. Around 3 billion of 7.7 billionglobal populations depend on marine and coastal biodiversityfor their alimentation [1]. The market value of marine andcoastal resources is estimated at USD 3 trillion per year whichis about 5% of Global GDP [1]. 90% of the world trade and80% of the world's maritime oil trade is carried out throughseas [2]. India being a coastal country with a shoreline ofabout 7,517 km in length has compelling interests in oceanswhich include fishing, tourism, exploration, security and trade.India's 13.36% population lives in coastal districts withapproximately 250 million people depending on coastalbiodiversity for their livelihood [1].Other than economic aspects, oceans reduce the effects ofindustrialization by absorbing 40%of total carbon emissions everyyear [1]. According to a statementreleased by United NationsDevelopment Program (UNDP) in2019, tiny organisms called oceanplankton present in seas producehalf of the oxygen on earth [3]. Butunfortunately, the allure and endlessbenefits of marine souls are notenough to satisfy the avidity of humans.

Since industrialization is at peak in India, ocean bodiesexperience an inflow of tones of debris and plastic wastethrough rivers flowing from the mainland. India generates25,000 tonnesplastic every day of which 40% remainsuncollected [1]. A study in Nature Communications Journalranked Ganges as the world's second-biggest contributor toplastic waste into oceans [4]. India is ranked 12th among thetop 20 countries responsible for marine pollution [1]. Marinepollution costs more than $ 7.9 billion in damage to marineecosystems and kills around one million sea birds and 1,00,000sea mammals. Other than plastic, unregulated and over-exploitation of fish-stocks is a serious concern for India. Indiais the second-largest producer of fish in the world [1]. Fishingemploys a large population of India and is an important sourceof protein. Many Indian cultures are incomplete without fishlike West Bengal, Orissa, and South Indian states. Think of aday with no fish in India! Sounds unrealistic but this maybecome reality if overexploitation continued at present rates.

80% of the world's fisheries are alreadyexploited, depleted, or in a state ofcollapse [5]. According to live statisticsof 'The World Counts', as on 21 January2020, there were only 27 years 344 daysleft to the end of seafood [5]. This rapiddepletion is causing ocean fisheries togenerate USD 50 billion less per yearglobally [1]. At this time when India istrying to reach a value of USD 5 trillion GDP by 2025, thisdepletion is a serious threat. The big coastline makes it morecrucial for India to take steps in this area.

Whole world is coming together to fight against marinethreats and India has a chance toprove why a humongous ocean isnamed after her. Politically also itcan benefit India as China is tryingto maximize its influence in theIndian Ocean and with favorablemarine policies India can lead SouthAsian countries in this mission ofprotecting marine life, and thuscreating a limitless influence in theIndian ocean. India also needs tocreate a safer Sustainable coastalenvironment to boost tourism. Even

though India has a larger coastline than Thailand, still Thailandis able to grab more tourists than India annually. Recentdevelopments at the central level proved favorable in creatinga sustainable tourism sector. Flagship projects like SwatchBharat Abhiyan and NamamiGange got big recognitions.Sagarmala project or the Blue Revolution is working towardsimproving the state of India's ports and coastlines. A NationalPlan for the conservation of aquatic eco-systems was framedto conserve marine ecosystems. Union ministry is workingon a comprehensive study to find out the source of litter thatflows into seas. A national-level Oil spill disaster contingencyplan was released by the Indian coast guard intended towardspreservation of oceans from oil spills. India has also set up itsown Rs 100 crores valued 'Automated Ocean PollutionObservation System' that provides real-time data of the waterquality across Indian coasts. The world united when Amazonsburnt, but why less for oceans? Oceans yet have much moreto explore but we have to do something otherwise the gloryof marine life will end before their exploration.
