• Aim– demonstrate how an urban community can be retrofitted cost‐

effectively to become zero carbon and inform the Green Dealeffectively to become zero carbon and inform the Green Deal

• Area‐based appoach– look at the different solutions needed for the combinations of 

building types and tenures present in this community

• Why Hackbridge?– Representative of many urban areas that will need to be 

retrofitted if we want to achieve our national objectives of 80% CO2 reduction by 2050;y 5 ;

– near London so can become a showcase and close to BedZED so we can have people to visit it
