The first three Padey beautifully show that an ordinary mortal

does not stand a chance to fight against the king mind who is

heavily intoxicated by Maya.

Once the mortal seeks God’s intervention, everything changes in

favor of the Jeev as described in the last three Padey.

ਪਰੇਮ ਪਲੀਤਾ, ਸੁਰਕਤ ਹਵਾਈ, ਗੋਲਾ ਕਗਆਨੁ ਚਲਾਇਆ ॥ ਬਰਹਮ ਅਗਕਨ ਸਹਜੇ ਪਰਜਾਲੀ, ਏਕਕਹ ਚੋਟ ਕਸਝਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ (But when I came to God’s sanctuary) and made the divine love of God the fuse (for

the cannon), lifted the cannon of attentiveness, and fired this cannon that was loaded

with the cannon ball of spiritual wisdom (of the Guru),

the fire of God (i.e., longing for God in lieu of worldly desires) was lit through inner

poise, and with a single shot (of the cannon), the fortress was easily taken (i.e., achieved success in crumbling the entire fortress). ]4]

ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਲੈ ਲਰਨੇ ਲਾਗਾ, ਤੋਰੇ ਦੁਇ ਦਰਵਾਜਾ ॥ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਕਤ ਅਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਕਰਪਾ ਤੇ, ਪਕਕਰਓ ਗਢ ਕੋ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੫॥ Taking truth and contentment with me, I began the battle (i.e., against the army of

anger, greed, etc.), stormed both the doors (sin and virtue) and tore them down.

In the Saadh-Sangat (the company of the Guru’s congregations) and by Guru’s Grace, I have captured the king (rebelling mind) of the fortress. ]5]
