A big welcome also to our new families who have joined us this week, Imogen Turner in Rm 5, Taylor Parsons in room 2 and Jackson Ward in Rm 5. We hope everyone had a wonderful relaxed, albeit a bit cold, holiday. We have a busy time ahead of us this term with the cross country (both our own and those further afield for the keen runners), speeches and the return of the famous Election Café and of course the lead up for the kids for the Calf Club in Term 4. Lots of preparation needed for these awesome events so let the fun begin. Have a wonderful weekend and good luck to all the sports teams who will be back into it this weekend after the holidays. FRANKLIN VETS VISIT On Tuesday we had a visit from Liz who spoke to the whole school about pets for Calf Club. We learned how to look after an animal and what it needs. We would like to thank Liz for speaking to us. We would like to encourage all students to have a pet lamb, calf or goat for our Term 4 Calf Club. If you have any questions about this please do not hesitate to contact the school. SCHOOL SPEECHES This involves students from Year 3 – Year 6. During this term students will be busy writing speeches in class. Our class finals will be on the 31 August followed by school finals on the evening of the 6th September. If students are chosen to compete in the Hauraki Plains Interschool Competition, this is on Thursday 14th September. AOTEAROA – A NEW ZEALAND ROCK MUSICAL. We are very grateful to Te Kauwhata College for inviting us to a free performance of their school production on Wednesday next week. We will travel to Te Kauwhata by bus and car. Please make sure your permission slip is back by Monday 31 July at the latest. AMERICA’S CUP On Wednesday, the Trailblazers went to TK College and saw the America's Cup that New Zealand won. First Grant Dalton walked in and some of the college kids did a powhiri for him. Next they all did a song and haka about Te Kauwhata, then Grant Dalton spoke about fair play and the sailing rules. When he had finished speaking we got a photo with him and the trophy. We even got to touch it!!! It was a lot bigger that we expected it to be. If it was on the ground it probably would have been nearly as tall as us! It was so cool, my highlight was touching the trophy. By Lucy Hosking A huge thank you to all the parents who helped with transport and made it possible for us to go - especially with such short notice!! Grant promised Year 9’s Daniel Over a school visit if NZ won the cup. Wednesday was the fulfillment of that promise.
