What’s the difference?
HMCPHigh Interrupting
Motor Circuit Protector
MPCBMotor Protection
Circuit Breaker
• The HMCP is designed to provide short circuit (magnetic)
protection and a disconnect for a motor circuit. It is
designed to be used with a contactor (to start/stop the motor)
and an overload relay (to protect from over current)
• The MPCB is designed to provide short circuit (magnetic)
protection, a disconnect and OVERLOAD RELAY
protection all in one device.
• Series C
GMCP Frame (3-63A)
HMCP Frames (3-1200A)
• Series G
HMCPE Frames (3-100A)
HMCPJ Frame (250A)
HMCPL Frame (600A)
• FDMP Frame (40-205A)
• JGMP Frame (50-250A)
• LGMP Frame (250-600A)
Short Circuit Current Ratings with Eaton Motor Starters
• Combination Ratings up to 100KA (with Freedom Series)
• High Fault Ratings up to 65KA (with XT Series)
• High Fault Ratings up to 65KA(with XT Contactors)
Standards and Certifications
• UL 489 Recognized device that requires further listing with
a specific contactor and overload relay for proper
application. (UL Listed with Eaton Motor Starters)
• CSA C22.2 No. 5.1
• IEC 157-7
• UL 489 Listed Circuit Breaker that can be used with any
controller without further testing or listings.
• CSA C22.2 No. 14
• IEC 60947-2, 60947-4

• Adjustable Trip Settings ( in multiples of the continuous
current rating) allows for customized motor protection
• Maximum Setting of 13X FLA
• Used with Starters Size 0-8
• Transient inrush trip suppression to sustain high inrush on
very first cycle (included on units used with starters up to
size 4)
• Eliminates the need for an overload relay which reduces
panel size and heat generation
• Selectable Trip Class:
FD Frame – Class 5, 10, 20, 30
JG/LG Frames – Class 10, 15, 20, 30
• Phase Unbalance and Phase Loss Protection
• Field Installable Accessories (JG, LG Frames)
• High Load Alarm Status Indicator (JG, LG)
• Pre-detection Relay (opens contactor instead of breaker on JG, LG)
