Cashless Tolling Informational Open House

What is cashless tolling? � Cash will no longer be accepted as payment

� Tolls are collected electronically via E-ZPass® or Video Tolling, as motorists keep moving beneath overhead gantries

� Technology already successfully used on the Intercounty Connector (ICC)/MD 200 in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties and the I-95 Express Toll Lanes (ETL) in Baltimore

Cashless tolling benefits � Customer Savings

� Lower toll rates for all E-ZPass Maryland customers

� Less idle time = better fuel efficiency and savings at the pump

� Less congestion, increased reliability, faster commute

� Safety � Increases safety by reducing crashes (National average shows about a 70% reduction in crashes in and around converted toll plazas)

� Environment � Decreases vehicle emissions

�Reduces particulate matter from braking


Ways to Pay � E-ZPass Account*

� E-ZPass Maryland customers receive discounts from 25% to 37.5% at most Maryland toll facilities

� Discount plans available, reducing tolls by up to 65% (two-axle)

�Transponders are free

�No monthly fee for Maryland residents

� Video Tolling � If you travel through a Maryland toll plaza without an E-ZPass, an image of the vehicle’s license plate will be taken

� A Notice of Toll Due will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle for the Video Toll due

� Due to higher processing costs, the video toll rate is 50% higher than the current cash/base rate with a minimum of $1 and a maximum of $15 above the base rates

Key Bridge Project � Construct new gantries between toll plaza and Key Bridge

� Reconfigure I-695 travel lanes within the toll plaza area and reconstruct existing pavement to accommodate cashless tolling

� Demolish existing toll plaza infrastructure

� Upgrade signage and lighting

� Add truck inspection areas

� Supports virtual weigh stations (recently installed)

� Reconfigure US 40 travel lanes within the toll plaza area and reconstruct existing pavement

� Integrate proposed roadway into existing commercial vehicle inspection areas, including partial reconstruction
