目的:このアクティビティの目的は、「Is / Are there〜?」という質問の形、読み取り、理解、応答を練習することです。また、特定の場所/設定に関連する語彙を増やすこと

Materials: Question card, five pictures of different places (one picture for each student)

Procedure:

1. Greeting2. Discussion

a. Show students pictures of the five different places, one at a time.b. Make a word list for each place. As students name the things they can see in

the pictures, write the words on the board.c. After making the word list, students will name each place.d. Give each student a question card. Go through how to form questions with

“Is/Are there~?” and how they can respond fittingly.3. Activity Proper

a. Tape a picture on each student’s back. Explain that it shows where they are and that they are in one of the four places you discussed. You may use one of the five places for demonstration.

b. The task is to find out where they are by asking the questions on their question card. The questions will help them figure out where they are.

c. When students have finalized their questions, pair them up.d. Student A looks at the picture on Student B’s back. Student B asks Student A

questions from their question card. Student B must listen to Student A’s answers and circle them on the card.

e. When Student B has asked all the questions, they have to write where they think they are at the bottom of the question card. Student A will verify their answer.

f. You may redistribute the pictures and have the students repeat the activity with a new partner.

4. Feedbacka. Give students feedback. Discuss strong points and areas for improvement.

For the vocabulary, you may use different ways to present new words and/or gather words from the students. As for my class, pictures were shown using PowerPoint. Several items were numbered, and students named each item (see picture). Then they were asked to name more things they can see in the pictures. When students name the items/places, write all acceptable answers on the board.

For the pictures, it is better to include places that can be easily recognized by the students like their classroom, science laboratory, or library. This will encourage participation in the discussion.
