一.完型填空试题主要特点:1. 通常从一篇 300词左右文章中设空 20个,首句不挖空;

a.忽略文章首句的提示作用;

b.忽略文章中上下文之间的照应关系;

It was a busy morning, about 8:30,when an elderly gentleman in his 80s came to the hospital ............

A man who knows how to write a personal letter has a very powerful tool. A letter can be enjoyed,

read and 21 ............

I met Mrs. Neidl in the ninth grade on a stage-design team for a play and she was one of the directors.

Almost instantly I loved her. She had an unpleasant voice and a direct way of speaking, 36 she was

encouraging and inspiring. For some reason, she was impressed with my work and me.

Mrs. Neidl would ask me for my 37 . She wanted to know how I thought we should 38 things. At

first I had no idea how to answer because I knew 39 about stage design! But I slowly began to respond to

her 40 . It was cause and effect: She believed I had opinions, so I began to 41 them. She trusted me to

complete things, so I completed them perfectly. She loved how 42 I was, so I began to show up to paint

more and more. She believed in me, so I began to believe in myself.

Mrs. Neidl's 43 that year was, "Try it. We can always paint over it 44 !"I began to take 45 . I had

been so afraid of failing but suddenly there was no failing--only things to be 46 upon. I learned to dip my

brush into the paint and 47 create something.

The shy, quiet freshman achieved success that year. I was 48 in the program as "Student Art

Assistant" because of the time and effort I'd put in. It was that year that I 49 I wanted to spend the rest

of my life doing stage design.

Being on that stage-design team 50 Mrs. Neidl changed me completely. Not only was I stronger and

more competent than I had thought, but I also 51 a strong interest and a world I hadn't known existed.

She taught me not to 52 what people think I should do: She taught me to take chances and not be 53 .

Mrs. Neidl was my comforter when I was upset. Her 54 in me has inspired me to do things that I never

imagined 55 .

Another person’s enthusiasm was what set me moving toward the success I have achieved. That person

was my stepmother.

I was nine years old when she entered our home in rural Virginia. My father 36 me to her with these

words: “I would like you to meet the fellow who is 37 for being the worst boy in this county and will

probably start throwing rocks at you no 38 than tomorrow morning.”

My stepmother walked over to me, 39 my head slightly upward, and looked me right in the eye.

Then she looked at my father and replied,“You are 40 . This is not the worst boy at all, 41 the smartest

one who hasn’t yet found an outlet(释放的途径)for his enthusiasm.”

That statement began a(n) 42 between us. No one had ever called me smart. My family and

neighbors had built me up in my 43 as a bad boy . My stepmother changed all that.

She changed many things. She 44 my father to go to a dental school, from which he graduated with

honors. She moved our family into the county seat, where my father’s career could be more 45 and my

brother and I could be better 46 .

When I turned fourteen, she bought me a secondhand 47 and told me that she believed that I could

become a writer. I knew her enthusiasm, I 48 it had already improved our lives. I accepted her 49 and

began to write for local newspapers. I was doing the same kind of 50 that great day I went to interview

Andrew Carnegie and received the task which became my life’s work later. I wasn’t the 51 beneficiary (受益者). My father became the 52 man in town. My brother and stepbrothers became a physician, a dentist,

a lawyer, and a college president.

I used to hate being called upon in class mainly because I didn’t like attention drawn to myself. And

36 otherwise assigned(指定)a seat by the teacher, I always 37 to sit at the back of the classroom.

I practiced and practiced. Soon I knew the 49 and the “moves”. Being part of a team was fun and

motivating. Very soon the competitive 50 in me was winning over my lack of confidence. With time, I

Although I love my life, it hasn’t been a lot of fun as I’ve been ill for 28 years.

lot to you, doesn’t it?” he said. “Come with me.”

I often hear people 32 about their surroundings. If you are one of them, I would say the only way to

The concept of solitude ( 独 处 ) in the digital world is almost non-existent. In the world of digital

technology, e-mail, social networking and online video games, information is meant to be 36 . Solitude can

be hard to discover 37 it has been given up. In this respect, new technologies have 38 our culture.

The desire to be connected has brought solitude to a(n) 39 as we’ve known it. People have become so

Today we can talk, text, e-mail, chat and blog ( 写 博 客 ), not only from our 42 , but from our mobile

A Leap(跳跃)to Honor

Leaping on a narrow balance beam(平衡木)is not easy. But Lola Walter, a 13-year-old gymnast, is an

expert at it.

To perfect her skills, Lola 36 for four hours a day, five days a week. At the state championships in

March, she finished seventh out of 16 girls.

That’s especially impressive, 37 she is legally blind, born with a rare condition that causes her eyes

to shift(移动)constantly. She often sees double and can’t 38 how far away things are.

When she was little, her mom 39 that even though she couldn’t see 40 , she was fearless. So her

has double vision, she often sees two beams. She must use her sense of touch to help her during her routine.

Sometimes she even closes her eyes.“You have to 45 your mind that it’ll take you where you want to

go.”says Lola.

To be a top-level gymnast, one must be brave. The beam is probably the most 46 for anyone

because it’s four inches wide. At the state competition, Lola didn’t fall 47 the beam. In fact, she got an

8.1 out of 10—her highest score yet.

Lola doesn’t want to be 48 differently from the other girls on her team.At competitions, the judges

don’t know about her vision 49 .She doesn’t tell them, because she doesn’t think they need to know. Her

mom is amazed by her 50 attitude.

Lola never thinks about 51 . She is presently at level 7 while the highest is level 10 in gymnastics.

Her 52 is to reach level 9.She says she wants to be a gymnastics coach to pass down what she’s learned

to other kids 53 she grows up.

“Look,it’s a Baldy!”A boy shouted in my direction across the playground. Even though I was used to

regular insults(侮辱)because of the 11 on my head, it was 12 horrible to hear. I sighed as I headed

back to the class.

When I was just 20 months old, I suffered serious 13 after a bowl full of hot oil fell on my head. I

was 14 to hospital and had to stay there for weeks while the doctors 15 to save my life. “Holly’s very

16 to be alive, ”they told Mum and Dad. “But she’ll be 17 with scars on her head, and of course her

hair won’t grow there. ”

As a child, I cared much about my scars, so I 18 wore a scarf to cover them up when I left home.

19 I didn’t, people would call me horrible names like Baldy. Although my friends were always comforting

me, they never 20 understood how it felt.

Then through the hospital I was 21 to a children’s burns camp, where children like me can get any

help. There, I 22 14-year-old Stephanie, whose burns are a lot more serious than mine. But she is so

23 that she never lets anyone put her down. “You shouldn’t 24 what people say about what you look

like because we’re not different from anyone else, Holly, ”she 25 me. “And you don’t need to wear a

scarf because you look great 26 it!”For the first time in my life I could speak to someone who’d been

through something 27 . So weeks later, at my 13th birthday party, 28 by her bravery, I gave up my

scarf and showed off my scars. It felt amazing not having to 29 away behind my scarf.

Now, I am 30 of what I look like and much happier, because I have realized it is your

My grandmother became a widow in 1970. Shortly after that, we went to the 31 shelter to pick out a

she came home from the hospital, she and Penny were 37 companions.

After her stroke, it became a real 38 for Grandma to let Penny in and out because 39 was at the

bottom of a flight of stairs. So a mechanism(机械装置)using a rope and pulley(滑轮)was 40 from

If the store was 41 Penny’s favorite dog food, Grandma would make one of us 42 Penny browned beef

loving companionship, Grandma and Penny passed away within a few hours of each other.

Culture shock is a complex topic, but I'm a simple man with simple perspectives. So my experience of

foreign culture boils down to three basic stages: anger, acceptance and appreciation.

When I __16__ my life in China I was often filled with frustration and __17__over the way things were.

Things were seen as clearly “__18__” and I rejected the view of there being other ways of doing things.

Afterwards I came to __19__different ways of doing things __20__still saw my own ways as superior.

My views were still heavily colored by __21__and I often accepted situations I felt __22__by simply

coining the phrase "That's China," __23__ China was a backward country that simply didn't do things

correctly. Finally, __24__, I came to understand and appreciate the new __25__ and ways of doing things,

sometimes using them as effectively as the__26__.

For example, fish is never __27__ with the head in my country, thus my feelings went from “Ugh! I

can’t eat this! The fish is __28__at me saying, `You're a __29__ man.' Take this off the table,” to “I’ll let my

friends enjoy, but I'll just stick with the other__30__,” and to "Would anyone mind if I eat the eyeball?"

It is not the same with every westerner, and some take __31__ than others to go through the three

stages. It all depends on how __32__you are and how tightly you __33__to your own culture. It took a little

over a year of living in China __34__ I finally appreciate the new culture. Now, I'm more __35__in China

than in my own country.
