PORTUGAL James and Heather Cochrane send the following prayer requests:- Pray for the Sunday gatherings, that they would be God worshipping and

accessible to those invited. Pray for a property for rent in a central visible location. Give thanks for the encouragements of English Night and pray that James and

Heather will know how best to deepen these relationships. ITALYAlan and Tracey Johnston report that the Sola Gazia church building where they meet and fellowship together, has had a bit of a makeover with a new library and sitting area to create a more welcoming atmosphere.  The TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign language) classes are going well, with around 24 people now attending.  Pray for the Sola Grazia Church members to be filled with the Word of God

and with His Spirit, so they can serve and lead others to Christ. Pray for the congregation as numbers continue to grow slowly. Pray for the English classes to go well and for opportunities to share the

Gospel. ROMANIAThe number of socially disadvantaged children cared for by the Diakonia Mission of the Reformed Church in Hungary rose to over 500 in September this year.  In each of the 15 centres throughout Bihar and Cluj counties, at least two members of staff teach and assist the children and their families. Pray for the staff (including Ilona Veres) and volunteers who make themselves

available at the beginning and end of the school day for prayer and counselling. A number of children have come for prayer because of family conflicts.

Pray for the staff as they seek to point the children to the Saviour and for the children to find peace at the Cross and a source of stability and love in their lives as they trust the Saviour.

SOUTH SUDANIn August PCI Moderator, Rt Rev Dr Michael Barry, launched an Appeal, to help those in need of emergency food aid, water and medical treatment in South Sudan.  So far, over £183,000 has come in from PCI congregations and individuals towards the Appeal!   This has been distributed to Christian Aid, Tearfund and the Presbyterian Relief and Development Agency (PRDA) of the Presbyterian Church of South Sudan.

Rev Uel Marrs, Overseas Secretary writes, “It is so encouraging to witness yet again the generosity of many throughout our church, who wish to help others around the world who find themselves in desperate need of assistance.  Over the past few months, South Sudan has been experiencing the world's worst current food crisis, which resulted from months of conflict.  So far, a full-scale famine has been avoided, thanks to the vast quantities of international aid, a better than

expected harvest due to good rainfall, and a decrease in violence believed to be because of the current wet season.  However, it is feared that the fighting will escalate once the wet season ends, deepening the on-going food crisis and possibly causing famine next year.”

For more information on the Appeal, including brief information on the response of PRDA, Christian Aid and Tearfund, go to www.pcimissionoverseas.org/news/847/

Give thanks for the generosity shown by so many in the Presbyterian Church in Ireland by their support of the ‘South Sudan Famine Appeal’.

Pray for an immediate ceasefire and lasting peace in South Sudan. Pray for the people of South Sudan, particularly for all those who are living in

daily fear of meeting with violence, having their homes destroyed or suffering death; and for those who are injured, displaced or grieving.

Pray for all in need of food aid, water and medical treatment.  Pray for all working to bring relief aid to those most in need.  KENYAThe Moderator, Rt Rev Dr Michael Barry, his wife Esther and their daughter Debbie, along with PW President Anna Morison, and Charlotte Stevenson (PW Communications and Development Officer) are continuing their visit to the Presbyterian Church of East Africa and PCI mission personnel serving in Kenya.  They are due home next Tuesday (18th).  Pray that the visit will be an encouragement to all they meet and that through

the visit our partnership with the PCEA and support of PCI personnel serving there will be strengthened.

Pray that the group will have a safe and trouble-free trip; that they will each remain in good health, and that travel (including internal travel) will go smoothly.  Pray especially for Anna Morison who was suffering from a bout a food poisoning at the weekend, but who is now feeling much better.

Stephen and Angelina Cowan send the following prayer requests from Tuum in northern Kenya:- Give thanks for the work Paul and Elizabeth Davis from Magheramason

Presbyterian Church have been doing in the nearby village of Wuaso Rongai for the past two weeks.  They will depart on 16th November to return to Ireland.  Give thanks too for the work Keith McCrossan (also from Magheramason) has been doing around Tuum.  A visit to Baragoi last Saturday to assist with a community clean-up event was encouraging to him, as he met some of the children who have attended youth camps in Tuum in the last four years, and who still remembered the memory verses taught at the camps.

Pray for the work Kasoni is involved in, and the impact the teaching will have on the children.

Page 10: …  · Web viewstarts at 7.30am in Wilson ... Pray for the Sola Grazia Church members to be filled with the Word of God and ... shoes and a knitted teddy bear to take

Pray for the finalising of plans for the team to lead the December youth camps, which may include the involvement of some graduate volunteers based in Baragoi.

Continue to pray for good maintenance of vehicles as roads are rough and sometimes dangerous.

 Naomi Leremore and colleagues have been working on a series of books for a Theological Education by Extension (TEE) course on children’s ministry. Give thanks that the first group of 34 students have completed TEE Book 1;

that Book 2 on Child Rights and Advocacy is now printed; and that Book 3 on Child Psychology is almost ready for printing.

Pray for the children sharing their stories and those gathering them for Book 4. Pray too for the TEE writer’s retreat (to take place later this month) as Naomi

and her colleagues discuss the content and deadlines for Books 5-8. Recently Gary and Mary Reid together with Maasai Action for Change (MAC) were able to provide disabled children from the community and their families a day out together, where the children were able to play with toys and even watch DVDs.  MAC provided the food and the Mission provided each of the children with new clothing, shoes and a knitted teddy bear to take home with them. Pray that God’s Holy Spirit will move in the hearts and lives of these precious

children and their families; that they will know God’s love and desire to know Him as their Saviour and friend.

Remember the children who are on the Maasai Seeds of Hope programme being supported through school, many of whom fled to the Mission seeking help to avoid early marriage, FGM (Female Genital Mutilation), child labour, abuse; or because they are orphans, fatherless or from very poor families.

MALAWILyn Dowds is seeking to expand the work of the David Gordon Memorial Hospital in Livingstonia.  The hospital currently needs a dentist, a second clinical officer in anaesthetics and nurses.  Lyn has been in discussion for a new Eye Ward and theatre, in order to make use of the experience of the Ophthalmology Clinical Officer in doing cataract and other surgical procedures. Pray for Lyn, as along with colleagues, she seeks to expand the work of the

hospital.  Pray for hospital staff who are studying and undertaking exams.  Pray for the ongoing challenges and the commitment needed to provide

healthcare in Malawi. Give thanks that Johnny and the children, along with Lyn’s parents (on a short

visit to Malawi), all arrived safely in Livingstonia after travelling from South Africa by car.

Sadly Lyn’s uncle (her mother’s brother) died on Monday (10th).  Please remember the family at this difficult time.

 INDIA

Page 11: …  · Web viewstarts at 7.30am in Wilson ... Pray for the Sola Grazia Church members to be filled with the Word of God and ... shoes and a knitted teddy bear to take

Rev John Faris (Minister of Trinity Cork and Aghada) and Linda Jackson (former PCI missionary in India) will be going on a short visit to India, departing Ireland this Friday 14th.  They will be attending the official opening of a renovated library and computer suite at the Gujarat United School of Theology in Ahmedabad.  Whilst in India, Linda will visit Woodstock School, Mussoorie where she served from 1996 to 2009. Give thanks for the renovated library and computer suite at the Gujarat

United School of Theology and pray that the many students who will use it in the years ahead will benefit greatly.

Pray that John and Linda will each have a safe and trouble-free trip. Christopher and Nivedita Benjamin are currently on home assignment in the Gujarat Diocese of the Church of North India, where they are visiting different congregations and sharing about their ministry in London. Pray for Christopher and Nivedita as they travel within Gujarat. Pray that their Home Assignment will bring encouragement to them and those

they meet.  NEPALUnited Mission to Nepal (UMN) report that the full hearing for the Stay Order over the property ownership which was scheduled to be heard on Monday (10th) at the Supreme Court, did not take place and was moved to the withhold list.  UMN requested a new hearing date and this is now scheduled for 16th March 2015.  Despite their disappointment, UMN staff trust in Gods perfect timing for this.

UMN is holding a Board meeting on 16th and 17th November.  Apart from their on-going oversight to the governance of UMN, the Board will also be carrying out a review of the next strategic plan. Pray for good discussion, insight and direction for the work of UMN. Pray for safe travel for UMN Board members travelling to and from the

meeting.  WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORSJohn Hamilton of Wycliffe Bible Translators has been thinking about the Ebola Outbreak feature in last week’s Prayerline!

He writes, “It’s a sad fact: minority language communities are often the last to receive important health information.  But, thanks to language development work undertaken by Wycliffe members, things are changing!

Clare Orr (Newtownbreda Presbyterian) and her colleague Elisabeth are literacy workers in Senegal, a country on the edge of the Ebola affected area in West Africa.  Their role is to help minority language communities learn how to use their written language.  This may be by teaching adults and children how to read and write, or by producing booklets on sustainable farming or important health information.”

Clare and Elisabeth write, “A lot of awareness raising about Ebola is going on across Senegal on the radio and TV.  However, many people in the villages don't speak enough French, Senegal's official language, or Wolof, the most widely-used

Page 12: …  · Web viewstarts at 7.30am in Wilson ... Pray for the Sola Grazia Church members to be filled with the Word of God and ... shoes and a knitted teddy bear to take

national language, to understand the message.  This is why we are trying to reach them through documents and information in their own languages.  Those who are able to read in their language can always read the information aloud for those who can't. Currently, there are no cases of Ebola in Senegal.

Awareness raising posters have been prepared and are being used in four minority languages - Manjaku, Bandial, Diola Fonyi and Gusilay. Please pray that this work will contribute to keeping Senegal Ebola free.
