Queridas hermanas, En nombre de Mexican American Catholic Co-llege les doy la bienvenida y les agradezco que se unan a nosotros en Weaving Cultures ~ Entrelazando Culturas. El verano de 2018 inició nuestro viaje compartido al res-ponder a lo que llamamos las oportunidades y desafíos de la vida religiosa en el siglo XXI, es decir, el trabajo intencional y comprometido de la vida intercultural. Como todos hemos presenciado en estos últi-mos meses de agitación, las oportunidades y desafíos seguirán llegando y son recordatorios impactantes del trabajo que debemos proseguir. Estos son, en efecto, tiempos sin precedentes. El año 2020 será conocido por siempre como el año en que nació una "nueva nor-malidad" del COVID-19 y el grito de justicia de nues-tros hermanos y hermanas que han soportado la mayor parte de esta pandemia sanitaria y social. Han reconocido los signos de nuestros tiempos y han respondido yendo más allá de lo normal. Están tomando medidas para construir la comunión entre sus miembros y así abrazar el rostro cambiante de la vida religiosa y de la comunidad en general. Este tipo de tra-bajo de transformación no ha sido fácil y seguirá siendo un desafío. Estamos agradecidos de poder compartir este viaje que nos ha permitido a todos profundizar en la calidad de nuestras relaciones y nos impulsa a vivir nuestra misión de manera intercultural. El mundo nece-sita su alegre testimonio —el testimonio de la unidad en la diversidad—las muchas partes y, sin embargo, un solo cuerpo de Cristo. Les aseguramos nuestras oraciones. Dear Sisters, On behalf of the Mexican American Catholic College I welcome you and thank you for joining us in Weaving Cultures ~ Entrelazando Culturas. The sum-mer of 2018 initiated our mutual journey as you re-sponded to what we referred to as the opportunities, and challenges of religious life in the 21st century—namely, the intentional and committed work of inter-cultural living. As we have all witnessed in these past months of unrest, the opportunities and challenges continue to come and are shocking reminders of the work we must continue. These are indeed unprecedented times. The year 2020 will forever be known as the year when a “new normal” was birthed from COVID-19 and the cry for justice from our brothers and sis-ters who have borne the brunt of this health and so-cial pandemic. You have recognized the signs of our times and respond by going beyond business as usual. You are taking steps to build communion among your members to embrace the changing face of religious life and the community at large. This kind of trans-formative work has not been easy and will continue to be challenging. We are grateful to be able to share this journey that has enable us all to deepen the quality of our relationships and propel us to live our mission interculturally. Joan F. Neal, M.A. Pastoral Studies. Joan F. Neal has a wide range of experience in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, particularly with faith-based institutions. She is the Former Vice President and Chief Planning Officer at Cabrini College (now University) in Radnor, Pennsylvania where she oversaw key institutional planning processes and Mission Integration. Prior to joining Cabrini, she was Executive Vice President at Catholic Relief Services, the US Catholic Church’s international relief and development agency in Baltimore, Maryland. There she founded the U.S. Operations division and developed and led the agency’s strategy for outreach to Catholics in the United States. Currently, Ms. Neal volunteers as the Senior Fellow for Government Relations and Strategy at NET-
WORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice. As an independent organizational development consultant, in addition to her own clientele, she also worked with the Reid Group to execute a pastoral planning process for the Archdiocese of New York. Before relocating to the East Coast, she was Associate Director of Leadership Greater Chicago, Vice President & Branch Man-ager at the First National Bank of Chicago and Vice President of Public Affairs at Harris/Bank of Montreal, among other lead-ership positions in the financial services industry. Ms. Neal serves as a member of the Boards of the Center for Migration Studies of New York, the Mexican American Catholic College in San Antonio, and Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, where she is a Life Trustee. She is also a former member of the Boards of Jesuit Refugee Services and the National Catholic Reporter. She holds a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies as well as a Certificate in Biblical Spirituality from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Loyola University (Chicago, IL).
S. Addie Lorraine Walker, SSND, Ph.D., has been a School Sister of Notre Dame for 40 years. She served as provincial leader of the Dallas Province of SSND for nine years (2002-2011) before the merger into the Central Pacific Province of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Currently, she serves as Professor of Practical/Pastoral Theology at Oblate School of Theology. She teaches courses in both the Master's and Doctor of Ministry levels, including US Religious History, Spirituality and Culture, Faith Development, Christology, and Black Church Studies. She is the founder and Director of the Sankofa Institute for Afri-can American Pastoral Leadership, established in 2013 at Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio, TX. Following the completion of a Ph.D. in Religion and Education from Boston College in 1996, S. Addie Lorraine has continued to minister as a pastoral and practical theologian in university, high school, and
parish settings. She also works as facilitator and teacher/formator in seminary formation and with initial/ongoing formation programs for religious congregations. She gives lectures on charism, offers retreats, and does spiritual direction with religious congregations throughout the US and Africa. S. Addie Lorraine is committed to working with intercommunity formation programs whenever possible. Since 2000, she has worked to provide workshops on vowed life, discernment, community life, and intercultural living within religious community life. She also facilitates retreats for various congregations, seminars on the contemporary living of the vows, and religious com-munity life today: building communities of peace, justice, and reconciliation. In response to the Black Lives Matter movement and the widespread racial unrest in the US, S. Addie Lorraine is facilitating several groups to actively identify racist policies and structures and become active, intentional antiracists. S. Addie Lorraine is one of the contributing authors to the 2014 publication on the Apostolic Visitation, Power of Sisterhood: Women Religious Tell the Story of the Apostolic Visitation. Her other current research and writing interests include spirituality and cul-ture, SSND spirituality, the spirituality of religious life today, formation for a contemporary living of religious life, Christian Education in the 19th and 20th centuries, reading and reflecting on Catholic Social Teaching from a Black Perspective, and dia-logue as a strategy for transformative education.
Sr. Nicole Trahan, FMI, a native of Orange, Texas, is a member of the Daughters of Mary Immaculate (Marianists) and cur-rently lives in Dayton, Ohio. Sr. Nicole serves her congregation as a member of the provincial leadership team, vocations direc-
tor and director of the pre-novitiate program. She is also a part-time campus minister at Chaminade Ju-lienne Catholic High School. With masters degrees in Catholic School Leadership and Pastoral Ministry, Sr. Nicole has a background in teaching theology/religion on the secondary level, collegiate and secondary campus ministry, retreat design and leadership, and spiritual accompaniment. She has a passion for faith formation and leader-ship development, especially of young people. This passion is equally matched by her dedication to seeking justice. She is also a regular contributor to National Catholic Reporter’s Global Sisters Report and en-joys writing on various topics.

Joan F. Neal, Maestría en Estudios Pastorales. Joan F. Neal tiene una amplia experiencia de trabajo en orga-nizaciones con y sin fines de lucro, particularmente con Instituciones religiosas. Fungió como Vicepresidenta y Directora de planificación del Cabrini College (ahora Universidad) en Radnor, Pensilvania, donde supervisó los principales procesos de planificación institucional y la Integración de la Misión. Antes de unirse a Cabrini Co-llege, fue Vicepresidenta Ejecutiva de Catholic Relief Services, la agencia de ayuda y desarrollo internacional de la Iglesia Católica de los Estados Unidos en Baltimore, Maryland. Allí fundó la división de operaciones de EE.UU. y desarrolló y dirigió la estrategia de la agencia para entrar en contacto con los católicos en los Estados Unidos.

La Hna. Addie Lorraine Walker, SSND, Ph.D., ha sido una Hermana Educadora de Notre Dame (Nuestra Señora) por 40 años. Prestó su servicio en el liderazgo provincial de la Provincia de Dallas de su Congregación durante nueve años (2002-2011) antes de la fusión en la Provincia del Pacífico Central de las Hermanas Educa-doras de Notre Dame. Addie Lorraine está comprometida en trabajar con programas de formación intercomunitaria siempre que sea posible. Des-de el año 2000, ha ofrecido talleres sobre Vida Consagrada, Discernimiento, Vida Comunitaria y la Vida Intercultural dentro de las Comunidades Religiosas. También facilita retiros para varias Congregaciones, seminarios sobre la Vivencia Actual de los votos y la Vida Religiosa en comunidad en la actualidad: consturyendo comunidades de paz, justicia y reconciliación. En respuesta al movimien-to Black Lives Matter y a los disturbios raciales generalizados en los Estados Unidos, la Hna. Addie Lorraine asesora a varios grupos para que identifiquen activamente las políticas y estructuras racistas y se conviertan en antirracistas intencionales y activos. La Hna. Addie Lorraine es una de las autoras que ha contribuido a la publicación de 2014 sobre la Visita Apostólica, Poder de la Sorori-dad: Religiosas cuentan la Historia de la Visita Apostólica. La Hna. Nicole Trahan, FMI, originaria de Orange, Texas, es miembro de las Hijas de María Inmaculada (Marianistas) y actual-mente vive en Dayton, Ohio. La Hna. Nicole sirve en su congregación como miembro del equipo de liderazgo provincial, directora

Nicole tiene experiencia en la ense-ñanza de teología/religión a nivel de secundaria, Pastoral de Adolescentes y Universitaria, diseño y dirección de retiros y acompañamiento espiritual. Le apasiona la formación en la fe y el desarrollo del lide-razgo, especialmente de los jóvenes. Esta pasión se une a su dedicación a la búsqueda de la justicia. También contribuye regularmente al National Catholic Reporter’s Global Sisters Report y disfruta escribiendo sobre varios temas.

Dr. John Chitakure holds a D.Min from the Catholic Theological Union, Chicago, Illinois, MA in Reli-gious Studies, BA (Honors) in Religious Studies, Diploma in Religious Studies, and Graduate Certificate in Education, all from the University of Zimbabwe. Currently, he is an Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology at The Mexican American Catholic College, San Antonio, Texas. Prior to his coming to the USA, he taught several religious studies courses at Arrupe College, Chishawasha Seminary, Holy Trinity College, and Wadzanai National Catechetical Center, all in Zimbabwe. He is the author of The Pursuit of the Sacred (2016), Shona Women in Zimbabwe—A Purchased People? (2016), and African Tradi-tional Religion Encounters Christianity: The Resilience of a Demonized Religion (2017).

Denhi Ekiaka Rodriguez, is 20 years old, currently in her third year of studying Biological Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She was born in Mexico City, Mexico, and came to the United States with her parents at the age of 2. Denhi is a member of her parish’s choir and is a founding mem-ber of the Young Adult Group. She is also very active at UTSA’s Catholic Student Ministry; is part of ministry team this year and oversees coordinating music at their meetings, as well as helping run the women’s group at the student center. Denhi plays guitar, violin, and sings, and enjoys using her musical talent for the glory of the Lord! ¡Hola! Mi nombre es Denhi Ekiaka Rodriguez. Tengo 20 años, actualmente estoy en mi tercer año de
estudios de Ciencias Biológicas en la Universidad de Texas en San Antonio. Nací en la Ciudad de México, México, y vine a los Estados Unidos con mis padres a la edad de 2 años. Formo parte del coro de mi parroquia y soy miembro fundador de nuestro Grupo de Jóvenes Adultos. También soy muy activa en el Ministerio Estudiantil Católico de la UTSA; soy parte del equipo del ministerio este año y superviso la coordinación de la música en nuestras reuniones, además de ayudar a dirigir el grupo de muje-res en el centro estudiantil. Toco la guitarra, el violín y canto, y disfruto usando mi talento musical para la gloria del Señor.
Dr. Valentin Ekiaka Nzai is an associate professor at the Mexican American Catholic College. He stud-ied philosophy (Philosophate St Agustin - Asuma, Congo DRC); sacred theology for priesthood (Jesuit Colegio Maximo Cristo Rey, Mexico); MBA (Centro de Estudios Avanzados, Mexico); M.S. in leadership education (University of Nebraska – Lincoln); doctorate of education (University of Nebraska-Lincoln); M.A. in pastoral theology (Oblate School of Theology, San Antonio, TX) and upcoming doctorate stud-ies in pastoral ministry, summer 2016, (Oblate School of Theology, San Antonio, TX). He has proficiency and fluency in eight languages and has worked as an elementary teacher and faculty in Africa, the Caribbean, Mexico, Taiwan and USA. He has authored more than 40 publications in peer-review journals, presented in national and international venues as a lead-presenter, keynote/featuring
speaker. He is the editor-in-chief of Virtual Multilingual Journal, Et Anima Una Journal (June 2016), Cor Unum Journal (July 2016) and Marriage & Family Koinonia Journal (August 2016). He also worked as a missionary in the Dominican Republic and Mexi-co. He is a certified marriage and divorce spiritual coach and author of Koinonia Retreats® . La Hna. Mercedes Leticia Casas Sán-chez, Hija del Espíritu Santo, es mexicana de nacimiento, pero tiene un corazón misionero que va más allá de las fronteras. Durante sus 46 años de vida religiosa ha vivido en Méxi-co, Italia, Bolivia, Chile y Estados Unidos. Ha sido maestra de religión en escuelas pri-marias y secundarias, así como formadora de postulantes y novicias por ocho años. Fue además Coordinadora General del Instituto de Forma-ción para Religiosas (INTER) en la Cd. de México. Su Congregación la envió a fundar una comunidad en el Alto, Bolivia, trabajando con indígenas aymaras. Des-pués le pidieron fundar otra comunidad en Santiago de Chile, apoyando especialmente la formación para laicos de la Arquidiócesis. En Chile acompañó también una comunidad de base en un barrio marginal y formó parte de la Facultad del Instituto de formación de CONFE-RRE. De 2005 a 2017 fue Superiora General de su Congrega-ción y Vicepresidente, por tres años, de la CIRM (Conferencia de Superiores Mayores de Religiosos de México). Formó parte de la Presidencia de la CLAR (Confederación Latinoamericana de Religiosos), prime-ro como Vicepresidente de 2009 a 2012, y después co-mo Presidente de 2012 a 2018. Ha acompañado a Capítulos Generales, Ejercicios Espi-rituales e impartido temas de vida consagrada a varias Congregaciones y países. Estudió el Bachillerato en Filosofía y Teología, en la Universidad Pontificia de México y en la Universidad Urbaniana de Roma; realizó estudios del Magister en Patrología, en la Universidad Católica de Chile. En noviembre del 2017 se integró a la comunidad de San Antonio TX., en donde sirvió en MACC (Mexican American Catholic College). En septiembre de 2018 recibió la invitación de la CIVCSVA (Congregación pa-ra los Institutos de Vida Consagrada y las Sociedades de Vida Apostólica) para trabajar en el Dicasterio para la Vida Consagrada, dada su amplia experiencia y conoci-miento de la Vida Religiosa Latinoamericana. Por ello se trasladó a Roma, en donde actualmente reside.

Sister Mercedes Leticia Casas Sánchez, Daughter of the Holy Spirit, is Mexican by birth, but has a missionary heart that goes be-yond borders. During her 46 years of religious life she has lived in Mexico, Italy, Bolivia, Chile and the United States. She has been a religion teacher in primary and secondary schools, as well as a formator of postulants and novices for eight years. She
was also the General Coordinator of the Institute of Formation for Religious (INTER) in Mexico City,. Her Congregation sent her to found a community in El Alto, Bolivia, working with the indigenous Aymara peo-ple. Later she was asked to found another community in Santiago, Chile, supporting especially the formation of lay people in the Archdiocese. In Chile she also accom-panied a “base community” in a poor and neglected neighborhood and was part of the Faculty of the Insti-tute of Formation of CONFERRE. From 2005 to 2017, she was Superior General of her Congregation and Vice President of the CIRM (Conference of Major Superiors of Religious in Mexico) for three years. She was part of the Presidency of CLAR (Confederation of Latin American Religious), first as Vice President from 2009 to 2012, and then as President from 2012 to 2018. She has accompanied General Chapters, Spiritual Exer-cises and presented themes of consecrated life to several Congregations and countries. She studied for her Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology at the Pontifical University of Mexico and at the Urbaniana University in Rome. She also earned a Master’s degree in Patrologia at the Catholic University of Chile. In November 2017, he joined her religious community in San Antonio, Texas, where she served at MACC (Mexican American Catholic College). In September 2018, she received an invitation from the CICLSAL (Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life) to work in the Dicastery for Consecrated Life, given her extensive experience and knowledge of Religious Life in Latin America. Sr. Mer-cedes currently resides in Rome.

Panel y Reflecciones “I can’t breathe” “No puedo respirar” será el marco de nuestro foro. Nos tomaremos un tiempo para escuchar a nues-tras hermanas y reflexionar sobre este momento histórico. Nuestras invitadas compartirán sus reflexiones sobre cómo la pandemia COVID19 expuso las divisiones raciales y de clase en nuestras comunidades, la experiencia de ser negra y ca-tólica, y los recientes acontecimientos que nos han recordado de manera impactante que, aquellos que son atacados por su raza, no pueden respirar en este status quo mortal.

Oración de la mañana Iniciemos nuestra mañana de reflexión poniéndonos en presencia de Dios Trinidad: Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. Invoquemos en nuestro interior al Espíritu para que nos abra el corazón al don de la Palabra de Dios.
