GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENTI would first like to say that I am very excited to be the new HOA President of The Grove. As many of you know, Dale Stewart has decided to take another job opportunity and will no longer be working for Caliber. He did an excellent job overseeing the community over the past few years and will definitely be missed. I look forward to filling his shoes to the best of my abilities and working with all the residents of The Grove to help continue to make this a great place to live.
We are now less than a month away from opening the pool for the summer and I’m sure everyone is looking forward to that (please see page 2 for details). It’s amenities like this that have helped make The Grove a very popular place to live. Along with the recent addition of The Grove South, Phases 1 and 2, we are currently working on two more phases on the north side of the development. Phase 4 lots will be similar in size to Phase 2, and Phase 5 lots will be an even larger product, due to such high demand. We expect both phases to be ready the first part of next year.
If you should need anything please contact myself or Kimberly Swan at the email addresses below. Have a great summer!
Sincerely,
Jarod Tarver

UNCOVERING A HEALTHIER YOU
CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID JACkSON!BY: BETH SPERLING, THE GROVE’S BIGGEST LOSER COORDINATOR
David’s start weight was 199.8 lbs. He started this contest saying he would DEFINITELY be the winner! Sure enough, 6 weeks later, he had lost 15 lbs which was a 7.51% weight loss! He credits staying away from sugar and switching from sodas (diet and regular cokes) to water as how he was able to drop the pounds. He said he worked out as well but his diet was where he made the biggest changes.
He was very excited to join The Grove’s Biggest Loser because he was looking for that “little push” to get him going on this weight loss journey. The accountability of the weekly weigh-ins helped to keep him on track. There was one week where Golden Corral temporarily derailed his weight loss but instead of getting discouraged, he just brushed it off and started back fresh the next day. A positive attitude makes all the difference! We had 14 participants who paid $10 each, so not only did he lose weight, he also won $140!
The Grove’s Biggest Loser went from Feb 17th – Mar 30th and had weekly weigh-ins with incentives. Each week the participants pulled a “Refrigerator Motivator” out of a bowl. It was a little reminder to keep on their refrigerator to stay motivated and positive throughout the week. They even got “Sweet Tooth Satisfiers!” These were sugar free packs of gum that came in dessert flavors to satisfy sweet tooth cravings. We even had our own Facebook page with postings each week of recipes, cartoons and healthy tips to keep on track during the week.
Stephanie Nutter came in a VERY close 2nd place with a weight loss of 7.35%! DJ Sperling came in 3rd with a 4.35% weight loss. Awesome job! Everyone who participated did a great job! Let’s do it again next year!
We all know exercising and being healthy is good for us. Exercise prevents diseases, strengthens our bones and muscles, allows us to lose and/or maintain weight, plus we look and feel better when we’re doing it. So why is it so hard to follow through with taking
steps toward a healthier lifestyle? Lack of Convenience? Uncertainty about how to start? No motivation? Whatever your reason, I hope you will identify what’s holding you back and take steps toward your healthier future.
First, establish a clear, measurable goal. Putting in hard work is no fun if you don’t have a way of measuring your success. Do you want to lose weight? How much? By what date? Would you like to start walking or running? How often? How many miles or minutes a week? You get the idea. Getting up in the morning or skipping your
afternoon sofa will be a lot easier when you see that it’s clearly paying off!
Set yourself up for success. Once you’ve set your measurable goal, decide how you’re going to accomplish it. You aren’t accidentally going to lose 10 pounds or run 5 miles. Stock your fridge with lots of healthy options, get properly fitted for a great pair of running shoes, ask a family member or friend to keep you accountable or to even join you. Ask for help from a professional, weight loss group or even research on the internet to find out how you will accomplish your goals. You can’t control all your surroundings, but you can definitely create an environment conducive to a successful outcome.
Reward yourself. This is the fun part! You’re already rewarding yourself and those around you by becoming a more healthy you as you start living an increasingly active lifestyle. Give yourself some extra motivation by treating yourself when a goal is accomplished. (Make sure it’s not a treat that will wreck your diet!) Once you’ve lost weight and those old jeans no longer fit, get a new pair that make you feel great! Perhaps you simply treat yourself to some alone time at Barnes and Noble or sign up for your first 5k. Find out what drives you. Set your goals and get moving!

8 GROVER SPOTLIGHT & EVENT PICS
CHANGE FOR UGANDAMeet Emily Barton. As many of you know, she will be traveling to Uganda this summer. She applied for this trip in November of last year and has raised nearly all the funds needed.
This July 7th, she will leave for training at Global Expeditions in Garden Valley, Texas and will depart for Kampala, Uganda on July 9th. While in Kampala, her team will host assemblies and small groups at high schools which will be centered around abstinence. This is extremely important as the rates for HIV/AIDS have soared due to the fact that the citizens of Uganda are simply unaware.
Her team will then head to Gulu where they will live in a migrant camp. Joseph Kony has terrorized the people of Uganda for years. He has entered villages and killed off the older generation, then abducted the children to force them into his army. They are taught to kill or be killed. For safety, families have moved to camps closer to larger cities. In Gulu, Emily and her team will be spending time with these families and showing them the love of Jesus. They will put on skits and do crafts with children, many who are ex-child soldiers themselves. She will be returning back to Texas on August 2nd for debriefing.
Emily is only about $600 away from her goal and there are still many ways to get involved. She is selling Hope for Uganda bracelets, has Change Uganda with Change jars, and of course, will take donations. She is also planning a garage sale and an art class for the end of May and early July. If you are interested in being involved in your own missions trips, she encourages you to visit globalexpeditions.com. They have trips to every continent, including the US!
If you would like to donate to Emily’s trip, visit globalexpeditions.com and enter missionary code 2661003. You may also contact her at [email protected] or 405-240-6677.
