and the kingdom of Israel [God’s chosen people] into Baal and grove worship. 8

Elijah made his prophetic statement of ‘No rain’ to Ahab and then went to hide,

as God commanded, at the brook Cherith. 엘리야는 아합에게 비가 오지

Demon, and demons are not found as '‘words'’in the KJV. Unclean spirits (daemons) are. So, to say idols are

images where demons are worshipped is correct.

I believe that groves, or Aserath poles, are also known as ‘totem poles’ to some.

Ravens air delivered him with bread and flesh twice a day. Then the brook dried

up! Elijah soon got new marching orders. 까마귀가 하루에 두 번 빵과

고기를 그에게 배달해 주었습니다. 그리고 시내가 말라버렸습니다!

Elijah went northwest to Zarephath and dwelt with a widow (he lived in a loft

above the house); We pick up the account, from where we were in the last

sermon; by starting at: 엘리야는 사르밧을 향해 북서쪽으로 가서 과부의

The Scripture:

1 Kings 17:8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

9 If God has not been speaking to your heart for awhile; Examine yourselves.’

- 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know

ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

5너희가 믿음 안에 있는지 너희 자신을 살펴보고 너희 자신을 입증하라. 예수 그리스도께서

9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which [belongeth] to Zidon, and dwell there:

behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

Go to Zarephath. 사르밧으로 가라

Zarephath is near the coast just above Sidon (that is the country of Lebanon

today). 사르밧은 시돈 바로 위 바닷가 근처에 있습니다 (지금은 레바논

Zarephath is ‘outside’ [of the box] of the northern kingdom of Israel. 11

11 Sometimes in a local church, things need to get done; but someone says … ‘Well, I just don’t want to do that’.

[They are qualified, and able; but, they just won’t do it.] That is a very poor attitude. We need to be ready to

accept higher responsibility, as given by the Lord. We will all give account of ourselves to the Lord one day.

Or, they may say … ‘Well, I am not comfortable doing that’. [so; Was the Lord Jesus comfortable, upon the

cross?]

- I encourage you to ‘Quit making excuses’. [How did God deal with Moses when he was making

excuses? [Read Exodus Chapter 4]].

Dwell there. 거기에 거하라

IIBC Training Tip #6 – Be Ready.

Proverbs 27:23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

- Behave yourself wisely.

- Learn by volunteering.

- Learn by using initiative.

- Learn by doing (that includes training others).

IIBC Training Tip #9 – God Is STILL Passing Out Big Jobs.

Proverbs 27:23 Be thou diligent to

Always be ready to study, train for, and to accept more responsibility in local church ministry.

- Adam: Name all the animals.

- Noah: Build the Ark.

- Moses: Tell Pharaoh to Let ‘My people’ Go.

- David: Behave wisely, wait on God, United the Kingdom after defeating several enemies.

Zarephath is also called Sarepta, in Luke 4:26.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly

dividing the word of truth.

3) Be ready always to give an answer [Preaching, teaching, devotion, testimony, a word for the

Lord.].



o It has not rained in Israel since Elijah spoke to King Ahab.

엘리야가 아합 왕에게 말한 이후로 이스라엘에 비가 내리지

God has a reason for everything. 하나님께서는 모든 일에

- Everything. 모든 일

o I am going to repeat; God has a reason for everything He does.

- I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

내가 그곳의 과부 여인에게 명령하여 너를 돌보게 하였느니라

God is ‘way ahead’ of Elijah. 하나님께서는 엘리야 보다 훨씬 앞에

계십니다.

God is already moving ahead of Elijah. 12

하나님께서는 이미 엘리야

God is preparing the way ahead for Elijah. 하나님께서 엘리야

보다 먼저 준비하고 계십니다.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the

city, behold, the widow woman [was] there gathering of sticks: and he called

to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may

drink.

10이에 그가 일어나 사르밧으로 가서 도시의 문에 이를 때에, 보라, 그

과부 여인이 거기서 나뭇가지를 주우므로 그가 그녀를 불러 이르되,

원하건대 그릇에 물을 조금 가져다가 내가 마시게 하라, 하니라. 13

Note also, God reserves the right to move his man anywhere, anytime. He told Elijah ‘Arise and go to

Zarephath’. Don’t get too comfortable where you are at.

So he arose. 그래서 그는 일어났습니다.

Elijah has learned to obey God. 14

The distance from the Brook Cherith to Zarephath was ~ 120 miles (as the

eagle flies). 15

- So, I am going to guess that it took Elijah around a week of walking to

get there. 16

The terrain on the journey was mountainous, which made it even a longer

journey [up this hill and down another]. 그곳까지 가는 길은 산이 많아,

Did God ask Elijah if he wanted to go to Zarephath? [No]. 하나님께서

엘리야에게 사르밧으로 가기 원하느냐고 물으셨습니까? (아니요)

You know; God has a reason for everything that He asks us to do.

하나님께서는 우리에게 하라고 하시는 모든 일에, 이유를 가지고

계십니다.

Did Elijah have a map?

We don’t know; but if he didn’t, we could say “He was operating off the map!”

Was Elijah ‘out of his comfort zone? Walking by faith will probably take you ‘out of your comfort zone’ and

perhaps ‘off the map’ [of what you know].

There is great blessing in obeying the Word of God.

I highly recommend that you don’t tell God No. 하나님께 아니요 라고

말하지 않기를 강력히 권합니다.

I recommend that you don’t tell God, “Well; I am not going to do

that”. 그거 하지 않을거예요 라고 하나님께 말하지 않는 것이

좋습니다.

I recommend that you don’t tell God, “I am just not comfortable

doing what you called me to do.” 제게 하라고 하신 것 하고싶지

않아요 라고 하나님께 말하지 마시기 바랍니다.

I recommend that you don’t make excuses to God.

하나님께 변명을 하지 마시기를 권합니다.

God has a unique sense of humor. 하나님께서는 독특한 유머감각을

가지고 계십니다.

Do you remember the true story of the prophet Jonah? 대언자 요나의

이야기를 기억하십니까?

Here is my outline for Jonah Chapter 1: 요나서 1장을 간추려 보면:

God said ‘Go’. 하나님께서 가라 말씀하셨습니다.

Jonah said No. 요나는 아니요 라고 말했습니다.

The Whale swam low. 고래가 낮은 곳으로 헤엄쳐 왔습니다.

Be careful what you tell God! 17

하나님께 말할 때 조심하십시오!

If God has tasked you with a specific job or duty; don’t sub-let the job to

someone else [unless God tells you to.]. 18

만일 하나님께서는 당신에게

구체적인 할 일을 주셨다면, 그 일을 다른 사람에게 다시 맡기지

마십시오. (하나님께서 그렇게 말씀하지 않으셨다면)

Be careful what excuse you tell God! 하나님께 하는 변명을

If it your responsibility to do something; then you do it.

I have heard some Christians at IIBC use that word. [I won’t name them.]

If God has given you a job to do – then you Do it.

하나님께서 당신에게 할 일을 주셨다면, 당신이 그 일을 하십시오.

Quit making excuses; whatever they are, just do what God tells you to do. 20

변명을 그만 두십시오; 그 일이 무엇이든, 하나님께서 당신에게

하라고 하신 일을 하십시오.

God remembers our promises to Him. 하나님께서 우리가 그분께

Food for thought: There may have been a time at IIBC when you could ‘rest on

your lees’, and let the missionary do most of the preaching, teaching, and heavy

lifting and show up 5 minutes before the service and think that you were doing

your part.

Arise and go to Zarephath. You need to plan on developing the men that God has given you. That is the Biblical

model. Research what the Apostle Paul did when he visited assemblies of believers in various locations. Who

did he ordain? [Elders (the most spiritually mature men): Acts 14:23, 16:24]. What did the elders do? [Preach,

While the drought took effect in Israel God sustained Elijah through His people

If you are not saved, we would love to take a Bible and show you how

you can know for sure that you are saved.

2. Have you been baptized by immersion, since salvation, in a church of

like faith and practice?

If you are saved and have not yet been baptized by immersion, I would

like you to let Pastor Tchah know that this morning.

The Lord Jesus was baptized by immersion by John The Baptist.

The Disciples and Apostles were baptized by Immersion.

The Lord Jesus commanded his disciples to preach and teach the Gospel,

baptizing those who got saved. 39

Baptism therefore, is a command to be obeyed.

There is nothing to be nervous about. We are family and friends here.

3. Are you ready to meet God?

a. We all should be ready to pray, to give testimony about the Lord,

or to pass away.

b. Is there any bitterness on your heart?

c. Is there any sin that you need to confess to God, silently, as you

pray?

If you need to come to the altar to pray, the invitation is open to you.

ARE YOU SAVED?

This is the question of the ages. Men were created to worship their Creator. You

can know for 100% sure that you are saved. To understand this you’ll need to

get out your Bible and look at a few verses.

1. All men are sinners. Read Romans 3:10

A s it is written, There is none righteous, no not one: and Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

- Are you a sinner?

2. There is a penalty for sin. Read Romans 5:12

Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and

so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned.

and Romans 6:23.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through

Jesus Christ our Lord.

- Has death passed upon you?

- What wage do you earn for your sin?

3. Jesus paid the penalty for your sin on the cross of Calvary and offers you

eternal life as a free gift. Read Romans 6:23 (above) again:

- What is the gift of God? Who gives this gift?

- Can a gift be bought? Can a gift be earned?

- If you rejected this free gift; would it

still be a gift?

4. How did God demonstrate His love for us? Read Romans 5:8.

But God commendeth His love towards us in that we were yet sinners,

Christ died for us.

- Did Christ die personally for you? Did Jesus

suffer on the cross?

-- Why did he suffer so

horribly?

- Is there an empty grave outside Jerusalem?

- Where is the body of Jesus?



-If Jesus was dead in a tomb, wouldn't the Jewish

leaders have dug Him up and shown the disciples

the evidence of his corpse?

5. How can you be born again? Read Romans 10: 9 – 10 That if thou shalt

confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that

God hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved. For with the heart

man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made

unto salvation.

and Romans 10:13

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

- Are you a whosoever? Have you ever called upon the

name of the Lord in prayer?

— Prayer is simply you

talking to God.

- If you have never yet asked the Lord to save you,

why not pray the sinners prayer now?

Dear Lord have mercy on me. I know I am a sinner. I know you died on

Calvary's cross for me. I accept you now as my personal Lord and Savior.

Please forgive me of all my past sins, all my present sins, and all my future
